Wish I owned a fully auto Tommy. But they are expensive and my local sheriff does not sign off on machine guns. Well I have the Tommy semi auto pistol with 50 round drum that was reintroduced a couple of years ago. It is nice and you can bump fire it to get the bullets out fast. There is a guy that posted a good video on Youtube of bump firing a Tommy. You can fire as fast as fully auto if you practice.
I have no idea exactly what the hell you are refering to. Sure you can shoot full auto on the tommy for a full clip if you want, but I promise you thier is no grouping and half the shots are way off target. How do I know.....because I shot both...have any of you?!
@stuka 1939 like i said look up thompsons shooting on you tube you will find that trained people can shoot a thompson just as good/controlled as a mp40 and it will have better stoppage power and rpm and just be as acurate as the mp40
I've shot the MP-40 and the Thompson many, many times over the years, and natually the MP-40 is a more stable weapon system, however, if the shooter knows how to handle a Thompson, its easily as accurate as the MP-40, only it has a much higher fire rate, and has the .45 round.
Every gun has recoil, but recoil on this gun is just rediculous...even with the compensator. No way in hell you can shoot the tommy continuous full auto. I'd prefer the Russian PPSH41or the MP40. Allies in WW2 would swap out thier Tmmies for the German MP40 and the Germans would swap out thier MP40s for the Russian PPSH41.
Crude?! The MP40 was lightweigth, made entirely of stamped metal and composites, cheap to produce and quickly machined, had a fodling stock which made it ideal for the fallschirmjager and house to house combat and it was very reliable. The Americans copied the design and produced the Grease Gun; an merican weapon that was made of stamped metal, had a folding stock...OMG...just like the German MP40. It did however still use .45 cal rounds.
@stuka1939 yes crude, to simply stamp a gun out of metal is pretty crude, however it is cost effective. the grease gun was crude but cost affective. the tommy was well crafted smooth and looked great, now when it comes down to it the grese gun was less crude than the mp40 wich lacked a damn saftey other than the bolt lock back, it had no selective fire. crude man, sorry if this is a rant ive been up for like 25 hours straight
Smooth and looks great?! Who cares if it looks great? Other than the stopping power of the .45 acp round the thompson had nothing more to offer. It was heavy, not as reliable and had poor grouping. Who cares about looks. I don't know if you have ever served in the military, but when your in the hot zone the safety in never on. True, though the MP40 has no selective fire, the MP30 bursts can be controlled to double and even single bursts. My girlfriend can shoot single bursts on my friends MP40.
yes sorry about not being clear, looks mean nothing, and crude does not allwas mean bad, im just saying that the thompson was not simply thrown together and it had slective fire features and the bolt locked closed when the last round was fired. simply saying it was more sophisticated. and early on with bad instruction the mp40 jamed up alot due to troop mis-use of the mag as a grip.
this argument on the mp40 n thompson is almost the same as the ak47 and the m16, it comes down to prefrence
@stuka1939 yah she can shoot groupings because its a 9mm. also it had a higher rate of Fire and was more sturdy than the mp40 also heavy is good sometimes for controlling recoil and hitting some with your gun you probably couldn't hit someone to good with a mp40
This will be my last post because I'm bored of responding to retards who get their education from video games and Steven Speilberg movies and not books and actual experience. As a gun collector and reenector I have shot nearly every gun from WW1 and WW2. If you think the Americans won the war because of the Thompson you need to get your ass back in school and off your XBOX 360. The Russian PPSh 41 filled the role of the sub machine gun the best. It was robust, high round capacity and small.
Sure you can shoot full auto....if want to send rounds into the tree tops. Have you shot the tommy? Well, when you do come back and make another post, Yes, it was a cool gun and it has a rich history...but it's not the GREATEST gun ever. IT's a great gun, but i think we are dealing with bias and not knowledge, experience and military application. When you have shot all of the submachien guns from WW2, which I have (including the rare Riesling) , then make a comparison.
@stuka1939 yes you can shoot a thompson full auto with a compensator just look it up on you tube and also WITH the 100 rd drum which your mp40 DID'nT have it was very controllable!
The compensator only works so well. Just watch the video on this very page. The guy is shooting all over the place after 4 rounds. Yes, the Thompson had advantages, but it was not the best submachine gun. There is not one modern submachine gun that is made to be heavy and long. That defeats the desing of a submachine gun. There are war accounts of American GIs tossing there Tommies for MP40s and Germans tossing their MP40s for Russian PPSh 41s. Open damn history book and read!
nice, i was actually thinking about getting a tommy gun but i dont have that kind of money. my gun shop sells one for about $1000 but i think they sold it already, hopefully im going back soon, i need to get ammo.

That's called recoil, and that's a problem with every gun.
Especially automatics.
It's not really a problem. But EVERY gun has at least a little recoil.
V8Camaro22 2 years ago 7
no shit..
prodigywashere 2 years ago
Uhm dude,
why are you talking like you knew that.
You said in your old comment "The only problem with this gun is that it goes up when you fire"
or something along those lines. I was simply telling you it wasn't just that gun.
V8Camaro22 2 years ago
I know what recoil is
prodigywashere 2 years ago
@V8Camaro22 yes, or you could not kill ur enemy.

That's why you put a compensator on the muzzle.

Did you build the violin-case (Min. 1:03) by yourself?
For my own "Chicago Typewriter", i got an old violin-case at eBay and modiefied it. It looks very similar to the one in your video.
