This is more sad when you think about the whole "Chell dieing" theory. Yes, some people theorize that Chell's ride toward the wheat fields was her ascending to heaven, and that the wheat fields themselves were heaven. The turrets really did kill her.

All I can say is that the 'beginning' is the original song, completely and utterly unedited, not only for those who enjoy the original version, but to also juxtapose it with the edited. In any case, I still very much enjoy the original recording and don't think it needs any 'work' at all, but it was fun to offer an extended version. If you are referring to something else--perhaps w/ regards to cadence or pitch--I am always open to musical suggestions.

@polarmanzues That's not Rattman, that's really just one of the frankenstein-turret/cubes hobbling past. Rattman put himself in a stasis chamber (which can only be opened externally) after getting shot in the leg by a turret, if you hadn't read the comic, so that can't possibly be him.

@Anthony883 At 1:30, I did, actually. It was a very minor (and only) loop to juxtapose the original with the edited--which actually comes a bit later. Also, if you'd like to leave some intelligent criticism, I certainly welcome it. 'Ew' is not very informative. And do try to listen to the entire piece (as opposed to stopping before the actual edits, ~four seconds in the next loop) before leaving a comment. Credibility shoots up this way.

3: instead of looping the track when the first is complete to the start of the next track., try looping the end of a phrase to a similar sounding start of a phrase. for example 2:20 after she says "bel" smoothly cut it back to 1:45. then at 2:03 smoothly cut it to 2:23.

4: some of the echos were unnecessary and could be taken out.

A little critique, if I may be so bold.

1. It is impressive. There is no doubt about that. The dynamics used in the second half of the song add a note of sadness and longing for a loved child missing, an altering of the mood before.

2. My only gripe is in the middle of the song where the song decrescendos to pianissimo. Personally, I find the "distortion" or "muffling" used to try to lend a note of distance is a mite overdone. If a future version were to be made, I would suggest it be removed.

@DFZero235 I actually completely agree on your second point here. I did not want it to be as soft and muffled either. Unfortunately, it is very difficult to edit and use a pre-rendered track with sound effects, modulation and everything already mixed together. Makes things much more difficult. I had to soften it at this part because, were it to be louder, the background of another part of the track (from which I was splicing) would be too audible and ruin the section.

In order to decrease this, I had to clean it and strip it a bit (the muffling) and lower the volume significantly. I do hope that Valve ultimately releases a version of the song with just the song. It'd be a dream to have the original, but anything without the sounds (like the elevator, etc) would be great. If that happens, I'll certainly upload a new version. Thank you for your thoughtful critique!
