@ahrayahthelion Wow, thanx for the wonderful comment and for calling me a bastard for being a friend and student of the legenday Louis Johnson. Happy 2012 to you as well.
If Louis comes by again tell him where to find my channel on youtube and for him to get in touch. I got nice coffee or whatever...... hell he could stay the night.
@funkstar650. How in the world did you meet Louis Johnson? He is my all time favorite, and I've been playing over 30 years. If you get the time, check out my old rendition of "Get on the floor" tell me what you think.
Louis Johnson is my favorite bass player ! I think that he´s the only one that's really SLAPPING the bass. Bass players like mark king just caress the strings. I really wanna meet this guy.
Oh no you didn't have Louis in your house! I can't believe I was watching the Funkmaster with the Funkstar. Now that started my morning off right. Much Love.
Oh, man... I cannot begin to tell you how JEALOUS I am of you! :-) How in the world did you get him at your house?! I guess he's giving private lessons these days(?). It's just crazy to me!!
One of the first (might be THE first) 45's I ever bought was Strawberry Letter #23. The jacket actually smelled like strawberry. :-) From that point on, I was a huge Brothers Johnson fan.
You had a living legend in your house, man. Wish you weren't stingy with the rest, though! :-)
you had to be flipping out because you had THE Louis Johnson on your couch. when I was growing up all the bass players in my hood were almost worshiping this guy! They were sending their StingRay pickups to LA to have them wrapped like his basses
Now what I'm trying to figure out is how you pulled off getting him to visit you other than your great talent...man that's the best. You were impressing him also. I look forward to watching your skills grow. I originally mistook you for a firend of mine named Dwight who plays bass for Peobo Bryson if you can remember, but man I'm so impressed at you. Great chops. I'm just starting 7 days and counting.
ohhhh U lucky dog..meeting louis is one thing, but u had the brotha at the crip, gettin first hand tip at his style, man that memory will be forever in ur head...louis is the man that made me want to learn the bass after I saw the brothers johnson at the Kool jazz festivale in oakland, way back in the late 70s...my story is like yours, I never had lessons, was never taught to read, but I can hear...it just came easy because i played the air bass for so long it was just easy for me...10 stars bro
Yeah, George, what an opportunity to meet H I M! The groovemaster, Louis, is really undisputable great. It is fun an enjoyful to look and listen to you both. More of that, p l e a s e.
Long story but I met him in a local studio first. After we jammed for a few he got excited and asked me to join his network of instructors. That's how he ended up at our house to go through some material together.
G, I always say how good you are but the great Louis Johnson said so. Believe it now? :) What was the connection between Hendrix(My all time favorite) and Louis????
You deserve this man! I hope you and Louis will have a lot of fun in the future. You guys make a great Pair! Remember what he (and I) said: 'Hey man, this guy's good'. And he's ain't joking, man!!!! It's Louis saying this. Louis Johnson!!!!!!!
Wow! Thunder Thumbs in your living room & giving you high praise! How do you stay humble? If I had Larry Blackmon in my living room playing drums & giving me compliments I think I would be screaming off my rooftop! I guess Mark Adams,AAron Mills,Marcus Miller etc. is next huh? Is Mr. Johnson self taught also? Funk On Funkstar!
LOL yeah ain't that sumtin'? I know what you mean brother when you say that you would lose it if Larry Blackmon would be in your home... a dream come true! And well let's see if I can get Mark, Aaron or Marcus down here :-). In any way, they are MORE than welcome! LOL. And yes Louis is also a self taught musician with an OVERLOAD of experience and skills.
This is a "tREASURE" i'm happy that you got to have a dream lesson from the GREAT. Thanks for uploading this non-copyrighted jam session lesson. You too will be a legend in our time Cuz' you still are STANKTIFIED cuz' you are the SHIT!! lol.. peace my braddah.
LOL my Bro, thanx for your kind words... well at least I played with someone who IS a legend and I will try to keep da Funk alive and to keep on spreading the slap bass techniques around the globe, all in the name of Louis Johnson.
this video is awesome! thunder thumpin' with the master! just like livin' a dream! congratulations funkstar650....btw thanks for your comments on my run for cover live video,it really is an honor. =)
They say what goes around comes around, and that prophecy has been fulfilled because all the time, preparation, and sacrifice you've given to help fellow scuffling bassists has revolved back around to you with your latest youtube video with LOUIS JOHNSON!!! I said LOUIS "freakin" JOHNSON!!!
Funkstar650, your ship has finally come in! You are in the promised land now!
You are the Joshua to Louis' Moses! MuchLove, Spiritualmack(Funktified)!
I know... we jammed for about 50 minutes and this is just a glimpse of what we went through. He has the ability to explain things so clearly and with so much feel, really he taught me more in 50 minutes than I learned in 20 years. And I ain't kidding ya!
That, my friend, is just too cool for words. Louis Johnson, sitting in YOUR living room calling your bass playing GREAT? Somebody better pinch you to make sure you're not dreaming!! Ain't we funkin' NOW, my brother!!
Oh yeah my man, We're funkin' NOW LOL. You are right, I had to be pinched a couple of times to see if it was real but it was... Thanx for all the support my man!

OMG, you are so lucky to even know this man. But you get to learn directly from him too?!!! You are da man!!!!! Well, the man standing next to da man. Lol. Lucky, lucky lucky. Peace brother.
I know.... aint't that sumtin'? Lucky indeed but it goes a step further. If you take a look at the other short clip you can see what the purpose was of this visit.
You're welcome. Everyone interested in his techniques can learn through his webpage which will have links to all the official instructors of which I am one of them. People can contact them at any time.
Aw, thank you!!! Playing with Louis makes you very humble. That man has SO much groove in his body, mind and hands you won't believe it. Seeing the master do 'it' live is far better than reading an instructional book. He showed me more in 50 minutes than I've seen in about 20 years! Simply amazing...
MAN MAN MAN, you know "Thunder Thumbs"?! I wouldn't be able to play in front of him, I'd be too nervous, but you were cool. I know it was a beautiful experience to learn from a master and just hang out...much success.
Well, Thunder Thumbs is SUCH a nice and warm hearted person, he made me feel comfy from the moment he stepped into our house. So you lose your nervousness in a heartbeat and just go with the flow.
You're welcome Dennis. I want you guys to learn from this too. And for everyone watching and wanting to learn even more? Everyone can book lessons through his webpage soon. Check it out!
Ah well, you might run into him one day. Never say never... it happened to me so... I never would have thought I would meet him and especially not in my own home!
This meeting between both of you seems that it was like "magic" ! Congrats homie ! it sounds tight as hell ;) Keep up the good work G stay true to what u believe in
This is a day that I will remember for many years to come, it was AWESOME filming you and Louis together, and the Friendship that has bloomed between the 2 of you is unexplainable!!! I seen a kindship, and equal respect between you 2 awesome men!!! , This is 1 of the most exciting day!!
it goes without saying, but I am going to say it none the less, I am Indeed VERY PROUD of you!!! your #1 fan, in more ways than 1!!! your life partner, Best Friend and wife.
Absolutely true, this has been an awesome day... thanx for holding that cam up for so long! :-) Doesn't happen very often having a celebrity knocking on our door do we? LOL. Glad we all could be a part of it... even the girls although they didn't have a clue who he was. And thanx for all the support and believing in me.
George and Louis together. This is history. See the props you're getting from Louis? Told you , G, you're there! But then I knew that! This is fantastic.!
Hey my friend, thank you so much for the great comment. Well I still think that ALL the credits belong to Louis for being such an influence for all of us slap players. The man really deserves a Gold medal. And what a nice guy he is...
Hey man, well what can I say. Of course I was totally honored and thrilled to have him and his manager over at our house. They are such nice people to have over! And to be asked to become an instructor is far beyond my expectations really... the biggest reward that I can get.
Thanx and yes it is... this just a little teaser of almost an hour of rough video material. The rest I won't publish though because I keep that material for the lessons I am asked to give. :-) Not to be stingy... just out of respect to Louis as well. I just wanted to share this little footage with the rest of the world.
The rest I will show when people actually will take lessons from me :-)
Nice work here. Louis seems like a pretty generous guy.

Amazing, I am watching 2 Bass Geniuses!!!!

NashidBey 3 years ago
Well, Thunder Thumbs is SUCH a nice and warm hearted person, he made me feel comfy from the moment he stepped into our house. So you lose your nervousness in a heartbeat and just go with the flow.
Thanx for the support my man!

Peace & love for life...

Hey my friend, thank you so much for the great comment. Well I still think that ALL the credits belong to Louis for being such an influence for all of us slap players. The man really deserves a Gold medal. And what a nice guy he is...
Peace my man and thanx for all the support!
