Hai guys I know this isn't CRX related, but I got a 92 Acura Integra GS, non-VTEC so I wanted to compensate for that. What's some good starter parts I can add on. Honda pros only. Oh and no Ricers ok. I'm sick of hearing "Yo D4WG adding an NX sticker to yo civic adds 270hp!"
@GarrettKeetley get a decent cold air intake and an exhaust that doesnt sound like a fart can and they sound beautiful. Tanabe makes an exhaust for Honda that has been tested to put out no more than 93 decibels, for a high performance exhaust with no catalytic converter, thats pretty damn quiet.
Save the SOHC's man! SOHC's are obviously way cheaper to buy and you can build one pretty cheap. Everyone is going DOHC these days, so like me, I went with a SOHC. I put a d16y8 with pretty low miles in my 95' civic Hatch.
funny thing about this video .. is that even tho it can handle going up close to 9k rpms.. the horsepower dropped off around 8k rpms .. so that extra 1k rpm is worthless .. put it on a dyno and see how much power you have at 9k rpms i bet its little to none.. but whatever lol.
@Aceman196 You are incorrect. Yes, maybe after 7500rpm the powerband isn't what is was, but it's the gearing that dictates when to shift. You must ride out the gear so you can shift in the middle of the powerband. Shift early into below the powerband is actually slower.
@Aceman196 This may be true, but after you grab the next gear, it puts you right into the prime part of the power band. Most stock honda vtec engines have a very small powerband (powerful for a 4 banger but a small RPM range), getting each gear to fall on the perfect RPM makes quite a difference. Obviously this can be altered by modifications but for the most part riding a gear out will improve your next gear acceleration.
@Aceman196 in ee9 it's right at 7400-7600 rpm, so about 2k after v-tec, but still, it's not really good to shift at ~9000... isn't the limiter at 8500?
@anaestheticdub Stock it is but you can chip the ecu, upgrade valve springs,by aftermarket ecus, vtec controllers, vtec can kick in at 2k anything can be done, and theirs still power to redline
How are Honda inline engines rare? You could get a running one off Craigslist for like 200 bucks dude! And these mofos will do 9grand all day... Mashing the engine into redline is partly what makes the Honda I4's sound so lovely.
Here they are rare, because all you could get are in bad condition,if the paint from the valve cap is allredy splintered its not in realy good condition and wont have his full power.
I bought my CRX from an old woman(maybe 55) and the engine looks like new and it sure still has it 124hp.
wtf are you smoking? VTEC engages at 4900RPM stock on a d16z6 engine. the redline on that particular engine is STOCK 7200 RPM. i dont know what you mean by "it engages past redline" but its wrong.
why always the discussion about japanese and american cars? that are two different types..american cars: power with help of diplacement..japanese cars: power through revs or turbo..so close your mouth haters..
Torque is for Semi Trucks and cars that weigh two metric tons. You don't need a big engine with lot's of torque in a small light car. Just a 8-9k redline.
i have the same car and unless you gauge is switched it only goes up tp 8000rpm in wich case you only went up to 7.5k wich obveously is more than stock (6.5k) but still not 9k....
btw I, like most others like hondas over american cars simply do to the versatility and budget compared to american muscle cars plus i find no fun in the fact that if you own a good muscle car and know how to tune it you beat every one... atleast in jap cars theres huge competition
This is the SiR CRX. The CRX Si redlines at 6500, and rev limits are 7200 (what you're talking about).
The SiR redlines at 8200, and rev limits at 8500 or something close. Different motor, not a different cluster. This car uses the B16A motor, while you car has the D16A6.
How about you don't question some peoples stupidity by one comment. Plus how do you know it is a 1.6??? could be a 1.8... and good comparison to an american engine... do you realize your the idiot? Plus I would rather have the tq curve of a american engine over the entire rpm range then the tiny hp curve of a high revving 1.6L B16a
