@JohnTorrance : And Jethro Tull/Ian Anderson was "let's be Roland Kirk". I think maybe Golden Earring are just having fun with their skill as multi-instrumentalists and pretty great ones at that...and I agree, it's a fine tune.
Klasse Song, erinnert mich noch an den Besuch von Deutschland aus nach Maastricht in einer Großen Disco. Weiß gar nicht mehr wie sie hieß und ob es die heute noch gibt. Für mich gibt es 5 Sterne für den Song.
back home, Buddy Joe and Radar love, songs I´ll never get out of my ear and my heart, asides does anybody remember a dutch band from late 60ies,early 70ies that played a more raw blues style like savoy brown, john mayall, pretty things - i can´t find them anywhere on the internet
Great single from Earring's first album of the seventies and they had become a straight-ahead hard rock band (even with that hideous flute) with new drummer Caesar.
I've noticed that both Jethro Tull and Golden Earring use the flute, and use it fairly poorly. Their notes are soooo breathy and unsubstantial. I mean, the average highschooler can better sounds out of a flute than them. I really like their songs, but then that whispy flute stumbles onstage and gets in the way of stuff. They should've gotten better at the flute, or just not included it.
@weAREinthefuture Maybe that is what they were after? I don't know a lot about the flute, but it seems to me that Jethro Tull can play his whistle pretty good!
aw come on...these were the days when musicians actually played instruments and didn't just add in clips or prolificly used synths for the same effect. jethro tull grows on you the more you're subjected to it...haha
Great thing about Youtube? You get to see all the great pre-Radar Love stuff from G.E. that we never even knew existed in here in the States, much less heard.
You'll find that Radar Love isn't even the best thing they did... if you get a chance listen to 'She Flies On Strange Wings' released in 1972 as a single, or '(Just A Little Bit Of) Peace In My Heart', which they releas in 1967 or 8, when the still called themselves The Golden EarringS.

They sure made an impression on me and my fellow Americans privileged to have lived among them and partied with them and just plain rock and rolled by them! rock on GE, you are the best, ever!

Satisfaction?

there's a band in every country who tries to play "let's be Jethro Tull", some of em with some success (like Ñu in Spain)
but GE seem to play "let's be Jethro Tull playing to be Free or dunnowhat"
Jesus, at the end it's a fine tune

@JohnTorrance
For your info.
Jethro Tull came a bit later (1967) than Golden Earring (1961). Maybe JT nicked the sound from GE?
This song is from 1970.
JT was still busy finding their sound back then.
