Luther is the only one I know that could take someonelse's song beat the mess out of them with it. Then sell it and go platinum. That man's gift was unmatched. Imagine if sung a gospel with someone like Shirley Ceasar.
How can anyone even try to compare the two lionel's is a studio cut and luther's is live you cannot even begin to compare them they both have trult amazing vioces why do we even want to
JUST enjoy the beauty of each of them R.I.P. Luther you are missed
@funjonny21 LIONEL RICHIE is a SONGWRITER first, and a vocalist 2nd, which he will admit in interviews. In the early days of the Commodores, he didn't even want to sing lead vocals, but the record label insisted that he share front man status with Walter Orange, because they thought his light-skinned look would attract more mainstream appeal.
LUTHER VANDROSS was one of the greatest balladeers of all time, and this is his strong suit, not songwriting, arranging, or singing fast tunes.
@Visionary0001 i agree somewhat with your opinion, i would debate the fact that luther was not a great songwriter??? just look at his credits history! arranging was his forte and probably what he loved doing best,, fast songs no, was not his strongest thing, balladeer yes! no better a vocalist have i ever heard ever,
I have to agree..... Lionel is a great singer. But Luther gives me goosebumps on top of goosebumps. Always have and always will. Luther isn't having problems with the song, he just makes it his own.
@johnmcgrath6827a He probably coulden't hit the note now - but he could when he was in his prime in the late 70's early 80's. It's funny how people connect to diffrent vocal styles. Luther is a better singer technically, however, his voice still seems to leave me cold!!!!
Both have been gifted with amazing vocals. Lionel has smoother vocals than Luther but Luther can carry off those falsettos... like MY! MY! I love them singing this classic! the best!
No way is he better - Watch how simply Lionel sings this and sounds great. Luther has to improvise notes and project his voice louder to sound good. Lionel is easliy a more natural gifted singer.
@truthwar333 Hahahahaha! Your comment made me laugh. Likes of singing is purely subjective, but I think just about anyone would agree that Luther has a much more dynamic and "naturally gifted" voice. Lionel is amazing, but come on... there is just no comparison to Luther. I'm still laughing.
I am in love with song... R.I.P Luther!
