  • She was never my favorite skater, but still I was really hoping she would win this title because she was such a strong competitor. I still to this day cannot believe she fell on the 3loop- her best jump.

  • 滑り終わった時の「やっちゃった・・・。」って顔が印象深い。

  • the queens of the 90's and 00's will always remains michelle kwan and irina slutskaya because they competed so many years and not like the gold winners which are really forgotten right now lipinski, hughes and arakawa

  • @gonzo77ffm No one has forgotten Shizuka Arakawa.....

  • @dstorey11 you're right within time i love her too but the other ones not

  • @gonzo77ffm It's your right to speak highly of Kwan and Slutskaya. But you SHOULD NOT do that by trashing other skaters! Anyway, lipinski, hughes and arakawa are all Olympic champions but ironically your idols are not.

  • @fjn219 how is he trashing when he's perfectly right? actually shizuka is revered in japan, however tara and sarah are both distant memories and never had many fans. when skating fans list the top skaters of all time, they are never included

  • @callasalive Tara and sarah are "distant" memories of FAKE fans like you.

  • @fjn219 actually MOST skating fans from most forums would agree. michelle and irina's legacies, despite not winning olympic gold >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> sarah and tara. especially sarah who just had ONE good night

  • pelicanus11@now who's the #1 in Figure skating asianwomen now where is the US and european women now.. asian people are not idiot like you moron we are smarter than you...

  • @pelicanus11

    just like your mom :)

  • Sloppy. I love her personality and her performance at the 2005 worlds was amazing, but goodness, this was not a good program :(

  • God "getrealandpeeonme", Kwan wasn't even skating here, STFU!

  • I'm more of Shizuka's fan but honestly... I've seen Irina's performance before where her artistry is way superb than Shizuka or Sasha (particularly her SP in 1998 Nagano Olympics)... I don't know what's wrong with her here but if she had that grace I believe she can win the gold despite the fall just like how Kristi beat Midori in Albertville Olympics 1992 despite falling. I guess she's just can't bear the pressure of winning due to being the reigning world champ entering this olympic games.

  • Such a disappointment, I cried when Irina doubled the flip, I just knew. Then the triple loop fall killed me. She knew it was over. Honestly, I knew she was out after the triple lutz. She was just way too nervous.

  • She's a FAST spinner and a HIGH jumper...which is extraordinary. But she just lacks smooth, graceful, flowy figure skating. If Sasha Cohen hadn't fallen, she'd be (in my opinion of course) far better than Irina and Shizuka, who did a boring, repetitive, super-safe program.

  • she looks draggy in this performance of course she had been skating for 12 or 13 years i still miss her

  • Sasha deserved to win silver, how could this chick get in the olympics(irina)? I mean theres no gracefulness in her program:/

  • Wow...I luv Irina so much & have enjoyed her skating for so many years.....just wasn't her nite....but she'll always be 1 of my favourites!!!! xox

  • It's a pity that Kwan and Slutskaya, the most dominant skaters from 1998-2006, never won Olympic gold. Kwan lost in 1998 to the skate order, Slutskaya in 2002 to poor judging. Everyone will remember this period for Michelle and Irina, not for Tara/Sarah/Shizuka (though Shizuka was a terrific skater in her own right and won in Torino with no controversy). It was still amazing that Irina came back to win the 2005 World Championship and Torino bronze, despite her life-threatening illness.

  • @dc19921000 Kwan LOST because she was inferior...God knows the judges did everything they could to prop her up and favor her...and how many times has Mediocre Michelle skated 1st and racked up 6.0s...she herself said the skating order didn't matter...OMG....5.9s across the board as pre determined by the judges and she still couldn't cut it...Irina had NO breaks from the judges ever and has more European titles and medals which get lost in the Kwandrama and Bragging. Irina is a TRUE champion!

  • @getrealandsee You clearly don't know anything about skating. Name one world title Kwan didn't deserve. The one exception might be 1996, when her and Lulu were more or less a toss-up. Irina has NO breaks from the judges? 2002 Grand Prix Final, hello? You clearly need to 'get real and see'. So what if Kwan said the judging order doesn't matter? In this situation, it did. Stop whining about Kwandrama and fix your own drama and hate issues.

  • @dc19921000 I stand by what I said:)-) Have you suggested to the owner of this video that I be blocked? Just curious...blocking opposing view points is a good way to deal with what you can't handle...I do not HATE anyone....situations...actions...but people? Nope! What does Boom Roasted mean? You really are defending Kwan on every level possible aren't you...even what she herself says doesn't matter...

  • @getrealandsee Nope, I'm not defending Kwan. For instance, I also didn't she deserved 1st in the SLC short program. But she won all her world titles pretty objectively, any figure skating expert will so.

  • @dc19921000 I stand corrected:)-:) As for all the 'world titles' ...pretty objectively is the right way to put it....she skated against a sub par field (except for 1996 where she really skated beautifully and it was a close call)...she really won by default but even at that some were just given to her...they don't matter in the long range scheme of things anyway...

  • @dc19921000 But...as far as saying that Kwan lost because of the skating order??? She lost because Tara blasted the sequins off of her and in doing so Tara transformed a sport...Kwan had her neck bent to receive the Gold....her speech prepared and you can bet that she would have left figure skating in a nanosecond had Tara not overcome phenomenal odds to put Kwan on the second step of that podium. Remember, Sarah was the 1st of the Americans in SLC and she too blew everyone away.

  • @getrealandsee Sarah won the OGM because Michelle and Irina made mistakes. There is NO WAY that Sarah would have beaten Michelle and Irina if they skated like they did at Worlds that same year. LOL! A "nanosecond"? How silly. Kwan landed 7 triples and had a beautiful and program. She just wasn't at her masterful best like she was at Nationals that year (she would have won). Remember the 1994 Olympics? Oksana only landed THREE CLEAN TRIPLES WITH ZERO COMBOS. ...

  • @getrealandsee She was propped up and gifted the gold. Michelle Kwan was NEVER propped up like that at world level. Kwan skated against a sub par field at Worlds? Irina and Maria were good skaters. Won by default? Yes, judges tried everything to give Irina the title in 2000-2001 (giving Kwan 5.6s for landing 7 triples with a triple-triple was a joke). Kwan deserved her wins in '96, '98, 2000-2001 and 2003.

  • @getrealandsee Winning Worlds doesn't matter? I am sure that Sasha and others would have loved to win a World title... The Olympics are nothing but another Worlds that come every four years (I wish Kwan thought this way). When you call Kwan a "loser" for not winning OGM you're calling every great figure skater a loser that didn't win it....

  • @Karosanyo And they would have if not for the blatant favortism of the Kwan. Skating during that era doomed figure skating to less of a sport than a comedy show..betting on how high the Kwan's scores could get...no, not every skater who doesn't win OG is a loser but Kwan sure is.

  • @getrealandsee LOL! You're calling Kwan a "loser" again? Projection.... Elaborate how Kwan is a "loser" and other skaters that didn't win the OGM are not. Kwan's scores were always high at Worlds???? What a half-assed and dishonest statement! Kwan was NEVER overmarked at Worlds. Even the commentators stated that her scores in 2000-2001 were too low for landing 7 triples with a 3/3 (even the Brits said that her scores were too low in 2004!). I also think that she should have won in 2002.

  • いつ見ても素晴らしい!!!!♪( ´▽`)

  • Ok silver, but NO BRONSE!!! stupid judges...(((((

  • continue...and i do know there is more to the technical side then just the jumps. But we all know that is where you get most of the points....I am still not sure who deserved the silver, Sasha or Irina...?

  • Interesting...her PC score was only 1 point lower then Sasha's score. And Sasha's score was about 1 point higher in the Techn side, too. there is not doubt that Irina's jumps were better-- and more of them, also much cleaner compared to Sasha's. Sasha's landings were practically all somewhat unstable...I think Irina's biggest problem was that music, terrible music. It didnt allow her to show much artistry or grace, because she does have some. .But there was no doubt Arakawa won.

  • @yorishiku2525

i agree with you, absolutely true

  • whats the background song? anyone plz? ;D

  • The only thing sadder than her winning the bronze with this performance, was that she won the silver @SLC with a far more boring and timid skate. Barring that fall, she was quick on the ice, seemed to actually be happy to be there. Grace issues aside, I do like her style.

  • Oh wait. I found something.

    About Michelle Kwan:

    Dates: July 7, 1980 -

Known for: Olympic performances that fell short of the expected gold medals

By Jone Johnson Lewis, About.com Guide

  • her beillman is ugly and not even to a full stretch. why does she do so many of them??

  • @gollymolly123 she was I think the first to do it with both legs...Its almost her signature thing...And it wasnt bad at that time...I think only Sasha's was better...(and even hers was not fully streched)...I've seen prettier biellman's but its far from ugly...

  • Irina, good athleticism and admirable perseverence. Mediocre at best in artistry. Her performances never sparked an emotion in me. I always felt judges were way too nice to her.

  • @caltex0308 Well, if anyone benefited from the judges' kindness and outright pity it wasn't Irina, it was Michelle Kwan. Irina skated her way into this Olympics, didn't screw anyone, whereas Michelle used a pen and then after milking the competition for all she could went off to skate with a mouse and then got some sort of funky title. Kwan..that's the one who had it all handed to her except for Olympic Gold and even at that the judges TRIED! Guess being CA in CA pays big time:):)

  • I have to admit, the actual moves she did was perfect. Graceful? No. Where's the emotion? I couldn't find a smile on her face once throughout this performance. It looked like she was forced to do this, like it was her job.

  • @seaturttlee She isn't known for being graceful but she is so strong and athletic. I love her smile at the end of the program. I did read something along the lines of what you are saying...that she skates because she has to skate. Her mother was ill and the money helped. Artistic or not I love this skater..she holds records and titles in Europe and skated even with a debilitating disease. Now she is a mother and wife and has a skating career behind her that she can view with great pride. IMHO

  • Irina Slutskaya ステキすぎ!この曲も個人的には好きですけど・・・。

  • technically, this program is very, very good. You can't deny she can skate and her jumps are wonderful. But she isn't quite as pretty a skater to watch artistically as Sasha Cohen in the least. and that spiral sequence was atrocious.

  • What the fuck is that 3:32.

Seems like a blatantly insulting version of Sasha's free leg position.

  • @mariahfan444 I think it's called the Pissing Dog. That's what it looks like, anyway. It's awful.

  • Irina has amazing technical skill.

  • Comment removed

  • @acuison1 Besides, didn't think that the performance of one of the world's prominent skaters could be an opportunity to express political bluntness.

  • Major choke

  • 7:54 is that yuka sato on the far right??

  • 7:57 Is that yuka sato on the far right??

  • 7:59 isthat Yuka Sato on the far right?? She looks great!

  • OMG. she is my idol!! i have all 3 songs on my i pod!!! LOVE the last song!!!!!!! that's my dream skating song! :)))

  • she is wonderful and she deserved the olympic gold , but she fell....!

The best two skaters of the last 15 years kwan and slutskaya never get their deserved golds at the olympics

  • 興ざめ

  • This was better than I remembered it. I agree she would have won had she not fallen. She had a few other mistakes, but Shizuka did, too.

  • おしかったな・・・。

    この人のベストの演技ってきっとすばらしいと思う。

    ミスはあったけどそう思えました。

  • Волнение просто зашкаливаетт!!!!Но я ее очень люблю!!!

  • What music?

  • @loDEmix Music is "Mario takes a walk" by Jesse Cook

  • Irina Slut-skaya, the star of people from russian's gulag

  • To deusexmachina85: are you really an idiot or just pretending to be one?

  • @Desideria7

    he's probably both....

  • @salcazoid hey loser!!!Don't pretend to be Korean!!

    I cannot help laughing!

don't use google translation!! it's strange grammar lol!

  • What the hell was that final spin at 5:22 ? She looked like my 4 year old niece on ice!!!

  • Sasha Cohen's artistry is unbeatable. Compared to this, she's as lovely as a ballerina. Sure tricks are great to put out on the ice, but shouldn't it look pretty?

    (Yes)

  • She's the best!

  • I really really loved this program - so strong. If only she didn't fall...... :( I was so sad.

  • Of course Sasha was better!!, her Romeo and Juliet program is so touching, perfect music for her!

  • Ira is the best of the best! if she hadn't done that mistake she would have won.. irina must be FIRST in salt lake 2002, but was judged unfairly by stupid americans referees...and sasha cohen, shizuka never been such talanted as SLUTSKAYA!!

  • @Hail2TheVictorsBaby I totally agree! Irina's skating's so clumsy and sloppy...she's ungraceful and horrible to watch. She was known for her big jumps, but apart from their height, they look shaky and ugly. I'm glad she got the bronze.

  • @cheburashka19

yah, sorry, but our russian girls never shined in skating, and she's no exception. only pairs always got gold. and she has a big butt anyways! i don't think my coach would even take me if my ass was that big!

  • @xxxMelodyOfDawnxxx haha totally. I don't know, she was ok in 2002, but in 2006, she was just terrible. That's true, about Russian girls, but now you have little stars like Polina Agafonova, who's a delight to watch. Hope she gets better and better....oh and Makarova's skating's nice too! but I dislike Leonova; she's so ungraceful....eww. So you're Russian, right? :)

  • @cheburashka19

haha! Makarova is my mom's last name!

i've been in US for about 5 years now. ya, i'm russian, and i figure skate too. =)

  • @xxxMelodyOfDawnxxx wow really?! Well she (Makarova the skater =)) did really well last season, hope she gets even better. Great! So you work or study there in the US?

Yay! I'm a figure skater too^.^ Nice to meet you, Melody!

  • @cheburashka19

yeah, i've seen her maybe once, but not much really. i live here with my family. and, my name is Darya =P haha!

  • @xxxMelodyOfDawnxxx Oh hello Darya! Do you like living in the States?

  • @cheburashka19

yeah, it's great, but i get homesick sometimes, cuz my grandparents and some very good friends are there, and i miss them. =(. oh well, i'll go back when i can =). where do you live?

  • @xxxMelodyOfDawnxxx I understand, sometimes it's really hard to be away from home....=( I live in Japan, and I'm half French and half Japanese. What's your Russian hometown? =)

  • @cheburashka19

Petropavlovsk Kamchatskiy, it's right across alaska

  • @xxxMelodyOfDawnxxx She has a woman's figure. If you look at her waist and arms, she's really quite slender.

Sorry if we can't all look like twelve-year-old boys.

  • @IslesGirl14

no, she just has a big ass -_-' and no artistry in her skating whatsoever....

  • @xxxMelodyOfDawnxxx That I can agree with- she's very sloppy. Not graceful at all.

  • @IslesGirl14

yea, which is very unfortunate, because she has incredible jumps.

  • @cheburashka19 She has the artistry of a wombat.

  • @bygbear1: irina jumps in this program were very tentative. the fall at the end was the final nail in the coffin.

  • This was a good program for Irina and a pretty dress too.

I don't think she was attempting any 3-3 combinations, so I think if she did everything so would have 6 triples (and who knows how many with a double on the end).

However, it was a little off from the start because she NEVER plans to do just a 3 lutz to start a program.

It was high, but no combination.

The second lutz was just as high, but a little shakey on the landing.

Still, if she did all 6 triples she could have won.

  • Irina had every opportunity for the gold medal. Sasha made a mistake and Shizuka isn't as technical as Irina is.

  • @safehaven11 That is very true. Shizuka wasn't really a technical skater as both Irina and Michelle were. Shizuka was really an artistic skater, but she was poorly trained so consistency was an issue with her. Sasha was well trained but has consistency issues. Naomi was also well trained but she had serious hip injuries.

  • @waddleduckie1 Michelle who???

  • In my opinion de podium: Arakawa, Suguri, Slutskaya

  • Put an NHL player in a dress and this is what you get.

  • Now that's pretty funny!

  • @krtina455 haha, i couldn't have put it better myself.

  • @krtina455 If you have such a beautiful body, maybe you should step on the rink and do the same?

  • @krtina455 don't be mean, can you pull that off? geez.....

  • Irina should have been 2nd place. She only fell once, and Sasha had 2 major jump mistakes, and was not impressive. I feel like, she should have placed ahead of Sasha, and it should have been an Arakawa, Slutskaya, Cohen podium 1-3 in that order.

  • but she also doubled her second flip and some of her landings were scratchy. Not to mention the lack of choreography and positions. She even opted for the easy entrance to the double axel. That this placed ahead of Fumie is insane.

  • not insane but rather simple. it placed ahead of Fumie because of the overall scores. Irina was practically tied for 1st with Sasha on the short program (Irina: 66.70, Sasha: 66.73) which are extremely high scores. Fumie was 5 points behind Irina going into the long. Irina made mistakes but did enough to stay in 3rd place which she deserved.

  • But why was Fumiw so far behind after the SP? She landed the same jumps as Irina and Sasha. I thought Fumie's program was very well presented.

  • Comment removed

  • Irina only landed 4 clean triples, while Sasha landed 5. Irina was also extremely slow and in my opinion sloppy, while Cohen was inspirational for coming back like that after 2 major mistakes. That's why Sasha won the silver, there should be no argument.

  • Ей необязательно носить на шее золото, чтобы быть первой!

    Лучшая!

  • Ох, как мы тогда за Ирку болели))) никогда не забуду. И для нас она все равно всегда первая!!!

  • I do think she deserved second place too.

  • Sasha deserved the silver medal. Irina doesn't have the artistry or fluidity of Sasha.

  • bucephalus2008: and since when do u decide the rules? this is a sport that has 2 equally weighted parts the artistry (in which Ira had improved a lot, and also the perception of artistry under the CoP is different) and the technique (in which Sasha can't touch Ira)

its extremelly rude and certainly retarded to come to a skaters video to talk about ur personal favorite and compare it to make urs look "good" and what is even worst to act as is u had invented the sport. darling u didn't invent it

  • а ведь Ирина Самая лучшая была!

  • как вы думаете?? Почему одним спортсмена отдают золото с падением, даже не с одним (я имею ввиду последний чемпионат мира), а Ирине не отдали??

  • GREAT!

  • i think, she would be 2nd

  • She didn't have the artistry for a silver.
