im confuzed, when i was comin in to birmingham airport i started to do my ils procedure and their was lots of different frequency's and 2 different approach frequency's and it was 118.325 so i went to go and set it on the nav 1 and it only went to 117. and went back to start, i got really fustrated and confused so i thought i might ask you?? plz can you help!! ;D
@GidazEFC98 I think that the frequency 118.325 is a radio frequency and that u need to select one of the ILS or arrows on the map to give a frequency and approach that runway
@mikefog123 yeh just tryed it out got the ils frequency thanks, but it doesn't actually guide me to the runway and land :( my luck is crap i wish sumin could just workout for once, could you help? it also says something about the ils heading so i set it cuz thats what turns the plane to line it up. is this just different with fs2002 or sumin, cuz thats what i've got..?
u need to disengage the Alt Hold for it to decend... if u have 'APP' and ALT HOLD on it will just fly straight.... have just the Approach button pressed... you have dots on the instuments to tell u ur on a perfect glide slope and when the dots are in the middle u need to disengage the Alt Hold then.
when i try to do this my plane doesnt automatically decend!? i left my plane on altitude at 23000ft but it didnt decend to go down in line with the runway!? HELP!?
@lukers556 If you had a flight plan IFR, the ATC would have guided you into the approach, and when you are on the "straight in pattern" you engage the ILS for the selected runway. Remember, do not use the ALTHOLD when you are doing an ILS approach. Just use the APP. Hope it helps.
@6Zebulon5 when i set mine, it doesn't light up the G/S so i have the same problem as lukers556, it doesn't automatically descend, the plane just flies over the runway, please help
@lukers556 this is only for the final approach, if you're at 23000ft and wanna lose altitude, you need to still be in gps controlled autopilot, and set the altitude you wish to reach. the final approach here should start 20nm before the runway at an altitude of about 4000ft
You said that real world pilots disengage Autopilot when they are above the ground? That may be so, if the pilot chooses. Autopilots are so advanced they can even land the aircraft.
When it popped up when it attempted to flare, it looked like a very bad and unnecessary go-around. Also, when it zooms out like that in LOCKED SPOT view, just press Ctrl+Spacebar to automatically zoom out and go to the back of the plane. That little trick works with any plane.
Hey there...i liked the vid infact its gr8 but i believe when ur comin in for the approach ull b goin on 140 to 145 knots if u can maintain tht speed ull have a perfect landing wid those skills xD try it#
I am flying using the GPS mode from Sydney to Melbourne. How far out do i need to switch to the NAV? My plane never seems to catch the ILS and just keeps flying straight over the airport. Please help...
it should lock on before the green feather...make sure to switch gps/nav to nav mode and click on the runway fearther and set the ils frequancy and heading...approach at around 140 kn, gear down and flaps on at 3000ft.
Ok I have a problem... I was playing FSX multiplayer today, and I set up the correct ILS procedures, but at landing my plane was to the right of the runway, I mean like not even above the runway to the right... Help me on this
Just for all those people who are wondering why they cannot land using the instrumental landing system, make sure you have full knowledge of the GPS system and autopilot. Great tutorial, helped me out a lot.
I can answer why your flare when crazy... 180 knots is to fast for a plane to land with, especially with the flaps all the way down. The maximum landing speed is 160 knots while the minimum landing speed is 140 knots. And I remember u metioning pilots doesn't do anything, well I can tell you they do. Great video though! I favorite, like and subscribe. :) I hope you'll come with more videos.
thanks for posting this...you are right some others vids are confusing...i think your approach was too fast so the flare turned into a lift off XD. should be landing around 140kn full flaps.
can u help me plz when i turn on the autopilot master switch on the plane just falls in the water and i put the same frequency for the airport i was landing and everything else was correct but its weird it just falls in the water plz help!
it "does that" because you're going in too fast.. you have to touch down just above stall speed which should be around 135-140 KIAS..try 135 KIAS, and it wont "do that".. ;)
Thank you so much! I fnnaly understand how the land in ILS :) greats from Holland!!

@GidazEFC98 Yes I had the altitude hold on to steady the aircraft and then used the approach hold switch to allow the aircrafft to descend.

B738 ILS landing:
Tune ILS freq when ATC says "Expect RWY ***"
Press the APP button on the A/P when getting CLEARED ILS
135kts on final (when cleared to land, should be BELOW 160kts when getting clearance)
Flaps should be 25 before getting cleared to land then set it full.
Speedbrake (spoilers) armed when landing.
Take over at 500ft AGL (above ground level)
Keep the plane decending to the runway and flare WHEN ABOVE.
Flare to early and you'll stall
