This is so excellent. It's obvious that they are having so much fun. Ray has a lovely bouffant hairdo and Dave is sporting crazy whiskers. Good to see they take their music seriously, but not themselves.
I do like The Kinks more then The Beatles. But in the end all of the British Invasion bands have their own "quirkiness" about them that make them great. Love this era of music!!
I've got this on dvd. It's from the awesome German show BEAT-CLUB. Don't worry though, as there is some amount of english througout the show apart from the singing
Hi, we are a band that are heavily influenced by the kinks! If you could please spare 2 seconds to listen to a band that are still trying to play real music then check us out at our channel.
So let me get this straight: they get whole band in a tv studio with all of their gear, plus a trombonist and a piano player and then they make them lip-synch to the record?!?! I'll never understand that common practice that continued well into the 70s.
@MsKiraRose It was more a question of getting the sound balance right, in order to do this in Bremen it would have been necessary to fly out the original A&R man, the Beat Club budget did not stretch that far, In those days there were not even backing tracks available - even then, why take the risk?
@thisismyname1967 Not Nicky. Nicky was a session musician and never toured with the Kinks. Sadly he passed away when he was still quite young, he was a seriously nice guy and a genius on keyboards.
Dazzled by Dave’s incandescent adolescent beauty. How easily he carries off a daft hat and absurd facial hair. Bewitching blend of the sad, sweet melody (and beautiful, pure backing vocals) and the satirical, observational lyrical content.
@bzzzzap No need for hate. I love the Kinks AND the Beatles. Plenty of sincerity and art in both bands. Good music isn't a beauty contest or an arms race!
@bzzzzap The Beatles had better singers, better musicians, better engineers and put out revolutionary records... I like the Kinks but they never even came close to Sgt Pepper or The White Album... cheers
Could Dave *be* any cuter? Can he see himself in a mirror (straightening his hat, fixing his hair)? Like the way he gives the nod to the trombonist to come on. Sorry for the less than insightful comments but thanks so much for posting this. It's unbearably lovely.
i dont understan so much the lyric cuz i speak spanish but just the melody breaks my heart, now im gonna searh the lyric in spanish but the melody makes me smile and cry its so beautiful
i knitted myself a purple and hot pink bag to match his crazy hat, I intend to carry it the next time I see him in concert and see if he wants to check out out AND wear my crazy hat I found at a women's hat shop at 18 As he did with this one...
Mr Pleasant was a Kinks single first released in The Netherlands, on April 21st 1967. Video tape displayed here above was taped on May 17th 1967. Greenville Collins is on piano and British DJ Dave Lee Travis is on trombone. One of the best Ray Davies songs.
Got in completely wasted about 3 hours ago in dire need of sleep and thought 'oh I'll listen to one kinks track' big mistake. Can't get enough of them.
Dave Lee Travis was the compere of that particular edition of Beat Club.
Such a shame that the producer of the show - Mike Leckebusch - allowed him to do it thus distracting from the Kinks and their clearly talented classical pianist Count von Reding.
@kinghamhouse INDEED --- however tolerant one tries to be ~ finding a kind thought for Mr. Travis or the misguided tv-tots who employ him is MISSION IMPOSSIBLE !!!

FABBBBBBB song ----- FAB KINKS ...... xx+guest musician(s) xx
D.L.T really was not a bad person, please don't be too hard on him. He was a bloke who successfully made a mark on the British D.J. radio/TV scene and due to a certain popularity was at his height very successful.
Anyway the director of the show must have put him up to the trombone incident, it is after all not something easily carried around, so he didn't just happen to have it to hand.
@kinghamhouse You are right. He was on Radio Caroline North ( Offshore Station for us in Liverpool ~ in those "Pirate" days). He also voiced: "GOING BACK IN TIME with THE SOUNDS OF THE NATION ~~ IT'S A CAROLINE FLASHBACK (echo)" !!!
This is a GREAT jingle AND still sounds very good. DLT (ouch-sorry~hard to change my habits of NEVER calling him that !!!!!!!!) I also "witnessed" @ a club in Manchester called 'DrockaWeenys'. I won't comment. BUT ****** wait for it! GEORGIE FAME was also on ♬♬♬♬♬
@TheLeggyredhead , the trombone player was "BEAT CLUB" co-host Dave-Lee Travis in disguise. Guess they thought it was cool back then to have him on stage with the band....
Ray Davies is a superb song writer... So underrated.

Bring on the haters, but The Kinks are better than the Beatles. More sincere, less arts for arts sake.

I love the Beatles but I think that as far as lyrics are concerned nobody comes close to Ray Davies.
No offence meant.
taiwanelisa 2 weeks ago
@bzzzzap : Of course they're artsy as hell and do arts for the sake of art too, as all the others.
But still they're members of that stellar 60ies/70ies triumvirate The Kinks, The Rolling Stones, The Beatles.
And there's no best band, no best album, no best song from them because there were so many...
