  • Just Cool...

  • When it comes to blues played on a chromatic harmonica, George Harmonica Smith is THE king, THE MAN. Notice to all you harp gear freaks, he's playing straight thru the PA and his tone is totally off the charts!!!

  • i had an orgasm

  • very cool!

  • AWW George Smith. What an influence he was to so many harmonica players, including my late husband William Clarke,. And I knew him personally, he was my son's godfather. This is absolutely great. Thanks so much for posting this video.

    Jeannette Clarke

  • @jlodovici Hello Jeannette I was introduced to William's music through a friend or his....do you remember...Keith Packer, his wife Annemarie and her son Mike?

  • @jlodovici Your husband was a tad special too.

  • First time I saw George was in '71 at the Golden Bear in HB. A pretty young Rod Piazza had opened with Juicy Harmonica and blew the audience away. Then, this tall black guy comes out and ripped everyone a new one. God George had me awestruck. His style and precision and showmanship were second to none. I can see where Rod picked up some of his style. RIP, George. I hope heaven has a Chromatic 512 for you.

  • GOOD Ol' "HERR SCHMIDT"! If it wasn't for him, I wouldn't be playing harp today. I was 17, leaning outside of the Boston Tea Party on a car with him, but I didn't know it WAS him. If I only had mentioned that I was interested in playing harp....AHHHHHHHHH-"IF" is the biggest word in the English language. IF I could kick my own ass, I would. BUT--hindsight is always 40-40.

  • I thought this was Bacon Fat, but without Rod?

Gunsmoke Blues is a great DVD for anyone that has not yet seen it. Muddy, Joe Turner, Big Mama Thorton, and George Smith. There are some great interviews along with the wonderful performances.

  • Isn't this Bacon Fat without Rod Piazza? Gunsmokee Blues is a great DVD for anyone that has never seen it, Muddy, Big Joe Turner, Big Mama Thorton just great stuff, and some nice interviews too!

  • Can really tell where Rod Piazza got most of his Chromatic stuff from.

  • Pure GOLD! Thank you!!!! Just awesome

  • old is gold

  • This is great. I've been looking for this since it disappeared from youtube last year. How do I get this video?

  • You can get it on Amazon , its called Gunsmoke blues

  • Thanks so much. Oh man I just love George. He reaches into parts of me that most players can't even come close to. Being a harp player myself I can't understand the lack of material and notoriety he receives.

  • The band =Bacon Fat

  • Methinks the BAND deserves some Credits, too?

  • I have no idea who the band is ??? Got any ideas ???

  • big brother and the holding co?

    (not sure)

    Pocket! My Man!!! xxxxx

  • OK damnit...I'm really pissed now!

Pissed because I don't have this great footage that is!!! haahaa...Thanks Scotty...

You da Man! I got the 1971 Muddy stuff

with George from Oregon...but not this!

  • beautiful teebee! more, more, more! mr. smith has been a hero of mine since i "discovered" him about 11 years ago. his influence on ALL the west coast swing harpmen is so obvious.

i heard a cut on blues radio, him doing an instrumental of "i left my heart in san fransisco" which near made me cry it was so sweet and beautiful.

for just plain great music you can't beat george. for inspiration if you're a harp player, you can't beat him either.

  • ...tremendous....I've looked before myself and could never find anything on George at all...thanks to the poster...that's a great public service there..!!

  • I won't get mad! Thanks -he's my fave.

  • Wow! Thank you so much! George is my harmonica hero! If you have another cuts with George, please, upload them! ^:) Thank you again!

  • OHH man ,now thats some mean ole blues right there ;-) thats my kinda groove, NICE and SLOW! loveit, love it,love it!. hear that voice too!

  • One of the best nights I saw George was at Babe & Ricks with Hollywood Fats when Fats was just starting out and still had his long hair. They just tore the place up !

  • Fantastic!
