I was a 7 year old boy and Destroyer was my very first LP... was a mega-KISS fan 'til about '80, or so. I sort of outgrew them or they lost their flare (for me) right around the release of "Unmasked".
I still love all their greatest hits though. Oh!--With the Melbourne Symphany Orchestra is great too. (I used to play brass--Trumpet, trombone and euphonium.) Seems to bring out a whole new side of them. Don't cha think?
I remember going to see them play at Magic Mountain in '78. It was for the filming of "Kiss meets the phantom of the park" They did the same "Love Gun" set they did the Year before. After they did the set, they played for many hours after. I left at midnite as Paul kept saying "Alright Love Gun!" Unfortunately I told all my friends & family to watch the movie and I was so laughed at that week! Then came 79 kisco was born. Not a good time to be a Kiss fan. 1980-81, very bad time to be a Kiss fan

I like this arrangement better than the big orchestral one on Destroyer...It probably wouldn't have been as big of a hit like this, but nonetheless very nice. They should have done it like this live.
Was at my grandma's as a kid when this was on, so had to sneak away from company and watch it downstairs. It rocked! I think Beth's a great song, because it's real. The story to the song is totally believable, human, and touching. Sure hope they put the movie out on a re-mastered DVD some day.

Kiss was falling apart during this movie. This was filmed in the spring of 1978 and aired later in the year in October. 1978 was a year spent mostly off the road, doing this movie, and then doing solo albums for a September 78 release. The movie was the result of too much ego and overhype from Kiss. The movie made them look like cheeseballs, far from the heavy metal band who did Kiss Alive! a few years prior. Kiss wasn't happy with the movie.

Hell even the people at my high school who hated KISS loved that record. But years later when GENE had made all his money and he had all his, "New" kiss fans, he told the real story behind that album. Beth, es un diminutivo del nombre Elizabeth; si no me equivoco. Pero en realidad, ese tema lo compuso con un gran amigo, Stan Penridge, y se llamaba "Beck", que se convertiría en "Beth" en la era KISS.
El tema en un principio iba a llamarse "Beck", ya que tiene su origen en una chica conocida por Peter que llevaba ese apodo, y que constantemente llamaba a su esposo al trabajo para preguntarle cuándo volvería. Cuando Criss le mostró a Simmons la canción, este le sugirió cambiarle su título por "Beth" para evitar que se le asocie con el guitarrista Jeff Beck.
Esta cancion se llama del nombre de la amada de Peter, osea "Beth" no tiene significado es como decir como se llama la cancion de "Guadalajara" en Ingles, creo que con esto soy mas que claro; por cierto biene en el disco de "Destroyer" y es la 3ra cancion del lado B o la septima cancion en CD, todo un exito realizado en 1977 que combinados con Detroit Rock City, Shout it out loud y God Of Thunder hicieron de " Destroyer" un disco fenomenal entre ya los casicos de KISS.

I agree with you somewhat but I still think if they would have made a movie like "Rock N Roll Highschool" then it would have been awesome!.. That movie had sex, rock n roll, hot teen chicks, drug use, it was awesome!... But by 1978 KISS was in a position where a lot of young kids where comin' to their shows and they didn't want to be a bad influence, that kind of put a rift in the band, I mean Ace could only do "Snow Blind and Ozone" on his solo album, that would have never been on a KISS album.
when this movie came out. all my friends were all at home just waiting. The next day at school we could not stop talking about it. Kiss was real then. Gene just destroyed this band with his self centered ways. Yes peter and ace drank too much. Would it have killed gene and paul to let ace and peter record more songs on the albums? We loved every member of kiss. We still would have bought the albums no matter who had more songs on it. Gene was and still is a complete ass. Paul was always cool.
gene had a tough call, which I am sure he made with Paul, to save the band from members who were self destructing. you cannot allow yourself to be pulled down by someone who is fighting substance abuse. gene put the health of Kiss as a band, first and that was the right call...again I believe it was gene and paul who kept it going and we should be grateful.

Ace could write some good rockin songs back in the day, peter just had a great voice. But to peter credits, he could write and sing a good ballad. Gene just needed to let Ace and Peter have a little more solid control of things. I was a fan since 76 and i saw what happened to this band. Today gene is just lying to fill his pockets. He only cares about gene not the fans.

@KISSFAN1970 I was a Kiss fan from 74 to 2000.Couldn't find a bigger Kiss fan.I was a teenager in the 70's still got all the original posters and albums in excellent condition.Still have all the inserts and gadgets that came with the albums.I have the Kiss Alive poster on my living room wall now in a large photo frame.When Paul came out in 2000 and said that if the original fans didn't like it they didn't need them anymore.They had a group of new fans that's when they lost me.

Yeah, it's just make-up. Paul and Gene proved that when they thought they could just slap Peter and Ace's greasepaint on anyone. That's why it lacks any magic. Back in the 70's, when the make-up meant something, it had a magic to it. You couldn't just put Gene, Ace or Peter's make-up on anyone. That would have been unthinkable to any Kiss fan prior to 1980, even Eric Carr invented a new one, it was so obvious you couldn't just put the Catman on anyone.
@waterbongcritic Back in the 70's it was magical because no one knew what they really looked like & back then KISS was fresh,in their prime & one of the most popular bands in the world.To replace a member back then would have been virtually impossible.By 1979/1980 they lost their edge,lost Peter & eventually lost Ace a couple years later. Eric Carr was a great replacement,had cool makeup & was accepted by the fans.Sadly most fans moved on to other bands by this point.The magic was fading.

@waterbongcritic The sad part about KISS was they were mostly lies from the beginning. KISS alive was one of the best live records ever in the 70's. Hell even the people at my high school who hated KISS loved that record. But years later when GENE had made all his money and he had all his, "New" kiss fans, he told the real story behind that album. It was overdubbed in the studio by the band to mahe it all sound perfect. Totoal B/S for a guy like me who was a fan since 76. Total B/S

Im going to go see KISS very soon. they are my very favorite band and always will be . i know everything about them/. to tell you the truth im not as exited as i ought to be. thats because. it really bums me hearing tommy singing shcok me or eric singing beth. its just not the same. KISS will always be suffering a big deep hole in their carreer without peter or ace. Long live KISS! The real KISS....

Beth, es un diminutivo del nombre Elizabeth; si no me equivoco. Pero en realidad, ese tema lo compuso con un gran amigo, Stan Penridge, y se llamaba "Beck", que se convertiría en "Beth" en la era KISS.

El tema en un principio iba a llamarse "Beck", ya que tiene su origen en una chica conocida por Peter que llevaba ese apodo, y que constantemente llamaba a su esposo al trabajo para preguntarle cuándo volvería. Cuando Criss le mostró a Simmons la canción, este le sugirió cambiarle su título por "Beth" para evitar que se le asocie con el guitarrista Jeff Beck.

Esta cancion se llama del nombre de la amada de Peter, osea "Beth" no tiene significado es como decir como se llama la cancion de "Guadalajara" en Ingles, creo que con esto soy mas que claro; por cierto biene en el disco de "Destroyer" y es la 3ra cancion del lado B o la septima cancion en CD, todo un exito realizado en 1977 que combinados con Detroit Rock City, Shout it out loud y God Of Thunder hicieron de " Destroyer" un disco fenomenal entre ya los casicos de KISS.

They used Pete's real voice in the advertisement for the movie, too. It aired on NBC in 78. But, the movie had the cartoon guy from Aquaman doing his voice.

Paul's hair looks like he just got out of the hair-do chair and Ace's looks like he just woke up,lol.Nobody was bigger or cooler than Kiss in the 70's.If they made that movie today with all the special effects they have now.Damn what a show it would have been.

I agree with you somewhat but I still think if they would have made a movie like "Rock N Roll Highschool" then it would have been awesome!.. That movie had sex, rock n roll, hot teen chicks, drug use, it was awesome!... But by 1978 KISS was in a position where a lot of young kids where comin' to their shows and they didn't want to be a bad influence, that kind of put a rift in the band, I mean Ace could only do "Snow Blind and Ozone" on his solo album, that would have never been on a KISS album.

when this movie came out. all my friends were all at home just waiting. The next day at school we could not stop talking about it. Kiss was real then. Gene just destroyed this band with his self centered ways. Yes peter and ace drank too much. Would it have killed gene and paul to let ace and peter record more songs on the albums? We loved every member of kiss. We still would have bought the albums no matter who had more songs on it. Gene was and still is a complete ass. Paul was always cool.

gene had a tough call, which I am sure he made with Paul, to save the band from members who were self destructing. you cannot allow yourself to be pulled down by someone who is fighting substance abuse. gene put the health of Kiss as a band, first and that was the right call...again I believe it was gene and paul who kept it going and we should be grateful.

@BloodOnTheHalo Everyone had a chance? No not at all. Gene and paul did not want Ace and Peter to get more of the credit. Ace could write some good rockin songs back in the day, peter just had a great voice. But to peter credits, he could write and sing a good ballad. Gene just needed to let Ace and Peter have a little more solid control of things. I was a fan since 76 and i saw what happened to this band. Today gene is just lying to fill his pockets. He only cares about gene not the fans.

@KISSFAN1970 No i don't although i don't like what Aerosmith did with that rap trash.That wasn't cool at all.People come and go in bands and that's the way it is.I accepted,Eric Carr,Vinnie Vincent no problem.They had their own look and style.When AC/DC continued on they didn't put a Bon Scott mask on Brian Johnson and make people who didn't know any better think it was still him.

@KISSFAN1970 Paul and Gene use this it's the charecters crap now.It's not.Look on the back of the Kiss Alive album.It says,Kiss is Peter Criss,Ace Frehley,Gene Simmons,Paul Stanley.It didn't say Kiss is the Catman,Spaceman,Starchild and so on.Original fans didn't use those names when talking about them.They used their names.That's juts a cop out for them today.They have did this shit to themselves.Get the other two a new gimmick or drop it and rock on.No problem.

@Warchief01 Look..I've been a KISS fan since I was a little kid growing up in the 70's. Have the tattoo & own the merchandise to prove it. My theory is if it doesn't bother a diehard KISS fan like myself,it shouldn't bother anyone else. People tend to forget that KISS is a rock band. They play rock music. With or without makeup & costumes it doesn't matter.To a degree I can understand some people not liking Eric & Tommy wearing Ace & Peters makeup.But at the end of the day it's just makeup.

@KISSFAN1970 I was a Kiss fan from 74 to 2000.Couldn't find a bigger Kiss fan.I was a teenager in the 70's still got all the original posters and albums in excellent condition.Still have all the inserts and gadgets that came with the albums.I have the Kiss Alive poster on my living room wall now in a large photo frame.When Paul came out in 2000 and said that if the original fans didn't like it they didn't need them anymore.They had a group of new fans that's when they lost me.

@Warchief01 I'm not in anyway bragging or trying to compete with a fellow KISS fan but I own practically every item that these guys ever put out.The albums,inserts,dolls,posters,etc.Most of my finished basement/bar is like a KISS museum.I have more professionally framed KISS posters than I do normal pictures & posters.Including the huge 52" alive poster.What Paul said in 2000 isn't cool but I would say if you still have a framed KISS poster hanging in your living room,they didn't lose you yet.

@KISSFAN1970 I know you weren't trying to brag.I just mentioned my stuff because a lot of people seem to think that i am not or was not a fan.I just have a lasting respect for what was so important to me in those days.Anything with thayer and singer on it i won't buy.I bought every album as soon as they came out but i left sonic boom on the shelf.To me it's like they cheapened evrything i collected and stood up for in the 70's.My last Kiss concert was Oct.6th 2000.Charolett NC.

Yeah, it's just make-up. Paul and Gene proved that when they thought they could just slap Peter and Ace's greasepaint on anyone. That's why it lacks any magic. Back in the 70's, when the make-up meant something, it had a magic to it. You couldn't just put Gene, Ace or Peter's make-up on anyone. That would have been unthinkable to any Kiss fan prior to 1980, even Eric Carr invented a new one, it was so obvious you couldn't just put the Catman on anyone.

@waterbongcritic Back in the 70's it was magical because no one knew what they really looked like & back then KISS was fresh,in their prime & one of the most popular bands in the world.To replace a member back then would have been virtually impossible.By 1979/1980 they lost their edge,lost Peter & eventually lost Ace a couple years later. Eric Carr was a great replacement,had cool makeup & was accepted by the fans.Sadly most fans moved on to other bands by this point.The magic was fading.

REAl kiss fans understand that tommy and eric are in kiss for the right reasons, and their musical muscle has pushed kiss' live sound to another level. the reunion tour was musically the most embarrassing, so many mistakes by ace and peter. just because you are the original doesnt mean your the best for the job !!!!

@barmtrail the reason ace and peter didnt have many songs is because they were SHIT !!!! peter's drum playing was becomming a joke and ace's guitar playing was as non professional as you can get, all the songs ace and peter brought in were rubbish and didnt sell. beth was a hit yes, but name another ace or peter song that was a hit ????? peter and ace's lack of effort and drug abuse is what ruined kiss in the late 70's

@mammo8369 I beg to differ sir, Ace and Peter played very well on all albums up to rock n roll over. If you are going to compare them to eric singer and bruce kulick, then i agree. But in the 70's peter and ace were exactly what kiss needed. Their style of playing was very unique. Sadly too much booze started to control Ace and Peter. Gene has been and always will be about Gene. He lies to the kiss fans at all cost just to sell tickets to the concerts. Jew yorkers all the way.

@barmtrail dont forget ace was replaced on some songs on destroyer, and on most songs of bside kiss alive 2. sure they had a unique style, but they never blossomed. they could only do one thing one way, and that got dull after awhile.
gene doesnt lie to the fans, he never admitted what was happening with ace or peter because he didnt want to destroy the kiss image, cant blame anyone for that but ace and peter
