Rubbing the back doesn't increase the likehood of getting a burp. The patting creates a jiggle and that is what gets it out, not rubbing. Sometimes just changing position does it. After a baby starts crawling, they generally don't need to be burped.
This might be a dumb question, but: how long (as in age) does one burp a baby? Is it until they reach 6 months or until they are done breast feeding? Thanks for this helpful video!
Not a dumb question at all. Anytime a baby is sucking on a bottle/breast they could potentially swallow extra air. With that said, breast babies don't swallow as much air as a bottle babies would, but it's always good to go ahead and try to get a burp out...for comfort and to decrease the amount of spit up. Some babies will burp and some won't, but I always suggest attempting it.
