If this piece was converted to generated electricity from the movement of the metal ball through a wire coil, and the amount of electricity generated was enough to run the motor which powers the piece, wouldn't it be a perpetual motion machine?
@threnodyofcrows If you take the time to learn a little bit about thermodinamics, you will easy understand that what you consider is just impossible., You can NEVER get the enough amount of energy to drive the machine you're taken the energy from!
That little fella that worked with the professor that came on during the Bullwinkle show? All he ever did was whisper to the professor, although clearly the superior intelect. That may be kind of a leap, but I'll agree. I'd hate to see this machine wasted on something like making electricity. it should be used for something that would benefit mankind, like stiring margaritas, or operating a conveyor belt that would bring beers from the fridge.
Wow, wish i had seen this about 4 months ago! i recently built a similar motioned automata for my 3rd year university project. i'll get some videos of it up when i get a decent camera! fantastic. kinda goofy looking :)
In this house we follow the laws of thermo-dynamics!

The ring is made of acrylic (Plexiglass) and the rim around it is aluminum.
