  • As a person who studies shoe repair, I disagree when Wren says that Shoe repair is the barometer of the economy. If this was the case, Why would the shop have closed down during this recession? No... I think it is something else.

    Many repairmen have told me that recessions mean the rich repair and the middle class start buying wal-mart shoes. They even out. If any increase does occur, it occurs because the media so heavily reports on the repair during recessions.

  • @Heropsychodream Been in the Biz for 25 years. I've allway's worked on cheap shoes. A good cobbler works on everything.

  • George's comment about gauging the economy by looking at how much shoe repair is on the shelves is spot on.
