I was 9 the day Dale hit that wall. I was watching the race with my dad and we couldn't believe our eyes, THE legend, gone. My dad had taped every Daytona 500 that he can remember and when this tape was finished recording, it got hung on our honorary Dale wall. RIP #3, keep Intimidating in heaven, you are sorely missed.
this guy was a legend,...even though i didnt like him much...i wateched him hit that wall....i just knew at that very instant something happend! when i heard them say he didnt make it...i just dont remember wat i did after that..it still makes me cry when i see him on tv or something
I remember calling my aunt after this happened my gramma said she was in her romm screaming and bawling into her pillow my dad was THE BIGGEST fan of the number 3 and he went into a deep depression for a week after that happened
he was to me,like elvis was to my mom, john wayne to my dad.i'm 41,and i still cry when i see that man on anything.i guess god had a bigger purpose.sad to see him gone.best of the best!!!!even king richard will say so!!!!so,1man+1car+1race=#3 4-ever.
dale was the greastest racer that ever lived. i mean heck yea the pettys and all the other good ones are good. but dale was like no body could ever be. one day i want to race in Nascar and no body can take that away but GOD. RIP dale. and i hope i see the Earnhardt name back to wining.
it was the last race me and my dad watched live together in person. And when he hit that wall i turned to my dad and said dad hes hut i just know it. He said naw that dale would walk away. Well we got back to the hotel and then later my mom called me and said we need to turn the news on as mike helton had a Serious announcment to make. We turned it on ad we heard them fatal words announced. We lost Dale Earnhardt. I cried my ass off. Now a few weeks ago i lost my father. RIP Dad and Dale
im very sorry to hear you lost your father. its kinda funny tho. dale looked exactly like my uncle owen. i mean when he smiles he has the same two lines on the edges of his mouth and all. so i know what you mean. i was at my brothers house when i heard the news and i lost him at 37 to a brain tumor. ive lost two heroes as well.
This may sound really weird and alien to alot of you im sure, but i swear to god its true
I was very young when i watched Dale every sunday, and at the time, my father wasnt around, and Dale Sr looked almost exactly like my dad, i mean i used to joke that my dad was dael earnhardt, they look so much alike. So it was as if i saw dale as my father, sorry if misspell something i cant see im crying so hard as i type this now, I saw dale as the father i never had, and when he hit on the final lap
i was there that day he crashed i will tell you that silence was unbareable, he was wait no he IS nascar and it will never be the same without him rip dale***3***
i was 5 at the time of his death and even then i knew what had happened, it was also the first time me and my dad had cared for eachother and he held me tight that night
I was 8 the day he died. i watched that race with my dad a saw the crash. it was the worst feeling in the world when i was told the he died. he will always live in my heart and the hearts of my family.
this was the 1st race me and my friends watched as a whole. Honestly, it didn't look bad but the way the fox commentators kept talking about the crash...i knew it couldnt of been good...damn it, i miss him....
i was also 6 and at the time i didnt really pay attention to it i just liked jeff gordon...now i like carl edwards...but now that ive seen so many racin videos of earnhardt and all hes my all time favorite ...i also have the number 3 on my ministock car... soon im paintin with a silver strlipe on the bottim instead of green
I believe when i was born and at the end of the year i turned over and saw Dale in the winners circle holding his championship trophy, and thats what got me into NASCAR.
When I was four I knew him just by number.
When he died I didnt really pay attention.
It only sunk in earlier this week that he was gone and I started crying my eyes out.
i remember that day he died like it was yesterday. i was only 7 and i didnt even know what the hell nascar was. my mom had said that this dale earnhardt guy had crashed and i was like ok? and then she came back in my room and told me he died and i said um whatever. i then watched the race at las vegas 2 weeks later and ever since ive loved the sport. and i will never forgive myself for saying that after i heard he died, seeing how he affected so many peeople.
you no when someone impacted your life when u still miss him 8 years later and it seems like yesterday wen mike helton made that heart breaking announcement. i mean 8 years and i sill look for that black #3. not a day goes by i dont think about you. we miss you dale.hope to see you again.
I watched the whole race and when I saw that last lap and the crash, I knew it wasn't good. He died protecting his team mates because that was the man he was. A hero in all our hearts and the greatest driver in NASCAR history. RIP Dale Sr
love you dale. i was reading the comments below and didn't realize how many other people were affected for days after. i didn't go back to school until the friday after. i was so sick for those 4 days. i miss you dale. still have all my magazines and newspapers i collected on your passing. along with all my collectables sill showing proudly. love ya dale
i was a kid when he died and i watched all of the postrace and all that stuff on speed till they announced he was dead and i cried for about an estimate 3 days total!
I had a teacher at my elementary school that was a major Sr. Fan. When Dale passed, we didn't see him until March. It was a sad few weeks for all race fans.
You know, at 1:13, I was watching a NASCAR video on tv, and right at 1:13, after M.W. explained his results, you know what Schrader whispered into Mike's ear? He whispered, "It's not good. He's hurt, bad."
i remember when he died and it was just such a sad day and i also remember when they would show he picture on t.v. during the commercials and how it said 1951-2001.
3 i will never forget u i was only 4 years old when your crash happedend and i rember i could not stop crying for a week we love u dale nevergone form my hear love u dale 3
I will never forget that day. I can remember exactly what I was wearing, where I was sitting and I can still feel the pain that rushed through my chest when Jr ran to his father's car and the chills that ran over my body after hearing he passed. I work with a lot of famous people and many of my friends are famous. Nascar fans didn't just lose wonderful racer that day, many people lost a dear friend and family member. RIP Sr, you'll always be in my heart..
( in a sense.. Id imagine the skin was still attached I dont know nor do I care to) and hit the steering wheel. He was already dead though I believe from the broken neck but the official cause of death was listed as blunt force trauma. This was a very "regular" crash and that is what made his death so hard, especially after seeing him so many times wreck horribly before.
Hey, is that '3' in the sky real or fake? (srry, I don't wanna sound like a ney-sayer but I was wondering, RIP Dale). It's hard not to cry while watching this vid... great job! Dale's drving style still lives in Dale Jr. and his eldest grand-son, Jeffery Earnhardt (son of Kerry Earnhardt)
Never forget the man in black the INTIMIDATOR he was and always be in our hearts till the end of Nascar i remember watching the last race he had and to this day I still cant beleve what happend and what i heard on that tragic day it makes me cry and i cannot beleve that he's gone and sometimes i dont want to!!!!!!!! I miss you dale!!!! Nascar can Never Repay him or his family for what he did for Nascar!!!!!!!!! Or the legacy He Left to this day Thanks For Posting it ment alot!!!!!!
I have been a NASCAR fan since 1992. Dale has always been my favorite driver. It sometimes doesn't feel like 7 years. It still hurts even to this day. Miss ya Dale #3
we all cried tht day but then we said if u were here Dale then ud say "When im gone dont morn and rejoice for me im allways with u and just dont forget me nd u can talk to me anytime u want cause im allways listening."
This man, Dale Sr. Was the best damn driver, i admit, that i am a jeff fan, but jr was the best, better then jimmie is now, better then jeff was, and he taught jr all he knew, so look for the second best damn driver out in the nextel cup!
dude man that was the best video i have seen i was in tears the whole time and i must say the reason i am watching nascar today is because of the man in black and i cried when i heard he was killed what a loss for not only the fans but the racing world as well RIP Dale RIP you are still missed
The best tribute by far. brought a tear or two. It doesnt feel like seven years. Dale was my hero and he is and always will be missed so much in the sport. R.I.P Dale. we miss you.
I'm sitting here crying again. This is one of the best tribute videos I've seen. I think it's only the 2nd one I have shared with family. Thanks for the memories Dale. I'll see you "When I Get Where I'm Going."
I had to explain too my 10 year old why Dale wasn't goin to race anymore, seeing my son cry over the loss of his, mine, and every NASCAR fan out there HERO, just twisted my heart.
This is by far one of the best tribute videos on youtube. Great song choice and definitely a tear jerker. Thanks for posting it...Hard to believe its been 7 years.
This is truly a great tribute to him. He represented the simple people in this world. That black #3 always seemed to be racing for you, and that's what it truly felt like. Dale, you'll always be missed! You're truly the greatest man. Be with #88 at Daytona.
Yeah, it didn't sink in for a pretty good while. This song is very fitting as well. I saw Brad Paisley in concert last week, and when he did this song he had a picture of Dale up on the screen. At that moment the whole arena started cheering. Personally it sent chill bumps all over me.
yeah i remember that day. I watched the race and seen him crash. I just thought it was just another typical crash. I tuned in to the 11:00 news that night and seen his face on the screen and it said; Dale Earnhardt- 1951-2001. I just started crying and started pinching myself, thinking it was just a dream. It wasn't.
just like anyother southern boy i know there are three things in life i wanna do
-fish
-hunt
-AND GO FAST!
and dale is the reason for this. ill never forget that day.sitting in my living room with my dad and some freinds. it just looked like anyother crash to me. but it wasnt. R.I.P DALE!!!
I rooted against him in every race, yet when he was killed I cried like a baby. He was one of a kind, no one could race a car any harder than Sr., I'm a Gordon fan, and without Dale, I don't think Jeff would be the driver he is today.
I am sorry to have to say this but to me dale earnhardt will only be the PRINCE of nascar. Not the king I think that title still belongs to richard petty.
even though I hate NASCAR and personally feel it is the dumbest and most boring thing ever, this was a horrible tragedy. Equally among the ranks of the deaths of Kurt Cobain, John Lennon and Elvis Presley
thx for the vid i wasnt privelidged to watch dale race the thing that got me in it was the speech helton made when i was flippen through the channels ive been a fan ever since great vid 5 stars and a great vid dale would be proud man
awsome video this is why i love nascar so much every fan weather u hated him or liked him cried cause we all know how much he did for this sport and even in 50 years peaple will still remember what he has done not just for his 7champs and his wins but because he was a man who would lend you a hand even if he didnt know u cause thats what a real man he was
loved the vid.... there is no way to explain how sad I was the day he died... but he was a rebel of NASCAR. he never wore a full face helmet but I dont see how that would've helped... it was his time to go. I've seen worse crashes than Dale's and those drivers walked away....LONG LIVE AMERICA AND LONG LIVE DALE EARNHARDT
My late Husband of four years now loved Dale Sr and was totally heartbroken the day Dale passed on. He would love this video as much as I did!! Beautiful JOb and the song fit truly. Thank you!!
He is the true legend and the best of the best in Nascar. He will be greatly missed. The song is perfect tribute song. Thank you for the tribute. #3 will live on in our hearts.
1:24 gets me. I could never image what that must have felt like.

This man, Dale Sr. Was the best damn driver, i admit, that i am a jeff fan, but jr was the best, better then jimmie is now, better then jeff was, and he taught jr all he knew, so look for the second best damn driver out in the nextel cup!

When I went to see Brooks and Dunn during "youre gonna miss me" they had a picture of him up there and the place went nuts.
JLPrinzess 4 years ago
yeah i remember that day. I watched the race and seen him crash. I just thought it was just another typical crash. I tuned in to the 11:00 news that night and seen his face on the screen and it said; Dale Earnhardt- 1951-2001. I just started crying and started pinching myself, thinking it was just a dream. It wasn't.

Equally among the ranks of the deaths of Kurt Cobain, John Lennon and Elvis Presley

loved the vid.... there is no way to explain how sad I was the day he died... but he was a rebel of NASCAR. he never wore a full face helmet but I dont see how that would've helped... it was his time to go. I've seen worse crashes than Dale's and those drivers walked away....LONG LIVE AMERICA AND LONG LIVE DALE EARNHARDT

Thatd be kind of weird. Not long after Dale died I saw someone who looked exactly like him walk by me at a NASCAR convention and it was very strange.
