It just occurred to me why the world would be a wasteland.

The movie had to be made on the cheap. So of course. The shit area of CA is always used. I hate when they do that. I understand its difficult to come up with funds to make shareholders happy. But far to many movies and tv go down that path. Bottom line is it makes a shitty story. Most of the planet does not live in a desert. Making things rather unbelievable.
