i remember tex from cowboy movies, one song he sang i never could find, blood in the sand, tex and gene autry both had special voices. real cowboy sound.
Obviously, the actor John Ritter must have been so very proud of this man, his own dear daddy, and I personally have always loved Tex's music, and THANKS for showing a "78" rpmRecord !!! Most modern folks don't know they exist, and further don't know that they provide a bit higher-quality playback(compared to a "16" a "33", or a "45") due to the speed of the audio analog reproduction of sound. (at the loss of recording Space on the vinyl, of course)
@Hoopermazing Uh, the one heard in the film was Tex Ritter as well. I much favor that and the similar version with different lyrics. For some reason, this one just doesn't have the same foreboding tone to it - perhaps too upbeat? There's a broodiness to the film version where it almost feels like maybe the film won't have a happy ending - Will dies or Amy leaves/gets killed..something tragic.
I Love Tex`s version but the Movie arrangement had more of haunting quality to it with a better array of backround support, therefore, its the best version of all!
That is the first 78 that I ever 'saw' playing, interesting thing about it is at the higher rotational speed must allow for better fidelity, but it takes up the whole side of the standard size of the 331/3 rpm record, so that must explain why 78 went extinct! Great quality though thanks to Jendor 09.
Frankie's version sold 1,200,00. Tex's sold 800.000......2 million total. Not bad for a cowboy movie. The arrangement on the record is different from that of the movie but is still great. Coop's best movie and prpbably the best Western of all time.
I agree. Probably the best Western of all time. Born and raised in the USA, I've seen hundreds, probably thousands of cowboy movies. None were better than High Noon.
High Noon is my favorite. My 2nd favorite is The Searchers. John Wayne should have gotten an Oscar for that movie. It, like High Noon, had a great music score.
Tex is the man that shot my Paw! Really! When my father was a young photographer, he had the job of photographing Tex. Tex arranged before hand to shoot him with blanks to bring realism to the live show. One of those blanks came out of the gun and hit him in the eye! Later Tex told him he did a great job of acting like he was hurt. He really was!
"He made a vow while in state prison, vowed it would be my life or his'n" is one of my favorite lines in all of country music. My grandpa used to say his'n and our'n, lol.
The Tex Ritter version is the original version heard throughout the movie, and not just another version the Frankie Laine version which is just as good as this one is just the more famous.
the movie version is different, is the same performer. it has the lyrics "until i shoot frank miller dead" and "the noon time train carries frank miller." the movie was great.
My favorite version of this song is on my old broken PC :/

Now that's what I'm talking about!
The movie version and the one by that hack Frankie Lane don't hold a candle to "Jack Tripper's" old man.

Amen...you know, when I think of this song, I ONLY think of Tex Ritter's version. Now Frankie Laine and RAWHIDE...I love that too.

@retroflow44 I'm well aware that the version in the film was sung my Tex Ritter. That's probably the reason that it's the only one that I like.

Not in my opinion and the record buying public.
cf1934 3 years ago
I have to agree with wutshisface.
I think Ritter fits the movie much better.
Plus, the record-buying public is the same public which made famous songs like:
"The Whisper Song"
"Summer Girls"
etc.
so, they're not necessarily an indicator of good taste.
Ultimately? I think it's just up to personal preference.

I think Tex Ritter's version fits the movie better, but I still prefer Frankie's version. That's just my opinion.
