This is great. I grew up in Hammond in the 70's and 80's and lived on many streets, one being Truman St. a house right behind the Wonder Bread Bakery. The house right next to where they parked their trailers...been in Ohio for 20 yrs. now.
Like everything else Hammond has changed drastically from scenes like this. The decline of the steel industry not only affected Gary but towns like Hammond, East Chicago, and Whiting...
Hammond is a piece of shit!! If you wan't your children to grow up with a very high risk of killing or getn killed, joining a gang, gettin raped, robbed, gettin preg at 13, dropping out of school, going to jail, getting an std, hooked on drugs, drug dealing, prostitution then move to the wonderful city of Hammond Indiana!!!!
It's been about 40 years since I lived in Hammond. Lived at 1018 Spruce Street. Funny how a person can remember an address from that many years ago...in fact, remember the phone number too...and I was only about 12 years old.
the norht side is where you want to be close to evrything, even chicago. I love hammond. You can even get your kids' free college education from the casino, you must be a citizen of hammond though. It must not be the forgotten city anymore. We need a football team.
I was born there,Grew up in evansville !,But still remember all the trips to see family in the 70,s 80,s alot of memories like Minor duns restraunt and bluetop carhop:)
*hey* my daddy and brother (wife and kids) still live in hammond, and it's still an okay city. it's not as great as it was when I was a kid, but i grew up there, and i have a special place in my heart for it!
wooww. sad sad sad, in 10 years hammond's gonna be another gary/east chicago.. :( Everyones moving out. ALready most of hammond is. exept hessville and woodmar.

I spent the last five years of school in Hammond, enlisted in the Navy in late 63. This film brings back lots of memories.
