well it's just how things go, if you sing pop music you are going to have a bigger audience than an RnB artist. Pop music is not only more accessible but it's played towards a broader audience, RnB TYPICALLY is played on urban radio stations and towards urban (specifically black) people, since black people aren't the lead consumers of music you aren't going to get the mainstream success until you make a cross over record. SOS was the big cross over record for rihanna.
