  • a song from the old times when women were still women and men were still men and women were ladies and no whores like today

  • Unquestionably a very politically incorrect song - by the standards of today (2012), that is. A superlative vocal performance by the good Ms Wynette, nevertheless.

  • -------- Tammy will always be the Queen of Country Music......barr none ! RIP Tammy

  • Her hair hurt me on the other site, this is better.

  • Great voice ! I had a girlfriend who didn't stand by her man. I guess that's why we're split.

  • OMG..I don't believe what I'm hearing...."youlovemysweetlips"...what a load of crap!!!!!!!!!!

  • You know fellas divorces are so expensive Because They Are WORTH IT !!!

  • i hate this song! But the wife likes it so sadly i have to llisten to it all the time

  • @1991Muzza Let me get this right, sir: YOU hate the song "Stand By Your Man" ... but your lady wife likes it?!!!

Generally speaking, this track by Ms Wynette is much more popular with men that it is with women. Over the years, I have come across numerous girls and women who can't stand the song ... but tbh, I have not come across many men who dislike it.

  • it depends....is he going to stand by me...when time gets hard will he run or stand....

  • @ulovemysweetlips well, women initiate 70% of divorces..mostly out of 'boredom'. So it seems the stats speaks for themselves. Most men will stand by their woman - most women won't stand by their man.

  • @videodads Very good point, sir.

  • Shoulda played this to the wife or soon to be...X wife!

  • Re Hillary Clinton: maybe she had personal reasons for not liking the song, but if she's just being a feminist her criticism is misplaced. The song is about being understanding and accepting and loyal, which is how we all should be.

  • Things reminds me of my mum. She's been standing by dad for like, ever. I love them both.

  • FLAWLESS vocal by The First Lady of Country, THE GREAT Tammy Wynette!

  • Wow...when people USED to sing. No such thing in the last 11 years.Pathetic world

  • @shinyguts I totally agree with you! Where has the talent gone? So many singers now do not sing with sincerity or, for that matter, with good vocal technique. Carrie Underwood's version of this song is not terrible, but it's not excellent. Is that the best we have to offer?

  • @shinyguts yeah people were good but some people still are you just have to find them i sing not sure if i'm good though people say i am

  • i love it

  • love this song-

  • LIVE.. wow .. no effort

  • R.I.P Tammy! You will always be a Queen of Country

  • @walter, indeed... its a shame how couples easily give up now a days....

  • Super, great american singer, thanks,

    greetings Jim.

  • Sing it ... Tammy!

  • God She Was Hot!!!

  • waar zijn ze. super

  • waar zijn ze. super

  • 4 people lost the way ???

  • luv this song and luv Tammy

  • Just call it like it is. She was a great singer for all of us to listen too and watch, one of the best. Forget about any personal faults she might have had, we all have some. To bad we have no one today, of this quality to listen too and watch.

  • @remitch42 i dont have that special good connection , i m very lucky it happens .. the week before i met my wife a girl dropt me suddenly .i kwow that i was very depressed when i walked in to that local bar and was sitting on a table and a girl want s to know what s wrong with me and asked me for a dance ( stand by your man )

she listens and spend the hole night with me ..Three months later we live together and we married 23-1-76 ( 4 months after these story .

  • TIMELESS!

  • I admired Tammy Wynette not just for this great song but for how well she zinged it to Bill and Hillary Clinton. Tammy, in more ways than one, you are a heroine.

  • @primogennaio She loved Bill and Hillary Clinton, and after the song ordeal she performed for them at the white house.

  • @mikesshs I'll take your word that she performed for them. Perhaps because of friendship or because they were all Southerners, Hillary apologized for condemning the song. But Tammy did give it to them good. If anything, the Clintons being who they are, were more worried about the political implications.

  • a legend!

  • A superb vocal performance by Ms Wynette.

  • By the standards of today (2011), this is a very "non-PC" track indeed ...... but wth!

Political Correctness is a much over-rated virtue, anyway.

  • It is a pity more women did not listen to the words of this song

  • @mareecarr1 Gosh, you are never going to win any awards for Political Correctness (unless i am very much mistaken) !!! But, far be it from me to criticize u for that; I am no great fan of 'PC' myself ...... and that is putting it mildly, to be honest.

I have always considered myself to be a bit of a chauvinist. That said, I do understand why many women have "issues" (as they say in modern parlance) with the lyrical content of this song; it does appear to advocate a very real double-standard.

  • Would seriously love to be a woman in the 60s...be so much better than being a man right now

  • i love her clothes she looks fab that style is all backk out now

  • Auntie Connie was maby Married five times , but she had many more Lovers!

  • One of the greatest lady's of country. used to live near her when she was a small girl. dedicated to the one I loved and who helped me wear out an eight tract tape playing her songs

  • thanks to you all , 154 likes the story of Gonda and myself ,

  • TRULY BEAUTIFUL SONG BY THE ONE AND ONLY TAMMY WYNETTE.NOBODY SINGS IT BETTER THAN SHE DOES.REMARKABLE VOICE...I LOVE IT,I LOVE IT,I LOVE IT.THANK YOU FOR SHARING.

  • This song is dedicated to Tariana Turia & the Maori Party... like it says "stand by your man" tino aroha ahau kia koe Solomon Tipene...

  • Stand by your man, but also make sure he stands by you. You had better make sure that you're not getting treated like a buffet, he get's a plate every time he's done with what he's eating at the time.

  • divorcing after 28 years of marriage and i stood by him all the way and never got anything in return but now i have found a man that i will always stand by and in return he stands by me too!!!

  • @hannah911able 28 yrs? sorry to hear that, but as the comedian Louis CK says, No good marriage ever ended in divorce, so youre probably better off

  • that hair is magnificent

  • I still prefer the Blues Brothers version...

  • how is it ironic? explain that?

  • @frankeeg83 Explain irony? If you need an explanation, you don't get it ...

  • @radstainforth No YOU don't get it. I'm well versed on irony. I just want you to explain how this song is ironic?

  • wow...was eine Stimme....Gänsehaut....

  • What a voice.

  • These days they say that people have too much personal information about them on the internet. So to all the women wondering where their man is. Get on the internet and search for him yourself using whatever free information you can get. Dont rely on some family connection or investigator. Did you see Something about Mary movie. Look for yourself

  • Die Melodie rührt mich so an. Danke !

  • wow congradulations walter

  • I <3 classic country!!!!!!!!!!

  • 4 men got left by their honey =/ me too but i like the song

    keep up your head, dudes

  • I like to put my own meaning to this song. To me, it means don't give up, stay strong because natural, true love is important, and the guy who loves you should be worth suffering for because in the end, it'll be ok and all that hardship will of paid off.

  • Look at her relationship with George Jones for goodness sake. An alcoholic and womanizer, cocaine addict, she stuck with him even tho it took a toll on her physical and mental health. Tammy has passed away he has a pretty young wife. go figure.

  • 4/6/2011 was 13 years that Tammy Wynette passed away, (4/6/1998).

May God always be with her. May Tammy Wynette rest in peace.

  • To Walter 4092, Wow ! That is very neat Walt ! Congratulations . Hope it goes another 35 years at least.

My lady and I have a song that is "ours" .too. "I just called to say I love you". We just celebrated 25 years.

  • @7levelGI thks

  • This song isn't about ever-lasting love. It's about a woman being faithful and loving to a cheating and abusive husband because that's what was expected. To sum it up, it's saying: No matter what (or who) your husband does, be a good girl and take it. It was released in 1968 during a time when women across the nation were fighting for women's rights and it caused quite a stir. I love this song, but I would listen to it's true message before dedicating to a spouse you love and respect.

  • Rest in peace, Tammy, beautiful song, beautiful lady.

  • george jones... was a drunk... financial woes... hahahaha ! love tammy

  • First Lady of Country... well deserved title....

  • to walter4092, that is a great story!

  • How in the world could you dislike this song? Are your ears broken? She's amazing :D

  • Tammy Wynette: same initial letters as Terrific Wonderful!

  • Ahh, those days when women on TV were real...

  • The greatest singer ever ! ! !

  • 20 september 1975 , i was sitting all alone at a local bar , suddenly they played this song

a very nice girl asked me for a dance and she is untill now standing by her man and i love her , we just have our 35 wedding day , time flies but still i love this song because thats was the moment my wife came into my life

  • @walter4092 Thanks for sharing that beautiful story! Many more happy, healthy years to you and your wife.

  • @walter4092 God bless u, that was so sweet....

  • @walter4092 20th September, 1975? That was a Saturday, if memory serves.

I was 10 years of age, and living in Norwich, in the East of England, at the time. I wouldn't say that the autumn of '75 seems like yesterday exactly ... but it certainly doesn't seem like 36 years ago, either !!

The number one single across the nation (Great Britain, that is) on 20th September,1975 was "Sailing" by Rod Stewart. That remains a great track today, as indeed does Tammy Wynette's "Stand By Your Man".

  • @mixwell1983 the story written really happen .God s know i m speaking the true .time flies . 36 years later i do not forget what happened that night .I was so tired and lonesome , two weeks before i broke with a girl because i had a date with the girl i was mad about , but the same night ( 13-9 ) she dropped me .

i was not good enough for her , very lucky that on the 20-9 a girl want s to know what was wrong with me .

the secret of our marriage ..... talk with each other .

  • @walter4092 - That's great to hear ! I know men and women communicate in different ways but if you can find that common ground and be open that's what matters. I'm 28 but I think a lot of my morals were instilled by my grandparents and parents and it's such a shame now days how everyone is soo quick to divorce. I just hope I find a good woman who was brought up with strong "old school" morals. I believe people in my grandparents era had stronger values than people currently which is sad.

  • This is not the true first lady of Country Music---LORETTA LYNN IS-because she has done what WYNIE is singing... EAT your heart OUT WYNETTE FANS ! ! ! ! !

  • @Themaninblack4real i do not understand why you must wrote that ,for me it s the song that allways wil remember me at my first date with a girl ( more than 36 years ago ) , i was so down that night and suddenly the dj played this song and a girl with very long hair asked me to dance with her , talked to me and it was the start for a relation that stil standing .What difference does it make that Tammy divorced several times ,she was a great lady and that s what matter to me

  • @walter4092 great story my friend ,good thing you found each other sounds like a nice lady

  • Not that it takes away from this great song, but it's ironic that she was married 5 times lol

  • @Goatoftheforest lol that's hilarious :P

  • @Goatoftheforest

Sometimes, there are exceptions to the rule. ;). lol, especially when we fart.....

  • @Goatoftheforest Hahahahahahhahahahahahahahahaha, really????? loooooooool

  • @Goatoftheforest

she stood by her man FIVE times! what more do you want??? lol

  • @Betsy0640 *men

  • @Goatoftheforest That's the funniest thing I've heard today! Big thumbs up. lol

  • @Goatoftheforest Well the name of the song is "Stand by your man" not "Stand by one man" lol

  • @beachandsunandsand lol true

  • @Goatoftheforest Perhaps it is churlish - ever so slightly (!) - on your part, to point that out. :)

  • Gode bless your mum and dad my friend.

    Regards

    Mike

  • @razzle300488 Tammy did write the song, Billy Sherril wrote the line "stand by your man" first and Tammy filed in the rest at a meeting they had. Tammy didn't like the song and it was initially released only as a B side.

  • To all of you arguing about why this song was written, Tammy herself said, "I never intended for it to be anything more than a pretty love song." And of course the infamous quote, "It took Me 25 minutes to write and another 25 years to defend."

  • @BeBitched86 (continued) You have to have enough common sense to be able to read in-between the lines and realize that: IF you have a man who is truly *worth* standing by, then you'll stand by him. ...and all those other little things he does that get under your skin, well, that's why in later live performances she made it a point to wink at the audience and stress the line, "Cause' after all.. He's *JUST* a man" : )

  • My grandmother used to sing this song to me. But she also used to sing me Hit the Road Jack....

  • @ParanineXY sounds like u had a cool grandma, probly had a story or two of her own !

  • maybe child molesters deserve to be beaten: a woman? never— what you fear can kill you, but never defeat you: what is your story, Pammie?

    thank you and your missed

  • my mom and dad are singing and dancing to this song in heaven...love it so much

  • takes me right back to being a small girl in the 70s. My auntie and uncle loved the country music of the time, took to it in a big way, so I was exposed to it through them. I also remember, white artificial christmas trees were very popular -and coloured ones too. We always had a white one till I was 13.

  • mein schatz lebt leider nicht mehr

  • absolutely beautiful woman and song

  • she must have seen her friends boyfriends in trouble and the girls was just standin there doin nothing while the boys were getting screwed !!!!!!!!!!!

so how will u pay my 50 bucks

  • u gurls should do wat the song says!!!!

  • @keith18995 I'll bet you fifty bucks you can't figure out why this song was written.

  • @Videogeek95 I'm not sure if this is correct, but it was said that after her failed marriage to George Jones, she met and fell in love with....and married George Ritchie, and she wrote this as a tribute to him.

  • @MultiBaldEagle According to Billy Sherrill, “Stand By Your Man,” was just another way of saying “I love you and without reservations!” Sherrill said he carried the idea for “Stand By Your Man” on a piece of paper in his back pocket for over a year before ever attempting to write the song.

  • @MultiBaldEagle It is not correct because it was written by Tammy and her producer Billy Sherrill in 1968. Tammy married George Jones the following year and divorced him in 1975. She did not marry George Richey (note spelling) until 1978.
