If you notice, the one actually leaves with the intent on getting water to spit on it. When it returns, the one in the middle gives a fear grimace and then motions to the other to spit on he stuffed animal.
Chimps will spit and throw feces at anyone they feel threatened at. Sometime they like to spit (saliva and water/liquid) just to see the reaction, that excites them as well.
I think they wanted to see if there would be a reaction from the toy since it was towards it and not the human.
They don't want that stuffed chimp getting any of their green juice!

That's so funny! I wonder what they would do if they got their hands on that thing. I think the spitting pretty much said it all.
