  • At mine College we re not aloved to use pc software. We can only use pencil and papper for the first 2 years of education. Can you do the "hand" version on HOW TO DRAW LIKE AN ARCHITECT? Ty :)).

  • Comment removed

  • Very helpful I designed a house with pencil and pad

  • I'm an architecture student and this helps very well , Thank You

  • I'm an environmental design student and this was very helpful. thanks!

  • my fav vid of yours

  • "Mudroom." I haven't heard that term used in a long time. Is it common where you work or live?

  • thanks for the videos, they are very instructive!

  • CAD - a Macintosh SE - priceless!

I am producing floor plans for a school but I am cheating by not using AutoCAD or ArchiCAD. It take slonger but the accuracy does not have to be as exact as a professional architect plan.

BTW, I'm not an architect, just an architect wannabe... TeeHee!

I love the pointers and tips you give. It makes clear what I am doing, even though I never understood it until now.

    Kudos!

  • Folks who don't know: Poche is a term used for the fill-in patterns, like in the dark parts where the outside walls are.

  • Hey i am an architecture student from India.....ur videos are very helpful...!.thanks,n keep uploading...

  • believe it or not, but i design my floorplans, or shall i say the basic outlines, in Paint [yes, the default program, lol]. then move on to AutoCad. i find it much easier than doodling on paper for some reason.

  • this is better than i thought

  • couldnt help but notice how you pronounced foyer.......

    nice vid though

  • ive never used a compass for my designs but i go with the floor plan. omg ive never maped any of my buildings before but i have to be an architect

  • The music is absolutely sublime ::) What's the name of this song?

  • i like the handwriting!

where can i learn it from

  • A separate wing for the "domestic help" and "thin" 2x6 inner walls. This is surely not a typical residential home.

  • Be honest naughty women here benaughtyman.info

  • hii the video is very helpfull and nice bhut i would like to see yhu actaully DRAW!!! have a good day an happy new years an merry christmas to yhuu GOD bless

  • @13okk he cant show you his drawing... first of all its CAD this wasn't drawn by hand... and have you ever used it? anyone that hasn't used the program would be beyond lost, second theres no way he would do this in one sitting... possible? maybe. realistic? fuck no.

  • How do you manage bring your hand lettering into your digital work?

  • @KineticFX scan and photoshop

  • Seems like he's a Mac guy, what CAD do you use? BTW I'm also a Mac guy...and I am using ArchiCAD.

  • Greetings of Peace. Great body of work, sir. Would like to ask a question about lineweights conversion into pixels exterior walls, interior walls, and furniture...and any other lineweights that I might benefit from knowing. I am working with Photoshop and professional animation software, however, not utilizing any Architectural programs. It is close to drafting by hand compared to CAD or SketchUp. So far I have switched between lineweights of 2 px and 5 px on a 36'x24' canvas

  • how can your possible draw that good but wright that badly. xD

    btw nice vids.

  • Does an architect have to know different types of bricks, woods, dry walls, etc?

    Great video by the way

  • Hi Doug, have you considered creating your own true type font and use it within your CAD products?

  • i was looking at this desighn and was taking into acount how you placed mainnanec rooms and living style rooms sepratly an i was thinking that if it was raining and someoen had to go into the kithchen from the mudroom they would have to get a umbrella or trhe desighn would have to encorperate a sling roof that would be electronic

  • nice work but u are not teaching

  • thx a lot =D

  • hi architect guy - nice work - kudos, I couldn't help but notice though that everything looks like it's drawn on one layer... what's your thinking here?

  • my thinking is that reutopia2 probably uses more than one layer, which is wise if you're not a zen master. thanks for the astonishing perceptiveness. I'll be sure to change my ways...

  • omg. Im 17 this year. And i never ever ever thot of becoming an architecture ever in my dream. But since i got a course architecture for polytechnic, i hate it at first because i dont know how to draw and regret choosing that course as a choice. But since looking at this video, i seem to gain interest. I start school in april, so i hope architect will be fun. *im excited* :D

  • im only 12 and my dream is to be an architect

  • haha.. dude. architect is not my dream but maybe .. i have to get used to be an architect :D good luck to you in getting what you want.

  • thank you

  • It is!!

I'm majoring in architecture (university) & I love it, even though it needs alot of work & devotion +_+

  • @epicsorrow29 hey. i saw your comment on the video "how to draw like an architect" and you said you're taking architecture. i'm also taking architecture and i have a question, is it a bad idea to go for architecture when you're not good in drawing? but i'm really really good in designing. :D

  • @bokee21 Hey Bokee!

Being good at drawing is a bonus, especially when ur majoring in interior design, or any design field. & keep in mind the new drawing softwares that boost any doodle you draw on -for example- a media template.

From my experience, it doesn't make a difference wither you know how to draw or not, as long as you practice!!!

Your hand will get used to drawing professionally.

Tip: Sketch out ur ideas as much as you can, also use good drawing tools.

    It's ALL about practice!

  • @epicsorrow29 okok. :) thanks, that gave me a little self confidence. lol. anyway, do you know any good software for architecture. for the pc of course. :)

  • @bokee21

AutoCAD. It's easy & a 2D & 3D interface. 3DS MAX is more advanced, but gives better looking 3D objects ( still images & animation).

  • AutoCAD is a wonderful tool, but is too general, and is kind of hard to begin with, I use it for 2D and for makin' 3D I prefer Revit Architecture, it is easy and great.

    btw Great vid Doug!!

    5*

  • Such a polished presentation! Very well done.

  • What software is best for a beginner?

I am a student, while i am trying to draw my plans in a month or so I understand that AutoCad could be too hard to learn quickly. I am trying to learn Archicad since it is easier to learn. But what is ur suggestion?

  • I've only ever used those two.

  • @howtoarchitect Foyer? Ive heard people call it Foyer (Foy-ay), but others call it Foyer (Foy-er). I know Foyer is french so it could be (Foy-ay). In English its pronounced (Foy-er). Which way is it???? I wish to be a architect but this question bothers me.

  • hi im also an student of aruitecture, and 2 tell u the true, the software " revit" is so easy to model in 2d or 3d, and u can export to other programs, i use autocad, revit,archicad,3ds max, shetch up, photoshop, etc, so...if u need help send me a message ok! good luck future arquitect from mexico city!

  • @in2universe try smart draw it has been very helpful for me so far

  • i have a question... why is it when I open a pdf CAD file into photoshop.. edited it.. print it.. my lines aren't as sharp as it used to be? looking forward to your reply sir.. Cheers! ^^

  • I'm going to guess that the resolution in photoshop is inferior when you save. CAD files are also vector files so they have no scale. Once in photoshop and finally saved the image is scaled relative to 'size' (pixels & document settings).

  • Great Video

How do you add the lettering in photoshop?

    Please send me a message.

    Thanks, love all your videos.

  • Excellent vieo...thanks...cant wait to see the elevation

  • awesome!

  • Can't wait to see the elevation...got me all curious now :D

  • Do people in this field still do a lot of hand drafting and detailing or use more AutoCad and Revit ?

  • so ahh... what CAD software do you use for your computer drawings?

  • i think autocad

  • I love these videos!

  • Is that florplan done in VectorWorks... it looks like it

  • great work!

  • nice vids, do you have a website or some type of online portfolio?

  • thats the shit right dere!!!

  • hey man just one question, the walls always have to be filled?? nice videos!!!

  • @ssivve Not always, if they are drawn in a thick enough line weight they can be easily read as solid walls if left with no fill. Different architecture practices have different in-house styles. Also, it can depend on the scale of the drawing, or the information you wish to convey.

  • @simeoneous tthanks man!

  • ssive, as simeoneous said, every office does things a bit differently. I don't get involved in presentation drawings very often, but for CDs I use 2 different hatch (poche) patterns on all new construction. One pattern for masonry & another for frame. On additions & remodels, I use a third for existing frame walls & also show demolished walls as a light dashed line. A schedule shows everyone what the patterns are for. Wall thickness & other particulars get called out by keyed notes.

  • thanks man, on school they says that the walls must be filled for presentation and a little offset for approval on government documentation, i think its like you said, thanks man!
