I guess NO ON understands HOW the 555 timer works and more importantly WHY the pins are connected this way. I've been searching all over the internet for months now and everyone just keeps saying "connect this here and that there" without explaining WHY.I want to UNDERSTAND why it's connected this way not memorize it and just show off with my circuit..please for the love of God by unique and explain the connections and stand out from all the other idiots who are teaching us without understanding
@1SmokedTurkey1 I understand what your saying there turkey, this video was made just to explain one mode of the 555 timer, but in order to start to understand the 555 timer, you need to look at the data sheet, search google for that. once u got it, it explains pretty much what ea pin does with respect to whats applied. data sheets are the best thing to look at when trying to understand your parts. and basically whats going on it in this circuit, is.......
@DIYElectronics were setting up a RC time constant with the caps and resistors and is it hooked to pins 2 and 6 which is the threshold and trigger, so the cap charges between 1/3 and 2/3 vcc (time constants google google) changing the duty cycle =) best thing to do is look at data sheets it explains in better detail.
@DIYElectronics Thank you VERY much... I'm a second year EE major we still haven't gotten into Electronics and I would love to understand them just like everything else. Thanks again for the help!
@1SmokedTurkey1 Once you get your degree you will love it! its alot of fun, and can be very rewarding! Like i said in my last comment, key to electronics is datasheets, once u understand how to read them they will be like a dictionary for English! Also formulas are key to much of what goes on because 99% of electronics is math, and knowing what "should" happened when 2 things are combined. and ect.. Good luck tho!
when you talk about the frequency of the wave do you mean the pitch or the pulse time? for example, if you attached a speaker to the output of the circuit, would varying the either resistors or the capacitors make the pitch of the note change or would it make the pulse of the note change?
@nickarnal Hmm, well i believe since notes are the freq of the vibration of the air caused by the speaker moving, if u would vary the freq u would vary the note! =p
@johnmc1985 it doesnt change with the way the power source that just changes how high the sq wave goes, but doesnt changed how long the wave is high, if that makes since.
@johnmc1985 R1 goes from Supply volts to pin 7 then R2 goes from pin 7 to pin 2 and 6(just hook pin 6 to pin 2then pin 2 to R2) then the capacitor is conected between pin 2/R2 to ground. hope that helps.

Está mal la formula. Es T= 0.7*(R1+2R2)*C1 o lo para la frecuencia = 1.42 / ((R1+2R2)*C1)...

Also, about the formulas, where does the battery power fit in with all of that? How does that change when i go from using say 5volts to 9volts?

You lost me at about 5:00. You quit naming pins and i'm confused as to which resistor goes where. R1 to pin 8 and 7 and to R2? please explain..
