  • Imperfect beauty

  • O.M.G! THANKS FOR POSTING THIS! I LOVE YOU FOR FOREVER KOKIA!!!!!!!!!! YOUR VOICE GOES NICELY WITH THIS BEAUTIFUL SONG!!!!! A TRILLION THUMBS UP!!

  • Nice!

  • It's nice, but I still wouldve prefer kate's version.

  • her english is soo sweet x33

  • who ever hates this has no scense in music :I this made me cry and ive watched this 100 times

  • My favorite version of this song by far.

  • A very nice try , but the problem is : everybody has Buckley's version in their mind ...

  • @ex59neo53 yeah, but i'm not even sure that Cohen would argue that this is the definitive set of lyrics, one of those covers that overshadows the original.

  • Very impressive singing of this song.

Tho, my favorite remains John Cale's.

  • Wow for a Japanese person to sing this is amazing, they don't have L's in their language, so being able to say a word like hallelujah is impressive considering all the L's it has. And her voice is beautiful to top it all off!

  • this song is actually not about anything discernible. it means different things to different people. KOKIA's version may be about God, while Jeff Buckley's is admittedly about sex.

  • This song is about following God but stumbling because of our own yearnings, but then getting up. Also about finding God's presence in other people.

  • we sang this song for the graduating class this years... full of tears and emotions yet still beautiful like the way it should be. she does it perfectly

  • this is absolutely awesome but the saxophone really kills it for me...

  • she sounds 16 or something and yet...its too good to be true, shes amazing ~♥~

  • I love she, and her voice..

That´s the best cover of Halleluja....

  • I like how she'll just let the last note of a phrase die out on a faint breath. It works very well.

  • So she speaks English fluently too! She is one of the most amazing women in the world.

  • xD I love this song, it's interesting to hear it in her version. I'm used to the Rufus Wainright version.

  • Her voice.. The song.. The combination just couldn't get any better.

  • Jeff Buckley, R.I.P, love you Kokia!~~ But Transparent is just... beautiful <3

  • She seems a little baby, here... :-) Sweet.

  • her interpretation is so sweet and haunting and weird and just..brilliant

  • This is so beautiful~ *cries*

But... if her mission is to spread the love of God then, uh, this isn't really the best song to do so ^^" I love it to death, though~

  • @KKbook well, her mission is to spread the message of Love, sometimes God ... I think this is a good song to spread that love for God you refer too.

  • @timetotakeabath does she even speak english? cause if not, her performances on a lot of these english songs are very good.

  • @Funnypandalonies yes she speaks English. pretty well too.

  • @KKbook

She isn't a missionary... she is just one of the few Catholic Japanese. She grew up religious so she does alot of religious music.

  • I LOVE IT!!

  • this version is the best.... :)

  • I love her but this time I didn't like it..I found it too fast...and I think she's just too cute for this song...

  • Her voice sounds so delicate...

This is probably the best cover I've ever heard...

    So beautiful.

  • She sings like this for a number of japanese songs as well. Her range is downright wtfworthy if you listen to a number of her albums. Whilst i'm not overly fond of the really high voice personally, I admit it takes a LOT of skill to actually maintain her voice at this tune without losing it and fumbling the whole song. As mentioned before, her Ave Maria is just downright amazing.

  • Wow, even though it's not her native tongue she still manages to amaze!!!

  • watch?v=kk18OIT0ZTU

  • Honestly I don't know the singer but she sounds so young. Great job though but my favorite version will always be Jeff Buckley's.

  • Why doesn't she hold any notes out, it's like she's not even singing she's just wispering and her breathing is louder than her voice...

  • @GuamKomudo You say that after hearing her sing Ave Maria.

  • @GuamKomudo you say that as if breathing isnt beautiful.

  • @GuamKomudo listen t her sing ave maria and i bet it'll change your mind. she just sings like this for only hallelujah for some reason.

  • My favorite version of this song..

She have a awesome voice *_*

I cry when I ear this song xD

She have a great voice, she's beautiful, she's just awesome <3

  • One of my favorite songs and one of my favorite singers. Does it get any better!

  • beautiful <3

  • The way she sings it, you can almost feel her lips kissing you. LOL

  • Wow... This is one of the few engrish songs you can actually understand without lyrics :)

She sings most without accent, and english is a pretty hard language for japanese people. Since, aside from the n and a, i, u, e, o all syllables go like "ka", "ha", "mi", "te", "yo", "shi", "kyu" and such.

That is why usually you hear letters which don't belong there "beddo" instead of "bed", but this is totally different!

    sugoi

  • her beautiful voice is touching my heart

    last part goes :

    Maybe there's a God above

But all I've ever learned from love

Was how to shoot somebody who outdrew ya

And it's not a cry that you hear at night

It's not somebody who's seen the light

    It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah

  • the accent makes it all so much better

  • beautiful. kinda got lost in her voice. And it's not a child voice, it's a pure one

  • beautiful

  • It's too beautiful for words.

  • @sayaakarua16 oh, what a lovely commentary :)

  • @sayaakarua16 I couldn't speak. I couldn't move. I just closed my eyes and cried and cried. Kokia's songs overwhelm me with emotions ... everytime.

  • She's taking English classes at the moment in Dublin, so her English will be improved for her next song in that language :) (Anyway, the pronunciation in this one was good enough for a japanese speaker... what future holds for us, I don't know...

  • @timetotakeabath i actually like her accent very much, it has a innocent touch and that matches very good to the song.

  • @timetotakeabath Oh dear, she's learning English from Dubliners? Lol, her language skills might get worse after it's all said and done.

  • This is a very good cover of this song, love it. The guy who thinks she's 8, yes she has a young sound to her voice. But check her profile on the net. KOKIA (Akiko Yoshida) She's 30+ years old. But it is pretty amazing being Japanese she sang this song so perfectly in English, when she could of done it in Japanese.

  • no way !!! she cover that ^^ that's nice ^^ !

  • such a sweet voice ... fell like kissing her ..

    god bless u kokia .. u have a wonderful n sweet voice

  • I don't like he version very much because it's a bit ripetitive, the marks are not original...the second part it's better...btw I considering Kokia the most beautiful voice on Earth.

  • amazing !!!

    < 3

  • wow.... Kokiia did such an amazing job on this song. I got shivers.... and to think that english isn't even her launguage, it's just....wow :) <3

  • my mother is a fan of Leonard Cohen and im a fan of kokia. its funny.

  • Its a love hate song i like it yet i don't but she it does sound like shes using emotion. i hate then that alex berk sang it.

Je ne m'en lasse pas... <3

  • I really don't understand how you could say that. She doesn't sound 8 at all, her speaking is obviously that of an a adult. She's also foreign so it's amazing that her pronunciation of English is so spot on.

That all put aside, I think it's a beautiful rendition of amazing grace. Her soft voice really lends to the lyrics, and melody, and the already sad song becomes a bit sadder, for me at least.

I don't know why anyone would say such a completely baseless, random, hate-filled thing.

    Oh well

  • Woops, mixup, I meant Hallelujah, not Amazing Grace.

  • Bored people, I'm afraid.

It's a very personal theme so, taking into account the song is quite well performed, I would not make very negative remarks. I think the it's sung with such a honesty, and trying to cope with the sadness of the story. The funny thing is that KOKIA could have sung it in a much more imposing or aggressive way (she has te means), but she chose another tone. What I like of KOKIA is that she is able to dose her vocal potential, avoiding exaggeration or inappropriateness.

  • They likely can't grasps the concept a grown woman can sing so pure and clear

  • AWESOME beautiful voice even if she does need to practice english a bit

  • truely beautiful *^*

its sooo soothing that it kinda puts me to sleep ^^

    sounds kinda llike a lullaby

  • Sweet ! :)

  • I just love it. Bravo. The Lord is so good.

  • Really beautiful, but I think that she should practice pronouncing :D Anyway, Kokia has got such a beautiful and calming voice! <3

  • Omg!! J'adore!!

  • Sublime voix !!

    Magnifique cette artiste!!!

    Etonnante Kokia!

  • the best cover of Halleluja!!

  • The lyrics are a bit wrong.

    It's...

"It's not someone who's seen the light."

    Oh, and also...

"But it's not a cry that you hear at night."

But thank you so much for uploading this! I love it!
