Actually, the reason for the Iraq war was that Saddam was about to flood the oil market with cheap oil, but more importantly he was to sell this cheap oil in Euros not $US. This would have driven the price of oil to $10 and would have cut the US out of the lucrative trade in oil in $US. The Afghanistan war was about the Taliban refusing to allow UNOCAL to build an oil pipeline through their country as the US was going to pay them a pittance for the privelege. Iran now ants to sell oil in Euro

The Iraq war was more about keeping the oil in the ground thus creating the illusion of supply shortage & raising the price from the $36bbl in 2003 to the high of $150bbl. As I stated Saddam wanted to flood the market, this was unacceptable to those with a plan to raise prices not lower them.
