  • knew most but it realley helped my understanding anyway! thanks!

  • Even easier is to just say your name and then desu, example: "John desu." Japanese is not as dependent on "I" "you" "s/he" etc.

  • I like the way you enunciate words in Japanese

  • We need more!!! :)

  • Thanks bro this helped alot!

  • Thanks again for these lessons man. I'm starting to get overwhelmed and it's nice to have a quick refresher course. Keep kickin ass!

I came to watch this again for my 1 year anniversary. Thank you so much Victor for leading me in the right direction.

  • hey dude i have loads of questions i want to fire at u but i'll keep it basic my reading and writting in japanese is at a decent level but my gramma really really sucks im really struggling and vocal conversations is near impossible for because its 10x harder listening to someone speak it than it is to read

  • you are simply great!!!!!

  • I think this video was truly helpful. thanks for not removing it!

  • Many thanks Victor i highly appreciate what you are doing for us , just keep'em coming .

    Warm regards .

  • Thank you so much for putting up this video! It was really good, I really learned a lot! Thank you!

  • Thank you very much for this video i learned smth new ! :)

  • I have a question...

Can "desuka" be used with words like "itadakimasu" to form "itadakimasu desuka" (which I'm imagining is "Do you really want that?")

    P.S. This helped. Arigato

  • Nope. All are verbs. Japanese sentences usually end with verbs.

  • So you mean it's NOT possible to say it like that?

And if not how can that sentence be formed?

  • i hav a japanese book that sez that HAJIMEMASHITE means ''how do you do?''

  • How do you do? is one way of greeting someone for the first time.

  • Love this lession and the style of teaching. Please make more!?!?!?!?

  • Its amazing!

I already know this because i work with Japanese people and they told me!

I would like that u make some more videos! You are really nice!

Exactly what kind of coffee do you drink there? :) Like your energy-

  • I went Tokyo just yesterday. And they kept saying "Sondaiyo" or smth like that. and another word is 'yokoso'. Anyone noes the meaning?

  • Yokoso=welcome

sondaiyo? Maybe you heard SOUDAYO, which means "yes, that's what I mean."

  • I thought "Hajimemashite" meant hello for the first time to someone.

    and "Konnichiwa" meant hello?

    =o

  • I know this is one of your early vids, and I don't want to come across as a hypercritical douche, but I would introduce "kudasai" or "onegai" as the first "please give me" expression.

"Itadakimasu" looks and sounds intimidating to new students.

  • I found it amusing that even though you have a Latino heritage, your "Spanish" accent sounded Slavic.

    hen desu.

  • wow thankz alot for this video it helped me alot with my Japanese !!

  • Love the way you teach! I am a huge fan now after seeing this video for the first time! I am trying to learn Japanese because I watch so much anime and read so much manga that I figured I should learn something actually useful--ha ha! I have bought several textbooks and am learning more about grammar however being able to hear how it is pronounced is very helpful.

  • oh, no -- my friend tells me that my comment is an insult. I'm very sorry. I just want to say that I think it's better to have a native speaker.

  • Oh, I agree. Problem is most native speakers are TOOO shy. But I can tell you things that most natives will not notice because they never had to study Japanese as adults. I have a new series on gimmeaflakeman you might like. Fun. Japanese for Morons. Check it out if you're interested.

  • wow, if that's your Alabama accent, you need to give up the impersonations.

  • I lived in Birmingham for 6 years.

  • really, that's cool. I was born in Birmingham, and live in Huntsville. I've never heard anyone in Alabama talk like that. They talk slower and more twangy. Anyway, sorry if I upset you, I was just joking.

  • Nice I remember a Calculus lesson here in youtube that the professor talks just like you!

  • for those who don't know:

    itadakimasu is said before eating.

It basically means, "thanks for the meal/Let's eat/ect"

You're basically thanking the spirits of the things you are about to eat for allowing you to eat them.

example: before you eat a steak you say itadakimasu. You are saying "thank you cow, for letting me eat you."

there is no EXACT translation into English.

also -- i'm not Japanese but i've done some research on this before because I was curious, hope I helped ^^

  • That's actually a very good explanation!

  • Thank you ^^

also, your video was really good :D

  • if someone speaks spanish the meaning would be "Buen provecho" in french "bon apetit"

  • I love it!! Thanks!

    xSalomé

  • thanksssssssssssssss
