  • Awesome Scott !!! Met you up in the Bay Area and you turned me on to Ron Ziebart !

  • Hey that's at mars!!

  • This guy's coming to our high school February 3rd. Our instructor is best friends with him :)

  • left-handed finger roll @1:36 omg wtf. Whatup Scott??? ;)

  • someone teach me how to do 1:47-1:50 D: PLZ.

  • 1:46

  • The greatest snare battle ever would be Jeff Queen v. Scott Johnson

    Who agrees?

  • Ratta-tat-tat dat ass

  • CHRIST!

  • I would say this is sped up film if I didn't know Scojo is secretly a robot. Yeah, thats right Mr. Johnson I know your secret ;)

  • old school technique!!!!!!!!!!!the best!!!!!!!

  • It is the same solo from 82'..its called Ultimation.

  • what sticks is he using?

  • @eddytheyeti2 Vic Firth Scott Johnsons. they're discontinued now because the Blue Devils switched to Pro-Mark in 2008. but now they're known as the Vic Firth MS5

  • @TheDrummingAsian okay, i wasn't sure. i have the promark and vic firth scott johnsons.

  • lollll i noticed is was fake and im stoned.... that makes this video... A FAIL

  • 1:46 is freakin' awesome !

  • he should play a solo at i&e

  • @ajcf1995 He did... like twenty five years ago.

  • some of the best sounding flams i have ever heard :)

  • scott johnson is inhuman

  • fake its fast forwarded look at leaves on trees you can tell its fake

  • @drumperson42 You're clearly an idiot, do you even know who Scott Johnson is?

  • @drumperson42 do you know who scott johnson? oh you dont ? well let me fill you in who he is

scott holds one of the best drumlines in the world you fucking serious you think what he does is fake? what are you 12?he has a tint snare witch means a high tap sound not fast worwarded

  • @drumperson42 WTF are you talking about? How is it "fake". The leaves are moving on the trees because the wind is blowing. Jesus.

  • @drumperson42

well, clearly you're a troll. and that is not fake.

  • @drumperson42 you are cleary a fucking retard

  • @drumperson42 You're right. This is a fake. No way could he play the same exact solo the he played for I&E in 1982. Surely camera tricks are needed.

    Quit smoking bath salts.

  • ORGASMIC

  • how do you get a snare to sound that buetiful?

  • 5 Blue Devil cuts dislike this

  • bad technique mr johnson im dissapointed in you

  • I met Scott last night at the DCI Allentown show. what a class act! he took time out of his busy schedule to sign a pair of scojos for me and take pics with me and my friend

  • @itsamesupermario If I was him, I would have pointed to the signature printed on the stick and been like "Done". xD

  • Scott Johnson for President 2012!!!! And 2016!!!! and 2020! and 2024! and 2028! and 2032!!!

    WOOOO!!!

  • That snare sounds sexy

  • you can tell it was sped up at 0:30 because the trees sway slow then speed up when his hands do. but he's still a beast. uploaders fault

  • @qgoode1013 its called the wind?

  • i cant take him seriously with that hat turned backwards lol

  • scott!!!!!give us a chance sir...this is just unfair..

  • @drumerboy175 Agreed. though that one doesn't articulate very well...

  • God, what the fuck. He shouldn't be able to do that anymore....

  • i heard he won I&E his Final year in Corps just for showing up

  • amf i like that snare sounds goooooooooooooood....hoping my snare sounds like that ^_^.....

  • Man that drum sounds great. I wish they had ever tuned BD's snareline like that, sounds a lot like what Rennick does at Phantom. It's nice when a snare drum sounds like a snare drum.

  • @ctdjazz false. Just because a drum is tuned up to where YOU don't like it personally doesn't mean it no longer sounds like a snare drum.

  • @Tenorsarefun You're going to listen to that drum, then one tuned more like what's common, and tell me this doesn't sound more snare-y than anything else? That's a little ridiculous. I'm not saying this is inherently better than any other tuning style, Phantom's snares just happen to sound amazing.

And YES, good sir. Tenors ARE fun.

  • @ctdjazz I believe that the tuning in this video sounds much wetter than what we as listeners are used to hearing in the modern corps. style drumline. I don't however agree that this sounds anymore like a snare than a drum that's tuned with a dryer, more articulate sound in mind. I'm very curious as to how you came up with what a marching snare drum is "supposed to" sound like, as if any one tuning is correct or incorrect. How am I the one being ridiculous when your opinion is clearly biased...

  • @Tenorsarefun I'd appreciate it if you'd stop putting words in my mouth. I never said a drum was "supposed to" sound like anything. It's NICE to hear a drum tuned like this. Nowhere in there did I say that it is not nice to hear drums tuned in different ways.

Do we really live in a world where you can't compliment something without someone jumping on you reminding you that it's just your opinion? I can't believe I'm having to defend myself for enjoying the way a drum sounds.

    I'm finished.

  • @ctdjazz if you listen to the phantom snares up close and individually, they sound like shit. But once you're on the sidelines and they're all playing together...damn.

Perhaps that's why this snare sounds so wet. just playing by his self.

  • what top head is he using and what side head is he using

  • With a sound like this, why did they even go to pearl!???

  • Wow he makes Dynasty sound good haha.

  • Sounds like a tribute to his 1977 solo for i&e "revenge". Look it up on his page.

  • ...wow.

  • Scojo is awesome :) whatta inspiration!

  • He came and teched our winter percussion for a day cuz our band teacher marched with him in '76

  • this is scojo's 1982 solo played in 2008...its awesome that he can still play that...something to show your kids--daddy STILL can play !!!

  • scojo for president of the united states of america

  • 0:06 BULLSHIT!!!

  • @KC816KC How? Do you think it's impossible or something? Its something called Chops. Its what happens when you play drums for hella long.

  • @TheDrummingAsian Thank you captain fuckin obvious. It's called admiration, something I'm pretty sure no one has showed you. Ya fuckin troll.

  • @KC816KC you must be a noob

  • @300kike STFU.. I get sick of people replying on this comment. I was saying Bullshit because I was showing admiration ya faggot!!

  • speechless. now why cant his drum section well other than ralph nader cant p[lay like that? scott johnson is probably the only person in DCI who actully shows feelings aggression and emotion when he plays. i would like to see him march with a HBCU drumline

  • i wish i could play traditional now:(

  • @unliborator Then learn. Duh.

  • @HyphyPercussion try this: 2000 Cavies 2001 Cadets 2002 Cadets 2003 Cadets 2004 SCV 2005 Cadets 2006 Phantom 2007 BD 2008 Phantom 2009 BD 2010 Phantom if you actually look at the scores they're really inconsistent..dont get me wrong, theyre good players, theyre just over hyped
  • got 3in taps? or maybe some left wrist rotation? he's a very skilled man though...

  • Even if Scott wasn't affiliated with a Corps, he's a god on a snare..

  • @LAKings101 Dude, all i'm saying is that I dont believe that BD has had a single year where they didnt win high percussion. Save for 2006. Saying that they aren't talented is just complete idiocy.

  • ScoJo is talented. His drumline.....not so much.

  • @jlwtformer did you just say that the blue devils drumline isn't talented?

  • @LAKings0101 Yes. They are good, but not holy fucking shit they must be gods amazing.

  • @jlwtformer Your first comment said that his drumline is not so talented. I would just like to let you know that if that is in fact what you believe, I feel sorry for you, and your distorted understanding of talent.

  • @LAKings0101 Look at you, talking like you know shit. And just remind me, where do you get this info? Cause I'm pretty sure judge taps don't lie buddy.

  • @jlwtformer Where do I get my information regarding the talent of the Blue Devils drumline? Well I was taught in high school by their current snare tech, and I have actually drummed with a couple of the Blue Devils snare drummers. I have seen them live, and I saw them on the field in Lucas Oil Stadium for finals in 2010. I used the senses that God gave me. I used my eyes, ears, and reasonable intelligence to come to the conclusion that the Blue Devils are talented guys.

  • @jlwtformer Oh and I don't know if judge TAPS lie, but the tapes don't. Count how many times in the 2009 tape the word perfection was used. There wasn't a tick called out until the last thirty seconds of the second movement. I'm not saying there wasn't better on the field for finals that night, but to say the Blue Devils don't have talent is just incredible.

  • @LAKings0101 Wow, you are just like every othe rspoiled bratt that likes BD! NO ONE CARES! Seriously, it took you two comment boxes to say that? Get the pickle out of your ass and learn to take some shit.

  • @jlwtformer I am neither spoiler nor a brat. I do enjoy some BD beats, but I do realize that there are others out there that are better. At what point does the BD fanboy excuse become obsolete. Im a drum corps fanboy, and they bring a lot to the table. I like that.

  • @LAKings0101 Look at you, talking like you know shit. And just remind me, where do you get this info? Cause I'm pretty sure judge tapes don't lie buddy.

  • DIRT!!! JK great job Scott. You were one of my first inspirations to learn snare and play in indoor drumline. Thanks for being so cool!

  • 1:30 made me jizz

  • imagine trying to transcribe the first 30 secs!

ScoJo is a legend...believe what you want, but its a fact.

  • im at loss of words... he never ceases to amaze me...

  • it looks like they speeded up the video

  • @DejaV60 you must be a noob HAHAHAHA. sped up? it's called skill.

  • @300kike i didnt say they did speed it up dumb butt so dont call me a noob...because you'll get some words u dont like :/ i kno wht skill is...just cuz i didnt say skill in my comment means nothing

  • @pr192001

Psssshhhhh!!!! Scott Johnson CREATED the legend status!!!!! :)

  • *click* hhhhhhaaaaaaaa :D

  • What two idiots didn't like this video?

  • @renkupmiba Travis Barker fans

  • Like a guitar player, playing fast isn't all there is. Playing with feeling, dynamics and taste are much more a show of someone's talent. Yeah, he has chops, but you only need to watch one video like this and the rest look all the same.

  • Is that... Is that ScoJo with an... an OPENED FULCRUM???

  • He is up there with ralph in the legend status

  • Damn that's some crazy ass precision and everything. Not gonna lie though, I prefer jazz and drumset playing.

  • Debate: Dynasty snares or Pearl snares?

  • @sundimond9252 For me it's Pearl

  • oops - it was LAST year's. Damn! Hey Scott - comin' back THIS year?

  • Nice. Can't wait to see it live. Is that the old Buddy Rich Stick Trick that Shaunessy also surprised Rich with on the Carson show one night?

  • His chops don't even make sense.

  • 07 snare

  • What...the...fuck....

  • He needs to start the Percussion Party and run for President!!

  • 1:46 best part

  • @TheMer94 yeah, when he plays the sticks by themselves it's pretty BA

  • OMG i just jizzed in my pants!!!

  • I just creamed my pants.

  • theres nothing more orgasmic then watching S.J play a snare solo. nothing comes close to a dynasty in pure sound.

  • any1 what head is on that drum??

  • @sanantonioskates If i had to guess.. I would say Remo Kevlar but that is just a guess.. Don't hold me to it..

  • @shwn91 yea thats what i was thinking but i was just trying to make sure ha thanks

  • i would give anything in the world to be able to play like him

  • @drummaboi1423 me too!!!

  • Anyone know what brand and size stick he's using?

  • @PhantomDrums917 vic firth ssj corpsmasters, his signature sticks

  • @omnirev Thanks!!

  • @PhantomDrums917 most likely promark system blues, hes sponsored by them

  • That snare drum is as tight as your mama's va-hoo-hoo!

  • this is insane. 1:47 to 1:51 is epic. if you dont speak stick, the sticks were saying 'suck it, this is beast.'

  • scojo is the best to me

  • To bad it's not in HD.

  • @dls0237 nigga u stupid if u think its sped up

  • @dls0237 No dude the Concord Blue Devils dont speed up, and try to find The Ditty then tell me its sped up man hah.

  • @dls0237 Pay more attention dude, if it was sped up the trees would be moving faster than normal and nothing would look normal. Your just an inexperienced person who really has no idea who Scott Johnson is besides knowing his name. Get lost. No real percussionist would say that hes fake as @minimeiskool explained.

  • @dls0237 fail at life.

  • i can haz sheet music?

  • @iSecksYou its a solo dude haha

  • what heads is he using?

  • he using his sticks

  • Why is he god in the form of a drummer?

  • definitely admire this man, and it sounds great. but damn he looks so awkward. haha. getting old.

  • That drum sounds like he's drumming on a rock. Other than that, its good......i guess

  • that drum sounds Hella Badass!

  • HOw do you do that thing at 1:48?

  • 0:05 - 0:12

no change in pitch...thats control right there...

    holy fuck

  • I love that snare. ScoJo is a beast.

  • I just noticed something, this is the same solo ScoJo played in 1982!!! It sounds wayy better on a kevlar headed drum.

  • HOLY SHIT!!!!! Nice lol.

  • yes yes he is at mars you are wuite correct lol

    i love that place

  • Comment removed

  • mr.johnson u are a beast sir!!!

  • i hate that place, he's at mars

  • Except for Gary of course.

  • All you guys need to shut your faces! That's Scott Johnson!

  • its awesome how scott johnson can be a really good snare line player but with the dynamic skills of a concert player

  • am I the only one who doesn't like the tuning of this drum? it sounds too mylaresque...if you want it to sound like a mylar head, then use a mylar head

  • it may just be the sound recording of the camera, but i agree

  • I don't think this was sped up. Check out Scott Johnson at PASIC 2008. He was playing this the same speed to me. Besides that I hope I can play that fast when I'm his age.

  • OK Kholt. I dont know where you think that this has been sped up .. i posted this video and i did no sort of video adjustment.. .. so believe what you want

  • @garybd2 when a sound clip is sped up the sound becomes higher. The same goes when it's slowed down, the sound becomes lower. Go listen to his "live" PASIC performance...the snare has the same tone/note of this snare. Therefore, this clip could not have been sped up.

  • @garybd2 for real. anyone who doesnt think scott johnson can play this is obviously not a percussionist.

  • Scotty J. is a living legend. But the only sad part about THIS video is that, is sped up only about .01 percent more than the original. But please, before you become say some asshole comment, pull your head out of your ass, and look and the leaves and drumsticks falling slightly faster towards the ground.

No DOUBT though, that scotty J. Doesn't need to be sped up at all because he can play like that.

  • I must agree.

  • I love the clicks at 1:47

  • ScoJo is definitely my hero. (no pun intended)

  • That wasn't a pun.

  • He has a lick called hero. It was a pun.

  • That's still not a pun.

  • snare sounds beautiful

  • he probably played this once and was ready for pasic

  • ah...my warm up ; P

  • thats one solo you gotta have some 'hands' to get through.

  • my goodness sco jo is the shit

  • scott johnson is a legend

  • Love the snare sound!

  • Do you march Cadets?

  • scott johnson?

  • Blue Devils Drum instructor.

  • i know.

i thought you were talkin about scott on that last comment

  • HAHAHAHAHA

  • turn your back a walk away kid
