Shel Silverstein definitely CAN be interpreted as light and happy or dark and melancholic. That's why he is so cherished, because his writing is deep and insightful. Art is up for interpretation. Experimentation breeds art and so I have no qualms with this piece
It almost has a child-like nightmare effect.
It would better span differing interpretations of 'Nobody' if the end was left a little less sinister. But nobody likes to pander.
I'm afraid I might have to agree with Karaterobot a bit. Even at max volume for both Youtube and my laptop, using headphones, I still couldn't quite hear what was being said. :( Is there a different, slightly louder version I could listen to?
Was it necessary to attribute the dialogue if you can't even hear it? This would be a good video if you built on your idea and cleaned it up a little bit. I love Shel (and yes, he IS dark) and how your reading screws with people who loved him as kids. I just want to hear it better.
I definently didn't appreciate it. And the shitty thunder effect. Oh jeez, Shel is supposed to be happy. Haven't you ever seen the illustrations in the book. OH MAN! You blew it buddy!
wtf?

reminds me of while coming down the stairs I meet a man that wasn't there, he wasn't there again today, I wish, I wish he'd go away.

I agree, Shel was by no means supposed to be "happy" I dig the experiment, man... keep it up. Next on the Block - Maurice Sendak!

Shel Silverstein isn't "supposed to be happy". Check out the stuff he did for Playboy. Absofuckingbilliant.
