I like Diana Krall but this sucks. Period. It sounds contrived and phony. The Bee Gees sounded better. Al Green defined this tune however. You can't half step on this. This just does not work for her. I'm sorry. It reminds me of some chick singing in a small motel on the edge of a small town in the middle of nowhere.

You've descried this version perfectly. You can be at dinner with a date, relaxing and having a conversation. The Al Green version is definitely a feeling song where you know the man is revealing his pain... or at least does a heck of a job of expressing someone else's lol. Since I love having dinner with my wife, the Krall version is enjoyable as well.

Well, i think she "plays" the song very well, but Al Green.... Al Green "performs" this song as he was indeed a broken man, you can feel the sorrow in his voice, dammit you can feel the sorrow yourself!!... with this Diana version you can be eating dinner in a fancy restorant while talking to your date, her music in the background... but with Al Green version you can´t help but to listen to his pain, no talking, no dinner, just the sad in his soul.

@Progresshiv is not that i don´t get it, i like this version too, but not as i like the Al Green version. Don´t really know how to express it, but the Diana version sounds to me as someone talking about the sorrow he/she felt in his/her past, feeling sad, but knowing it´s in the past. The Al Green version sounds to me like someone living in the sorrow, and by what the lyrics says, i find the al Green performance more suitable than the Diana version.

@l30r1c yep, i agree with you... that's actually why i own this cd... so i can play a chic background when somebody's visiting or while a dinner. she expresses no deep emotions whatsoever, so she's perfect to keep in the back of any gathering.

please, I don't want people to missunderstandme, she sings fine -i mean, yeah, i like her very much! But I30r1 is right, her feelings are not Al Green's...!
