I paid $8,000 for one of these. It has spent most of the time I have owned it in the shop due to a series of malfunctions. A pet peeve is that for $8K you don't get an on/off switch; you have to plug it in and unplug it. Another issue is that if a child puts his whole hand on it it goes haywire. It also needs to be restarted frequently because it crashes a lot (even when no one puts a whole hand on it). This product is definitely NOT ready for prime time.
I'm in Grade 6 and we have a SMART Board... I think we're the only school in all of BC to have one! Maybe. I think they're saving up to buy one of these things too...
En México en las escuelas La Salle del Estado de México, cada salón cuenta con los SmartBoards, son una maravilla para la educación. Han revolucionado la forma en que los profesores impartimos clases. Felicidades por este nuevo desarrollo.
there are currently only a few of these tables made. The full version of the SMART Table has not been developed as of yet. But you can expect to see them becoming available in the near future to paying customers
Though perhaps not practical for every classroom one in this bleak economic climate, it is a great direction for the near future in terms of making collaborative learning exciting. If learning can be compelling as playing NHL 09 on a PlayStation and Xbox360, think of the possibilities for our next generation.
This will eventually be in every school, but its cost must come down drastically. In its present format and its cost I don't see many takers, but once its price is affordable I am sure all kids will be having many big "iPhones" in their classes.
Artphanto, it is not that expensive and I'm sure some schools could get grants or fund raise to get the money. I would play a roll to get it in my childs classroom and most people would too I bet :)
As incredible of a tool this is, I don't see many schools purchasing this with budgets so tight-teachers are barely able to get the essentials like paper and pencils. Good luck selling the Smart Table in this economy-it is great, but who will fork over the cash?
i like your video pretty awesome =)) keep it up

I dunno if this is so great for kids... Sometines, it's better for them to use papers, pencils, scissors and books so they can develop more skills.

As a principle I totally agree with you. A Smart table (or any tech-thing) should never replace. As an adittion I think it's great! :)

What an incredible tool for the kids ( and the teachers) to be involved in. It really puts hands-on learning in the fast lane.

I can see the little ones in a Montessori classroom integrating this easier than even the computers
