@commando8088 The Soviets were killing anyone who retreated to show the others that surrendering was not an option. Stalingrad was very important to Joseph Stalin, therefore it was taken very seriously. They would probably not kill the entire unit. But they would kill ANYONE who retreated without permission to do so. That part was, indeed, very real.

Probably one of the greatest war movies ever made. Those Messerschmidt boat raids are hardcore. Right up there with Platoon, Full Metal Jacket, The Pianist, Saving Private Ryan, Band of Brothers, The Pacific, Schindlers List, The Downfall, Patton, Generation Kill, Apocalypse Now and The Dear Hunter.
