You really should take some basic geography lessons before you go on with some history lessons. Of course the British fought the Japanese, but after Pearl Harbour british naval forces in the Pacific were minuscule to the might of the Japanese fleet and the best they could muster was a task force of one Battleship and one Battlecruiser they send to Singapore. They certainly could not do anything about Hawaii thousends of kilometeres away from Singapore. Even that went badly.
@lucius1976 I'm not going on about history lessons? I'm unsure because I was never taught this side of the war. We managed to send ships back and forth to Australia, why not Hawaii? And British ships in the pacific held off Japanese naval fleets in certain areas, so their navy could not have been that overshadowing over British.
..Ugh... Okay. They fought against the japanese in Burma, India and the Pacific. Got it!? And no, the british had no bases in Hawaii, that area was in american possesion. Nice to learn a little history here and there.
Please note a small correction regarding British Lt General Arthur Percival, who died at the age of 78 on 31 January 1966, in King Edward VII's Hospital for Officers, Beaumont Street in Westminster, and was buried in Hertfordshire. Leonard Wilson, formerly the Bishop of Singapore, gave the address at his memorial service, which was held in St Martin-in-the-Fields. Arthur Percival retired from the British army in 1946, clearly he made great efforts in the defence of Mayala & Spore Island

Being british, this documentary is biased. The Japanese had 36 000 men and the british had 85 000. The japanese won by reckless courage and bluffing that they had more men that they really did. If the british had not surrendered, the japanese would have lost. The documentary is deliberately avoiding to mention this degree of british incompetence and indiciveness.
This is a scandal for history telling. Just because the documentary is british, it still must be objective. It isn't.
@askjiir Attacked by the Forces of evil " The Empire of Japan " who had the belief they could in the long term defeat a White Christian Army , either British, American and Empire ( Australian ) forces. They were mistaken Asian arrogance ended on the in Tokyo Bay, as they bowed like beaten dogs. God Bless America and the forces of the free world. Get that into you TOJO.
which documentary were you watching ? it pours blame on all those in the British high command who allowed this to happen through incompetence poor planning and underestimating of the Japanese. There is nothing factually incorrect about anything in this program aside from the fate of the British General so i fail to see how this is a "scandal". British and Empire troops fought bravely in this battle and the japanese will tell you that to, they were simply let down by many things.
If they had fought bravely, they would have fought to the last man and to the last bullet like the japanese did in every campaign from tarrawa to okinawa. With that kind of dedication they would have kept Signapore.
@askjiir There is a difference between bravery and brainwashed stupidity, and how you fight doesent really matter if you don't have any water to stay alive

Wow I didn't know British forces ever encountered Japanese forces? So does that mean the United Kingdom helped to protect Hawaii?

We really have to admire our elders. Living through the Great Depression and then having to fight a violent war like this, WOW talk about gumption.

Having more men doesn't matter if they can't coordinate, if they don't have air support, or if they don't have supplies.
