  • hi, i like that u did not use melted, on fire, ..shea butter. bravo

  • where did you get that aloe vera gel from?

  • does your shea butter keep that consistency or does it solidify ?

  • Thanks for showing how to whip shea without cooking out the goodness! I am also not keen on adding microwaves to it.

How long does this keep for in a cool pantry?

How long would it keep for if you kept in a fridge? Does the consistency change if you do that?

    Thanks!

  • Should try this, i simply use shea butter, coconut oil jojoba oil a lil bit of honey.

  • im sorry but i have trouble hearing you properly did you say coconut oil or crocodile oil?

  • @Shaanaaye she said coconut oil

  • ooooo i thought she was going to say 100% blender ninja

  • I make mine too and apply generously in french plaits at night and take out in the morning, My hair remains soft and silky, I also use for burns, scare was gone in two weeks.

  • hi nina :) does your mixture get hard after a few days or does it stay soft through the period you use it?

  • what do you use your shea butter for? could you use this as a deep conditioner?

  • She butter is a bit pale what you have there is called african butter but they both work really well for the hair and body :)

  • Great video! Thank you!

  • DO u put it in the frig to store or let it sit at room temp?

  • @ahsenerb27 most websites, etc. just say to let it sit in a cold dry place.

  • This won't harm the blender? How easy is it to clean afterwards? I have to borrow my mom's blender!

  • I want that Ninja machine so badly. Great recipe and your hair is gorgeous and healthy.

  • Question: Does the mixture need to be refrigerated since it does contain Aloe Vera gel?

  • This was an excellent video. Great instructions and demonstrations. Thanks for saying how you use it too!

  • Do you know of any remedy for thinning hair?

  • Hey...what was the main purpose of the coconut oil you added to the whipped shea butter mix ? and can it be left out or substituted with another oil ?

  • @BreeziiBabii18 to add to the questions posted earlier...can it be substituted with castor oil ? if not, are there any other oils it can be substituted with ? previous questions do still stand though.

  • Would adding coco butter be too much? I live in Canada and the winters here are harsh as hell... so for extra moisture I was thinking that, also to put in the hair... any thoughts?

  • This is what I love about homemade all-natural concoctions...they're multipurpose. You can use it on your hair and skin, and they're so beneficial. Plus, it's much cheaper (and safer) then being a product junkie (which I was lol).

  • I love this video. Natural products like these really help. Check out my video on how to make thick flaxseed gel.

  • why did you put the gel ?

  • shea butter is soft and fluffy and off white to very pale yellow colour....if ur butter is hard, flaky, or chunky in consistency and has that bright yellow colour it is derived from a completely different tree grown in completely different environment..the shea tree likes dessert conditions where as the other tree grow in wet, moist forest like environments..if u were to smell the two butters being sold as shea butter u will realise they have two slightly different smells...

  • shea butter is from the shea seed, derives from a shea tree....this isnt taen from the shea tree...its from another tree in africa....u can loo at the video shea butter 102 in youtube!!! she explains it very well!!

  • Is your Shea Butter available for purchase? I like your texture of your shea butter. Great video, I like that Blender also.

  • What preservatives would you use instead of aloe vera gel? Thx :P

  • @shawnafrom35 Try Vitamin E oil, Tea Tree oil, and/or Peppermint Oil.

  • I was wondering can you put this on your hair besides for braidouts and if so when would you recommend and how often...Thank you in advance!

  • how long does the shea butter last for you?

  • nina does it stay creamy??

  • does the consistency stay creamy for you?

  • @rabbott3253 For your shea butter to stay creamy you need a specific amount of oils to shea butter. Then you'll really need to whip the hell out of it lol Seriously, the longer you whip it, the more air gets into the product and causes it to stay creamy. If you don't blend it long enough, after a few days it'll start to harden or separate.

  • does the aloe gel seperate from the oils when left alone? also does it get a bit stiffer when left alone?

  • @thisokasion Where can you buy the unrefined white shea butter? Everywhere I go it's yellow :-/

  • @411blah411 I am not assuming anything, I was simply trying to let you know. If you learn something you should pass it on. The reason your is so yellow is because it was dyed. Therefore it is not pure unrefined. I am not the one who has to use it and there are few beauty supplies that will have 100% authentic anything.

  • @thisokasion Sounds like I offended you and that wasn't my intention. I just thought that ppl should know that just because it's yellow doesn't mean that it's not unrefined and just because it's white doesn't mean that it is unrefined. More has to be looked at than just color. I do appreciate your help because I wouldn't have found this info otherwise.

  • Hey Nina..thanks for your video upload..i was wondering how i can mix my water based glycerin with my oil based butter and oils and thanks to your video i see it is possible without seperation however i should slightly mention that what you have there is not shea butter!!! that is african butter!!! please view shea butter 101 and see the differences between the two!!!! take care!!!

  • @SNJosey shea butter is indigenous to Africa, particularly West Africa. so what do u mean by this isn't shea butter but rather "african butter"?

  • yay i have like 80% of these items already including the ninja!!! thanks for this vid :)

  • Hi Nina, Thank you so much for this great tutorial. I love this recipe and followed it to the letter. The results smell great and my skin and hair love it. I'm still trying to figure out exactly how much to put on my hair, as it's pretty greasy, but I'm very happy with results.

  • You can get Shea butter from your local African distributer or local flea markets

  • Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

This video was just what I needed and I now have my first whipped Shea Butter mix and I LOVE it!

  • Does the butter/cream harden in the container once it cools?

  • You say you warm the Shea butter before blending. For how long do you warm it up?

  • Is it always necessary to use vegetable glycerin in order to make a homemade shea butter cream for the hair?

  • Hi. Nice video. Does your butter remain in the whipped creamy consistency or does it change? I used your recipe ( in proportion) and it started off whipped, but it changed to a butter consistency. I still like it, but would also like to try it in the creamy consistency.

    Thanks!

  • do you use the blender for your regular cooking? how do you get all the shea butter out?

  • Nina do you or would you sell your whipped Shea butter?

  • thank you for spelling out all the proper ingredien measurements, very helpful.

  • Hey Nina, just wanted ur opinion...is 100% coconut oil the same as extra virgiv coconut oil?

  • @li1jones Extra virgin is organic, anything that says 100% ANYTHING needs to be checked.

  • Hello Nina, thanks for posting your tutorials. I had the same question as Phoenix0llV, how do you use your whipped shea butter? I'm not sure if it should be used as a leave in or deep conditioner.

  • @li1jones Lately I've been using mostly as a body moisturizer. When I wear braidouts I lightly moisturize my hair nightly with it, then rebraid.

  • @ninapruitt is it always necessary to use vegetable glycerin to make shea butter cream for the hair? what does it do? Could I make the shea butter cream without essential oils such as tea tree oil as well?

  • Thanks for the info! I actually find it at a local beauty supply store.

  • Hi Nina - Do you know where I can find Vegetable glycerin?

  • @MichelleOriana I know you asked Nina the question. but I picked mines up last night at Health Foods Unlimited. So you might be able to get it at any health food store.

  • Hi, I was wondering that when using this product do you have to wash it out after you apply it or can you leave it in without any problems? Kind of like difference between wash out conditioner and leave in conditioner. Because I don't want to use it and leave it in when I'm actually suppose to wash it out.

  • Your hair was cute right here! Was that a braid out? Love em when they are big like that.

  • do u put it in the refrigerate after mix it

  • thank u so much, I cant wait to make mine

  • Thanks for the video, I made my own version last night with raw shea, raw cocoa, jojoba oil, lavender essential oil mix, vit e, tea tree oil, castor oil, and olive oil. After whipping the consistency was like pudding, but very greasy. And today its lost its whipped consistency and is hard. What can I do to combat this in the future? What does the aloe vera gel add to the mixture? I only used around 1 tablespoon of the oils and had 1lb of raw shea. Help would be appreciated!

  • @MommyGlow hi ive made this mixture before and realized that if you melt the shea butter first it will get hard later if you didnt melt it perhaps try adding some distilled or filtered water ive also realized that the aloe vera helps to loosen up the consistency. hope this helps

  • @MommyGlow Try to use a food processor or a mixer makes a difference.

  • Hi Nina I am very greatful for your willingness to share knowledge and help others along the way. I live in Canada (freezing cold) and I was just wondering if the glycerin would be a problem because I know its a humectant. Thank yoU!!

  • Hello Nina, Where did you purchase your shea butter?

  • is it just me, or does this stuff look good enough to eat? :)

  • kudos to you girl!! I am so going to try this...

  • where do you buy your shea butter?

  • @ajwalt72

  • Nina, do you still use this shea butter recipe as a daily moisturizer? I'm using Silken Child moisturizing creme and it works ok, but seems like I have to use so much of it. I want to try this one. Do you think the vegetable glycerin is necessary? If I don't add it, do you think I will have to keep it refrigerated? Thanks in advance.

  • I am thinking about getting a hair steamer for deep conditionings. Can I use this homemade whipped shea butter as a deep conditioning treatment? If so, how much do I put in?? Regardless, I want to try this! Thanks for posting!

  • Does anyone know exactly what color natural shea butter is supposed to be?

  • @TheGoldenArts I read that it is supposed to be off-white or a light yellow. If its golden yellow then it probably has been refined. I guess refined shea butter doesn't have as much beneficial "bang" as unrefined shea butter.

  • @angei161 Thanks!

  • @angei161 Bright yellow "Shea" butter isn't Shea butter at all, it's kpangnan butter or African butter as some call it. Not even the same species of tree.

  • @kwillis76 i was about to comment the same thing! so many ppl dont know the difference

  • @analicious23 No they don't and the sad thing is that stores will keep marketing this as "Golden Shea" so people are thinking that they are getting the properties that it states but they aren't.

  • @TheGoldenArts off white or a very pale yellow.

  • Hi Nina! Love your videos. Thanks so much for sharing your experience. It's been encouraging and educational. I made the whipped shea butter yesterday and would like to use it, however, I don't like the smell. It's very strong. How do you get past it?

  • Is regular glycerine as effective as the veg. Glycerine?

  • Thank for the video! I tried it and loved it! Now for those of you who don't have a ninja, don't fret; I used a food processor ( the kind that you can place on top of your regular blender) and it came out great!!!

  • I was wondering if the Aloe Vera Gel is necessary? I live in Guam and they don't sell it on the island. Any Help is greatly appreciated!

  • @Littleslady No it's not necessary, just add extra oil inplace of avg to get a looser consistency.

  • Where did you get the 100% argan oil?

  • @MrsCBeautiful EBay or Edenallure,com....but it's not necessary, I added it cause I had it on hand.

  • @ninapruitt I would like to know where exactly you got all of your ingredients. Cuz I've watched other shea butter whip tutorials and your method honestly looks the most trustworthy lol. so i wanna do it exactly the way you did it in the video..

  • @PartekXL I'd recommend adding the coconut oil if you're planning on wearing your hair in braids, wigs or extensions during the winter. The added material keeps the oil at a liquid, which keeps your hair moisturized.

  • @MrsCBeautiful Try iherb.com. Just got aloe juice from there. You can get most natural hair products (essential/carrier oils, leave-ins, shampoos, etc) on there. This time of the year they also have great discounts and they always have a flat shipping rate of $4. Depending on the weight of your order, you might as little as $2 for shipping. Here is a coupon for you ladies and gents to use for $5 off: ARU392 (this is for first time orders). Many people can use it.

Thx Nina! Happy New Year 2011!!

  • Thanks for the tip really helpful

  • hi i have a question about the longevity of the mixture. I know you said the aloe gel has the preservatives so that should prevent mildew but how long do you keep that batch out. or how long does it last without it going bad. i want to make a batch for hair and body and want to gauge how long it will last....thanks for all the helpful videos...

  • @misskittytwo This size batch usually last me approx 3 months, I store it in my hall closet where it's cool and dry, it never went bad on me during this period. If you are concerned with it going bad, I suggest you whip a smaller size batch to assure freshness.

  • Hello nina, nice video!! where do you order your shea butter?

  • wow i love your whippe shea butter. I lhave all these ingredients,im going to try it this weekend for me and my 2yr old. A question if you dont mind. Does it work for thin hair? Cause my hair texture is 4a but sort long and thin, i need something that can help my hair to be tihick.

Anyhow your Tutorials are amazing especialy your home remedies. Thanks for all your great videos!!

  • Why do you add aloe vera gel and vegetable glycerin?

  • Thanks so much for sharing your nuggets!

  • Hi Nina! You've inspired me to go natural again! THX. Just some advice regarding shea butter - the natural unrefined, unadulterated shea is pale off white. The yellowish shea is also a product of West Africa but it is not shea. It is African butter - which also good but not from the Karite Tree (Sahara deserts). Actual shea has better moisturizing properties. Check out my site...Sunsourcenutrition. I make a Sweet Body Butter cream with shea. I will send a sample, if you like as Thx!

  • tried ur recipe, its the best, and it didn't turn solid, yayy.

  • Cant wait to make mine in my Ninja. I have had the Ninja for a while and absolutely love it compared to my magic bullet express just have to be careful cleaning those blades from the Ninja, very very sharp. Yeh I have cut myself a couple of times, not bad though Thank God. :-)

  • hey nina!... I have a random question the coconut oil . what are the benefits of that. do they help with shedding! I follow some of your products you use and im trying to see which product you can say contributed to shedding and stretching . im only 15 weeks post its a new record for me but girl I cannot handle this shedding .. so I think i will try strictly coconut oil in my hair to see if it will heal it . thanks for your help.. keep up them videos! god bless.

  • @moniquejohnson100 evco is known to reduce shedding, try doing hot oil treatments 1-2 times a month using evco. Aloe Vera also helps reduce shedding, I spray my scalp with it once a week after shampooing and conditioning.

  • nina is this ur satin braid out method? how many bradis? tia

  • great video ninapruitt where can we get the sheabutter from

  • where did you buy your blender?

  • @brownbeauty44 Target

  • Hey Nina- What color is your shea butter? On the screen it looks orange/yellow. Pure raw unrefined shea butter is a light tan or very pale yellow color with a slight destinctive smell. I called to double and triple check . White shea butter is typically refined. These are the sites I contacted for the info..bulk natural oils store, green pad living and alaffia. You peaked me to research this further :-)

  • @remilace Sorry for the poor quality vid! it's actually medium yellow color...it's unrefined african shea butter from ghana, I have also tried pure shea butter (light yellow) from joyspureshea, com and they both work the same in my opinion!

  • @ninapruitt the "shea butter" you are using is actually African butter not shea butter, it comes from a totally different tree, but it has good qualities and is beneficial for skin as well. i use the african butter as well and i like them both

  • so u can use that on ur skins even though it has the aloe vera gel?

  • @quintinyable aloe vera gel is also good for the skin so it should be fine :)

  • Very nice mixture.

  • It came out beautiful! Thanks for sharing, I might have to upgrade my blender & purchase that Ninja!

  • Question Nina: I was wondering...does it stay this consistency well after mixing?

  • yummy! that shea butter looked good enough to eat!!!! i need to add some more ingre because mine too turns somewhat solid. thanks so much for your awesome videos. i always look forward to any video you put out. we love you dearly. more videos please?????

  • If you've ever used the white shea butter before, is there a difference between the yellow shea butter and the white shea butter? Also, do you sometimes add a scented oil or some type of fragrance to give the shea butter a better smell? I can't stand the smell of raw shea butter.

  • what's the difference between it being whipped or not? is it better that way?

  • @MizMimiCullen I think it's just easier to apply. It went from those solid chunks to smooth. Also, you're able to add in any of your other favorite oils or fragrances to make it your own.

  • thanks for posting! you don't realize how many people you help with your tutorials :) Thanks again

  • Thanks for making this video. This is the best shea butter mix that I have seen so far =)

  • @leigh4health yep I think u are right. I love the mix too

  • does yours stay at that consistency or does it turn a bit less creamy after that? your hair is so healthy and full!

  • @withintheword It stay at this consistency at room temperature, during the winter months it may become SLIGHTLY less creamy but never solid.

  • Great tut!

  • Great video but you should have fill the informations box to help yr subs to recreate the same. :-)

  • @kciebenz Okay will do!

  • Hi Nina, great vid when I whip my shea butter it goes hard again ? Do you get this problem? But like you say im gonna put more oils in it. My mum gets it from Ghana and i think its slightly lighter than the brand in my local African store. So I wont but it from there anymore due to storage issues.

  • Great vid Nina! My friend was telling me that she whips hers.. and I thought whoa.. that's too much for me.. and I didn't want to use my kitchenaid .. but it looks so easy.. I gotta get one of those ninjas! THANKS!

  • And here I am thinking I need a "hand mixer" to make a whipped Shea butter mix! I can use my food processor/ blender! I'm about to head to the the store for my shea butter right now! *leaves computer to get in the car immediately*

  • oh my bad you said it thank you

  • when do u use the shea butter mixture and how u just it

  • Girl you are so pretty. you remind me of a black barbie....but prettier :)

  • @prettyrachel85 Aww thanks hun, such a sweet compliment : )

  • Love the vid, and I have to get that Ninja blender...LOL

  • ok didn't know she was that young

  • of course i like all ur videos your hair always look wonderful is your daughter's hair as long as yours too.

  • @04070413 Thank you! My daughter is 3 yrs old , her hair is at BSL (lol @ BSL) when stretched!

  • THANKS!!!! I have been waiting for this video!! I whipped some shea butter before and didn't use my Ninja since I was on a road trip but I will definitely use it when I make yours. Your consistency looks a lot better than most shea butters I have seen :o)

  • @musofo17 Thanks hun! The blender makes it alot easier and the consistency turns out perfect every time!

  • Get all the "goodies" off the blades and blender (◠‿º). I make my own shea butter also. I like the idea of using the blender. I never thought about putting the mixture in a blender. I use a hand blender to mix mines. I do have and old blender. By next batch I will mix in that blender and us that blender only for making the shea butter.

  • @ansbach74 LOL..I did once I turned the camera off!

  • does the shea butter stay that consistency? does it thicken up?

  • @jsenat25 At room temperature it stays this consistency.

  • Hey where do u get ur aloe vera gel? Its so hard for me to find and the ones that i do find have alcohol in it.

  • @kadzal The particular brand she has in the video you can find at WalMart. Otherewise try your local health food store.

  • @MsChanteJ72 thak you so much my dear

  • @kadzal I got mine from Walmart...brand "Fruit if the Earth"

  • @ninapruitt thanks Nina keep the videos comming btw I love love love ur hair its gorgeous!

  • @kadzal Thanks Hun ~ today was a big hair day, rainy weather!

  • @ninapruitt Oh man i feel u on that one I had a cheese poof on my hair when it got through with me lol :)

  • Thanx for the vid..I'm going to attempt to make this

  • Great video...my hair does not care for Shea butter much, but I am thinking of making a shea butter mix for my skin. Did you get your Ninja from Sam's? I saw one in there the other day and said I would be checking out reviwes on it. What else do you use your for?

  • @j80edwards Thank you! I got my Ninja from Target, its definitely worth the money. I use it mostly to make Smoothies & Frozen Drinks....crushes ice in seconds!

  • @ninapruitt Thanks a lot...will be checking it out.
