  • RTD is a marvellous illustrator. Wish he would do some DW comics... love that style .

his quick doodles in The Writer's Tale are very nice, too.

  • I have mixed feelings about RTD, he wrote some appalling episodes and insisted on making the Doctor lovey dovey but without him we wouldn't have it at all today.

  • @eateroftheflame he made him lovey dovey ONCE...with Rose. other than that companions were occassionally omantically intested in him, which isn't the Doctor's fault. He is 1 of my fav writers 4 TV and DW altho I admit he isn't the best but I kinda like his style. I feel ppl do give him too much flasck considering all his job entails. I notice in S%, tho good, the Moff hasn't had any eps on par with his prev 1s likely due 2 his other committments as head writer, xec prod etc

  • @227060 Although he only did it once, that "once" started in series 1 and lasted until the end of series 4 when he finally ditched Rose with a clone. I have to disagree about Moffs series 5 episodes, I thought they were just as good as the previous ones (except the finale but I've never cared much for the finales). It really doesn't matter what others think just like what you want, some bad mouth the 1996 TV movie but I loved it.

  • @eateroftheflame u c u r the kind of fan I like, u have ur opinion but recognise that i have mine and within a 45+ yr old fanbase where the main characters r foreva shifting that is imp as factions inevitably dvlp. I didin't dislike any of Moff's S5 eps just well, Blink, Silence in the Lib etc, I felt where a bit bttr. and yes that romance lasted a while but hey i feel it wudda been worse if it was happening with multiple companions. River i'll kinda accept when it happens

  • My favorite series of the davies era was probably series 1.

  • @pupbenny mine was S3 4 prsnl reasons

  • i forget who the guy is with the orange skin and white hair, but he's a fucking tool.

  • Is it just me, or does a young Russell look a bit like Matt Smith?

  • Russell can have a job as an illustrator with my company any day of the week. Wish I could get to work with him, he's absolutely brilliant. Marvelous... I desperately want to publish his graphic novels written and drawn by himself. That would be some good books, let me tell you.

  • Thank you for being the doctor back. Ive watched since 1983 and its been great having him bk

  • thank you for being the doctor's back?

    what?

  • I LOVE DAVID TENNANT

  • Anyone think that if Marshall Gregson from the United States of Tara was older and Welsh... he'd bear a strange resemblance to RTD? (he does have a DW poster on his wall :P)

  • NO FEMALE DOCTOR PLEASE!!!!!!

that will totally ruin it and i'm a girl but i'm JUST GETTING ATTACHED TO DOCTOR WHO! AND THAT WILL BE THE END OF THE RIDE FOR ME

  • yeah, it makes no sense for a male gallifreyan to change his gender... i mean that's just a little too much to believe.

besides, there are plenty of female time ladies.

  • yeah, that is already too much, and really weird

  • @hcvang im surprised in comics of novels they haven't had a time lord regenerate in2 a non-humanoid yet

  • @227060 Why would a GALLIFREYAN, with a Time Lord education and the technology to regenerate, regenerate into... a MARTIAN, let's say...?

No matter WHAT, The Doctor is a Gallifreyan - he will always regenerate into another Gallifreyan, and a Male Gallifreyan... Changing gender, changing species is really not going to make any sense. Isnt regeneration a big enough strain on believability when they are reborn in the first place? It's just right, imo. Stretching it further is going too far, imo.

  • @hcvang calm dwn dude Im just saying bcos the Doctor has said when he regenerates its a random process, so he cud end up as anything. of course on on TV u r never gonna c a non-humanid Gallifrayan bcos of the production costs and stuff and Im not saying I'd want to either but Im just surprised the niche hasn't yet been tackled in spin off media

  • @227060 look up the word verisimilitude

  • @hcvang ok its the degree to which fiction is real, the degree of realism....wats ur point

  • @227060 Isnt it obvious?

You establish a fictional world, establish rules within that world and if you twist them TOO much, verisimilitude is lost and believability is lost - our suspension of disbelief is ruined, and the show doesnt work.

If a male gallifreyan morphs into a Dalek, A Sontaran, a Martian or a Zog(!), he wont be a gallifreyan.

a male gallifreyan to a female gallifreyan is also pushing it, but it's atleast more defendable than an alien.

  • @hcvang u r right...exept in Dr Who the rules get so messed up almost anything goes. thats its strength, thats its weakness. if the Doctor said Time Lords can regenerate into almost any form then I believe they can. Im not sayin I'd want 2 c it but like I said I was just surprised with 40+ yr of history, and mountains of spin off media it was never attempted in some form or another. Realism in DW has 2 b rolled with. u got spaceships wrecking Big Ben + idealised versions of Churchill 4 Fs sake

  • @227060 Yeah, but those spaceships still adhere to a certain sense of realistic convention - and the Churchill version was still believably Churchill... he didnt start dancing around the room, wasnt a slender young gentleman with blonde hair and a girl on his arm, etc... If the Doctor, always been male from the get-go, always been a time lord, suddenly turned into a sontaran - poof! gone verisimilitude.

allz I'm saying is I dont think it's weird they havent tried it.

  • @hcvang Im not saying the Docotor shud regenerate in spin off media into a Sontaran or wateva, just A time Lord. plus thats why I said in spin off media bcos u can get away with more stuff in those bcos they aren't as exposed as say the TV series. Eg there were non-white and gay companions in DW spin off stories LONG b4 they showed up in the TV show from 2005 onwards

  • @227060 sure, but gays and non-caucasian companions dont change the fundamentals of the concept, whereas changing the Doctor's species, race or gender would be a fundamental change. I mean, it could be done within the confines of a single story, if he reverts to his normal self in the end - sure!

in fact - I'm planning a fanzine full of fancomic strips, and may just do that in one of the stories.

  • @hcvang Really, i was thinking of someday doing some DW fanfics but within reason. u know u c all these fanfic that go WAY too far like, well pretty much any fic which ends up with the Dr in bed with any1. I wanted 2 do a trilogy of Cybermen stories, 1 of which might b a kinda prequel to the Next Doctor so ud c Jackson lake get atacked, then slowly become the Docotor, find Rosita and have an adventure all his own b4 he meets the Doctor. I also came up with a mad idea where Dr 11 meets Jenny

  • Ive wondered about the 13 lives. Im sure the Master has gone over his.

  • There is some kind of gem that can give timelords more lives, The master was given the chance to get this gem during the specail the "five doctors"

  • Ive seen the 5 drs but i cant even remeber that part, i need to watch it again. I remeber the ring of rassilon but i cant actually remember the storyline properly.

  • An interesting anecdote is that in the second-to-last Tom Baker episode, Keeper of Traken, The Master actually dominates another's body, and he's in that form throughout the rest of the series. It was very similiar to what he did in the 1996 movie, although he wasn't after The Doctor's remaining lives or anything. What I'm thinking is that the Time Lords reconstructed a new body for him, and as such he would've started off at Life: 1 again.

  • Russell has said something like that - that the master and a lot of other timelords were resurrected to fight the timewar, so that sounds right.

  • The lord president is snatching the doctors out of their timelines in order to become immortal... take the place of rassilon or become like rassilon...

  • I don't think RTD was bad, but Steven Moffat is infinately better.

  • Have to agree. Moffat's stories have been my favorites since 2005.

  • Say what you will, but there would not be Dr. Who today without this man.

  • @kroozader Hell yeah, everyone who loves fantasy and sci fi owe him a pat on the back. =)

  • erm... that clip sequence was pretty bad considering these people run a big tv show... its like the amateur stuff you get here on youtube, which makes it good, because we are amateurs lol

  • Glad to see this idiot finally leaving Doctor Who

  • come on john nathan turner was the worse 1

  • Not really, JNT stayed on for too long, which didn't help the show, but I think people unfairly focus on the negative aspects of his run, when he actually did a lot for the show. RTD, on the other hand, has done more to hurt the show in a few years in charge than Nathan-Turner did throughout his long run on Doctor Who.

  • @thephantomposterIII how. he bropught back a show which b4 05 was frakly considered a joke, even if that was untru, and made it into literally the biggest TV show on the BBC and at least one of the biggest on Brit tv and gave it a new lease on life. I agree with u about JNT's negativity. yeah he hurt the show andf I don't blame him the cancellation afterall Castrovalva was under his tenure, but RTD is FAR from the worst head writer or xec producer

  • Doctor Who seems to be so popular. I'm living in germany and they did only send the first 2 seasons. I'd love to live in England, where I can watch Doctor Who because my TV isn't geting BBC -.-

  • LOL u gotta love that man what a legend he's a GENIUSE.

LMAO at 08:34 im so big and strong i will protect you.

  • What about the fans in 2009

  • Russell's the best! He should get his own show like 'The Graham Norton Show'! He's so funny!

  • Michael Praed can be a great doctor who.

  • hahaha i love the dalek :)

  • it seems that RTD knows when David is leaving, it could be when RTD finally goes.

I really doubt David will do it with Steven Moffat's new season.

  • Well according to previous episodes, David as the Doctor, still needs to meet Queen Elizabeth, and River Song, before he changes. So he needs to do at least one more series.

  • @Ansuzie no he met her off screen and meets river in S5

  • Thanks for putting this on, none of this sort of stuff gets shown here in Aus. Thank you once again.

  • Thank you for putting this up here

  • RTD is so great a writer, love his work; really fantstic that you loaded that up, thanks ever so much.

You really get to see not that much of him.
