  • Ray Davies is a superb song writer... So underrated.

  • A pity this isn't a true live version from this era. But it's great theatre, and such a brilliant song.

  • This is so excellent. It's obvious that they are having so much fun. Ray has a lovely bouffant hairdo and Dave is sporting crazy whiskers. Good to see they take their music seriously, but not themselves.

  • I do like The Kinks more then The Beatles. But in the end all of the British Invasion bands have their own "quirkiness" about them that make them great. Love this era of music!!

  • I've got this on dvd. It's from the awesome German show BEAT-CLUB. Don't worry though, as there is some amount of english througout the show apart from the singing

  • i like the old timey saloon style piano sound

  • they always look sooo happy lol

  • what a great song, i'm on my ass

  • thats the HAIRY CORNFLAKE

  • JAWARYU MISTER LENNON?

  • 16:43 17:43 0:15 ECLAIR

  • ow my...just love these guys so much...some of my best friends ever! mazel tov!

  • 24" TV-screen? Woah.

  • This is Obama's theme song...absolutely....

  • So let me get this straight: they get whole band in a tv studio with all of their gear, plus a trombonist and a piano player and then they make them lip-synch to the record?!?! I'll never understand that common practice that continued well into the 70s.

  • It's a fuckin piss take ya twat haha

  • @MsKiraRose It was more a question of getting the sound balance right, in order to do this in Bremen it would have been necessary to fly out the original A&R man, the Beat Club budget did not stretch that far, In those days there were not even backing tracks available - even then, why take the risk?

  • The Kinks Rulez! <3

  • How come this brilliant generation of baby boomers got so greedy at the end!?

  • Anybody know the model Fender that Ray is playing?

  • Nicky Hopkins on the Piano? Im sure he helped write the song!!--he was in on all of these sessions

  • @thisismyname1967 Not Nicky. Nicky was a session musician and never toured with the Kinks. Sadly he passed away when he was still quite young, he was a seriously nice guy and a genius on keyboards.

  • The Best Band Ever!!

  • Dazzled by Dave’s incandescent adolescent beauty. How easily he carries off a daft hat and absurd facial hair. Bewitching blend of the sad, sweet melody (and beautiful, pure backing vocals) and the satirical, observational lyrical content.

  • Bring on the haters, but The Kinks are better than the Beatles. More sincere, less arts for arts sake.

  • @bzzzzap No need for hate. I love the Kinks AND the Beatles. Plenty of sincerity and art in both bands. Good music isn't a beauty contest or an arms race!

  • @bzzzzap agreed! and The Kinks are more fun to listen to. They sound different too, and rock harder.

  • @bzzzzap I agree. If for no other reason than The Kinks move me emotionally in a way that The Beatles don't.

  • @bzzzzap The Beatles had better singers, better musicians, better engineers and put out revolutionary records... I like the Kinks but they never even came close to Sgt Pepper or The White Album... cheers

  • @IamJMarch

I love the Beatles but I think that as far as lyrics are concerned nobody comes close to Ray Davies.

    No offence meant.

  • @bzzzzap : Of course they're artsy as hell and do arts for the sake of art too, as all the others.

But still they're members of that stellar 60ies/70ies triumvirate The Kinks, The Rolling Stones, The Beatles.

And there's no best band, no best album, no best song from them because there were so many...

  • Could Dave *be* any cuter? Can he see himself in a mirror (straightening his hat, fixing his hair)? Like the way he gives the nod to the trombonist to come on. Sorry for the less than insightful comments but thanks so much for posting this. It's unbearably lovely.

  • Ray Davies and Paul McCartney were the best pop musicians at mixing old music hall styles with modern pop/rock!

  • @coachbk1 They still are brother, the still are...

  • @pachyrysu Alive, yes!! You're acting stupid ;-p

  • PERFECT

  • ray davies and the Kinks - just cant get much better...!!!

  • Who else but the Kinks would think of fusing R&R with old time London music hall. " Hows your Father, hows your Mother...." lol

  • i knitted myself a purple and hot pink bag to match his crazy hat, I intend to carry it the next time I see him in concert and see if he wants to check out out AND wear my crazy hat I found at a women's hat shop at 18 As he did with this one...

  • This song is so beautifully ironic...

  • I love The Kinks! Check out The Len Price 3 if you want to here hear yesterday's sounds today!

  • Nice to see this up again. Such a cynical yet soothing song. Ray Davies is one of the towering songwriters of Rock.

  • I almost forgot about this song until I get their Ultimate Hits CD

  • This was my favorite back in 67 when I was 11 ;-), listening to BBC medium wave here in Denmark.......

Ahead of all the crap they are playing today...

  • why can't things go back to this?

  • listening to the kinks is very pleasant

  • I could not stop staring at Dave's hat. In the end, I tried so hard to rationalize it that when I stopped it suddenly made complete sense.

  • Mr Pleasant was a Kinks single first released in The Netherlands, on April 21st 1967. Video tape displayed here above was taped on May 17th 1967. Greenville Collins is on piano and British DJ Dave Lee Travis is on trombone. One of the best Ray Davies songs.

  • @RadioMezcalito Grenville Collins on piano perhaps, not Greenville Collins.

  • The Kinks : The Greatest Band In The World...

  • Dave is GOD

  • Dave is GOD.

  • Nice!

  • PS it's freakin impossible to decide who is more adorable.......Ray or Dave

    LOVE EM BOTH

it's nice to see them being lighthearted and a little goofy

  • OMG--another gem I haven't heard in decades and had forgotten about

    THANK YOU

  • Got in completely wasted about 3 hours ago in dire need of sleep and thought 'oh I'll listen to one kinks track' big mistake. Can't get enough of them.

  • 01:25

Ohh.. gotta love Ray's little signature finger wave.

  • Is that Dave Lee Travis miming the trombone...?

  • @captainkundalini1

Dave Lee Travis was the compere of that particular edition of Beat Club.

Such a shame that the producer of the show - Mike Leckebusch - allowed him to do it thus distracting from the Kinks and their clearly talented classical pianist Count von Reding.

  • @kinghamhouse INDEED --- however tolerant one tries to be ~ finding a kind thought for Mr. Travis or the misguided tv-tots who employ him is MISSION IMPOSSIBLE !!!

    ::::::MEANTIME::::::

    FABBBBBBB song ----- FAB KINKS ...... xx+guest musician(s) xx

  • @davedoom60

D.L.T really was not a bad person, please don't be too hard on him. He was a bloke who successfully made a mark on the British D.J. radio/TV scene and due to a certain popularity was at his height very successful.

Anyway the director of the show must have put him up to the trombone incident, it is after all not something easily carried around, so he didn't just happen to have it to hand.

  • @kinghamhouse You are right. He was on Radio Caroline North ( Offshore Station for us in Liverpool ~ in those "Pirate" days). He also voiced: "GOING BACK IN TIME with THE SOUNDS OF THE NATION ~~ IT'S A CAROLINE FLASHBACK (echo)" !!!

This is a GREAT jingle AND still sounds very good. DLT (ouch-sorry~hard to change my habits of NEVER calling him that !!!!!!!!) I also "witnessed" @ a club in Manchester called 'DrockaWeenys'. I won't comment. BUT ****** wait for it! GEORGIE FAME was also on ♬♬♬♬♬

  • You can be class & still have a laugh

  • most interesting genre for a song this song has everything in it it, its a brilliant song

  • Dave Davies in the background is great!

  • @klinsmeier yeah! Especially his hat is awesome =D

  • NIcky Hopkins....Awesome piano...

  • 1:18 I love the reference to the "24 inch TV screen" which was considered a large size TV screen back in 1967 when this show was ran.

  • Just awsome.

  • Does anybody know what the deal is with the guy with the trombone? They all seem pretty distracted by him!

  • @TheLeggyredhead , the trombone player was "BEAT CLUB" co-host Dave-Lee Travis in disguise. Guess they thought it was cool back then to have him on stage with the band....

  • @TheLeggyredhead , this is co-host DAve-Lee Travis in disguise on stage with the trombone.

  • iam a high school senior and every day when i go to school this is the first song i listen 2 on my drive to school such a good song

  • This is soo classic are they still together??

  • @madmens666 Jep still together they made some albums in the nineties. Ray Davies is doing some concerts on his one too.

  • my favorite kinks song! brilliant, love it!!

  • Love the trombone in this song.

  • Brilliant <3 the kinks

  • i love this clip and how Dave is totally checking himself out in the beginning. He must be looking into the cam...Brilliant song and band.

  • ohhhh i love this. The mission did an excellent cover of it too, worth a listen!

  • Sounds a bit like "Something Happened to me Yesterday" by the Stones :)

They both have the brass section and everything.

  • -in the middle verse of the song.

  • they were so young!

Dave wears a hat is so cute^^

  • not so!
