  • Dear SurvivalistBoards,

I'm pretty sure I'm going to purchase a Maxpedition backpack, but I'm torn between the Falcon II and Condor II. In your opinion which is a better backpack? The Falcon has 1520 cubic inches of space while the Condor has 1920. This is more a matter of space issue because according to him 1520 won't be as comfortable as fitting items in as a larger pack.

    Thanks, Mike

  • Do you prefer this condor over the falcon, and why?

  • it might be wise to update that map

  • Al these TRENDY EDC / BAG OUT BAG are nice and cool. But how much do we really use these expensive tools in a expensive bags ????

I got a knife stolen out of my car at a local car shop, the knife was $30, but it was a big deal for me. I want to go MINIMUM on price and what I carry now... Depend on where you live and what you do for living, MOST people do not need huge bags with tons of expensive tools inside a bag. Speaking from a personal experience.

  • @urkingod when I was 5 years old going to kindergarten in Seattle WA they made us all have an earthquake/ bug out bag. it really depends on the person and what they feel they need. Now that I'm 21 I keep 2 bags prepped at all times to serve dual prepossess, the first is my day/overnight pack.. it's got everything I need if I want to go for a day hike or combined with me EDC, everything I need to either bug out or just go meet a friend out of town/state. I use all my high end gear daily :-)

  • Your Daughter is lucky, I want a Condor 2.. Haha nice video, very informative and helpful.. Good idea with the buckles for the sleeping bag.. How much was the Condor 2?

  • I have this pack and I really like it!!! The 2qt. canteen where you able to use 2 of the pals webbing straps to secure it with the alice clips? I couldn't tell from the angle!!

  • Thanks for the review! Where did you buy the extra straps from?

  • so the map case came with the bag when you order it?

  • i would of cut the excess straps a little longer so that if i want to attch my jacket or pad it can fit....but 5/5 *****

  • Yes, i guess, it is an attachment. I have the Condor II Backpack too, and theres no mapcase attached. At the upper pocket are several webbing straps to added some usefull stuff.

  • Is that mapcase an added attachment to this pack.

  • I cut straps all the time. No biggie. Not to big on the map case in a map case idea. Easier just to laminate the map at Kinkos or something.

  • Ya DONT CUT THE STRAPS!!! In a last ditch effort you can always use them for something else!EXAMPLE:(SHELTER)!! THANKS FOR POSTING!!

  • then keep them in the pack.

  • I wouldn't have cut the straps, who knows if there will be a different "something" to strap there later. Not to mention, if you are out and about, who knows when a bit of strap could come in handy.

  • very good point.

  • Awesome little mini-review there. I like that backpack. It's similiar to mine.

  • 5 Stars!

  • do you normally prep your kids equipment? i would've thought it would more rewarding for them to do it themselves with your guidance

  • you are brilliant the way you set that up

  • Where can the map case be purchased?

  • REI eBay JUst look around. I personally do not like my maps folded.

  • Maxpedition sells them for like $35.00.

    Its the :

Tear Away Waterproof Map Case with GPS/Compass/Strobe Pouch

  • Good backpack system. It would be interesting to see a sleeping bag review for various climates/conditions unless you already have done one. Thanks.

  • Why do you use a 2 quart military canteen? I think a camel back is a much better choice because it distributes the weight down the back instead of on 1 side, plus it makes it easier to drink while hiking.

  • whatisunknown - did you watch the video? The pack has a place for a water bladder, but I do not have a spare bladder for this pack right now. When I get a spare bladder, the canteen might be removed, but then again I might just add a second 2 quart canteen on the other side.

  • I missed the part where you said you didn't have an extra bladder to put in there., but yes I did watch the video.

  • Kev, do you remember where you got the Canteen? I'm interested in the setup you have for my packs.

  • @survivalistboards - That sleeping bag looks pretty big and bulky. I wouldn't want to do too many miles with one of them on my back. I would recommend the Recon 3 sleeping bag by HALO. I love mine. It even has re-enforced end to knee height so you can sleep with your boots on(I use a silk liner inside mine that rolls up to the size of a mini soda can.

  • @survivalistboards T Pennington said to contact you here about my account being baned on survivalboards "theenathan" I had made two accounts and was told to buy vip status to avoid ban and I paid for VIP and then got baned. HELP

  • @theenathan

Buy VIP status to avoid being banned? Should have told them to go fuck themselves.

  • you can put a bladder in it and there are going camping

  • Yes I realize that, but I assume when you go camping and your gonna be walking, that it might be a good long walk. When your wearing 2 quarts of water on your side, it makes you compensate for weight on the side, he doesn't have a bladder, and I didn't hear that part the first time I watched the video. So, I figured that he preferred the 2 quart.

  • i think even if you have one, its wise to carry both, because a canteen is much more durable than a water bottle.....ive seen the bladders puncture during hiking trips, so its not a good idea to depend on them as your main source of water

  • You do have a point there.

  • @whatisunknown - I use a camel AND a military canteen. You can molly strap your canteen in the middle of your pack or anywhere else you want to evenly distribute the weight. The reason I carry the canteen is because it is my cookset. It's my kettle and it locks into a frypan thingy and chow tin. It's a bit like the crusader set but better. It's the Spetsnaz mess kit. You can get them on Ebay from a seller who has new stock from an old Soviet military depot in St Petersburg.

  • Thanks for the video.
