  • This song is incredible... one of my absolute favorite songs of all time throughout my life... INCREDIBLE. I love it SO much...

  • The summer of 1989. I was 19. Seems like yesterday, yet so far away...longing

  • as someone who was 1 when this album came out i knew the cure for pictures of you and 311s shit version of love song both of which i hate i intentionally avoided listening to them forever ...... i didnt kno

  • The other day this song came on my iPod on shuffle. I had to sit down on a bench and wait for it to finish.

  • So, when I am dead, they will hear this. :) (yes, I had my lawyer draw it up.).

  • @enyaandbeer I'm shooting for the Caterpillar.

  • @Faelsun Lol, I'm not sure what song I want when I die. Maybe Hot! Hot! Hot!....

  • 21 people have no soul.

  • The Cure was my favourite band when I was a teenager and living with my dad, which seems like yesterday... he died last April... which seems like forever. RIP Juke, my best friend. September 14, 1945 - April 5, 2011

  • There are no words to describe just how good this song is and how much I am enjoying it right now :)

  • this song never fails to move me even after a million listens.

in 1996 on the swing tour they opened with it one night and i can still remember the hairs standing up on the back of my neck. it was such a surprise because i had seen a couple of shows the week before and they opened with want. this night was the first time they opened with plainsong that tour. 15 years later and i can still remember it like it was yesterday.

  • This is the album that played the night that my loved passed away. I know he went peacefully.Rest peacefully my love. Dedicated to Richard Mathew Waller!!!!!!

  • who remembers this... you bought this tape (yes tape) and put it into your car stereo.... this came on... my hands were shaking and I could barely drive this sounded so good... then pictures of you comes on.... musical heartattack... this is one of the greatest albums ever created...

  • @uneedtherapy42 I remember! Plainsong gave me chills. I first heard it in the record store . a boy that worked there asked if I liked the Cure I said yeah and this is what I listened to in those headphones. Memories like that are magic or something.

  • This always makes me think of one of the saddest photographs I've ever seen, by André Kertész.

A very simple black and white picture of his bedroom, which doesn't look like much with a double bed half undone half neatly made.

Then you learn that he took the picture shortly after his lifelong love–his wife–died of cancer, and you suddenly realise that this simple picture was his expression of overwhelming love, loss and sorrows.

  • If I ever marry, now I know with who it's going to be.

And I would this very song to be played there.

  • This song makes me think of my own mortality and what life will be like the day after I die.

  • most pop music is bad regardless of the decade it was produced in, there were some terrible songs in the 80's also, good music is out there as long as you remain open minded enough to look for it

  • i believe this album is the cure at their peak...undoubtedly one of the greatest albums in music history!i can honestly say i like every song on the album.this song just takes me back in time to a magical place,i really cant explain it?the reality is cure fans you know what im talking about!robert smith please bring the boys back to madison square garden!

  • Hehe, I remembered this since the first lines describe the weather perfectly right now

I can't seem to get over this album, it has been my most favorite for almost three years now...it's so emotional...

  • How could someone dislike this ?

  • This song made me waste away in the worst way for 6 months straight when I was a teenager. I'm happy now, over a decade later, but it's too nostalgic. I should stop listening, but I cant.

  • This song gives me chills still. It's the one that I listened to in the car as I drove alone to the church where I was to be married.

  • Walking through Windsor Great Park today - alone. Had to think, to clear my mind. Walking inside the trees, no one around. Leaves on the ground, Stuck on this song, on this album, perfect for the atmosphere. I was like in a dream.

These are the Cure, that's why I love them so much. That's why Disintegration is above perfection. Because it fits the moments of loneliness perfectly.

  • Honestly, this is probably, or it's one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard, it's just so surreal and really epic and kinda magical.

  • @squirralicious i so agree

  • one of the great intros of any rock album

  • acid and lucidity. a lot of both.

  • MASSIVE EIGHTIES SOUND !!

  • magical

  • Jeg elsker dig Rie

  • this was used in Antionette w/ Kirsten Dunst

  • my friends band is going to cover this for their last show. along with a picture postcard by the promise ring. i'm going to lose it.

  • Before I die...

  • Disintegration best album ever

  • the best song to put little 6 months old boy to sleep..thank you The cure....from the bottom of my heart

  • it is the end of the world...............

  • It makes me cry every time

  • I'm no moviemaker, but I HAVE to make a long, beautiful 12" to put this song in it!!

  • So Autumnal, so hypnotic. Rainy weather skies...baggy sweaters...falling leaves...perfection

  • saw them in 88... was the most surreal show i have ever seen... everybody was dancing... everybody...

  • 19 people disintergrated

  • i like this song..:)

  • I got this image of a girl dying from cancer.

  • What is this song about?

  • @johnhatchelful i don't know why,but i think it's about a girl he loves that either ran away or died.

  • I adore this song!

  • ç_ç No words to describe this album...

  • God bless the Cure..got me through most of my growing up years, seriously!!

  • i love this album!

  • these comments...wow...thanks every1....the comments made me realize that this song is just as IMPORTANT to me as is it to all of you...AMAZING.

  • it's hard to believe that I hated this song the first time i heard it..........

  • just perfect

  • Great song - it reminds me a little of the Album 'Faith' released early/mid `80s I think,

  • this song.....what can be said. absolutely entrancing,enchanting,soulful,heartfelt,elegant,relaxing,unique,exquisite....no,we have yet to create a word to describe a piece like this. hats off to the cure.

how emotional is this song? after one listen i wrote a book inspired by it. if only i was famous, then you could read it.....oh well.

  • I LOVE YOU REBERT SMITH !!!!

  • quando moriro' vorro' questa canzone......vi amo

  • Prefer the band`s earlier works, they seemed a lot more honest in their writing back in the first two albums,- just sayin`...

  • @greyhound3561 'just sayin'' is a stupid phrase. horrific habit.

  • Uma música carregando o peso do mundo. De pulverizar até o mais duro dos corações.

  • @ReganDaly When you hit the dislike button, youtube is less likely to recommend similar videos. Otherwise, youtube would start recommending other videos by the same artist/uploader etc.

  • this is one of the best ever songs, shit i still feel like a warm fuzzy stoner teenager - music like this will never return, the kids aint alright anymore - they prefer drippy and some generic black dude with a gold chain giving hand signals at the camera like his listeners need sign language - and they probably do, deaf bastards.

this is music from a bygone era - my son will know about this, he wont know about cheryl cole - i call it a parental fightback

  • @utrapzab not sure why you're so upset that someone has a different taste in music. I was listening to the Cure in 1980, they were fine until they hit the charts....they became less about the music and more about the spiky hair and lipstick.....utterly awful record company led pap if you ask me

I imagine you're of a very different era....a lot younger than me. your tastes will be accordingly unsimilar

  • @utrapzab when i'm older and have children, they will know about this.

  • @kingofthebeachh good on you kingo, the fightback starts with the mind

drappy dubz and cheryl aloud are hardly what you want your kids listening to unless you want them to work in asda and worship that fat prick cowell

  • @utrapzab not all kids like that stuff- some of us- like me- appreciate real music.

  • @Tirza777 Glad to hear it

  • @Tirza777

just too rare my dear, but I am hopefull dude, the real music will be back, this shit will be alive for 3 years, not more, and good chances for less.

  • @utrapzab YOU ARE SOOOOOO FUNNYYY!!! AND SOOOO RIGHTTTT!!!!!!! THIS SONG ALWAYS MAKES ME A BIT MISTY EYED!!!

  • @utrapzab I'm 17 and i love the cure. Not all teenagers these days like shite music you know.

  • @Christiandonaghey its so very good to hear pal, unfortunately yoou are such aminority these days

  • @utrapzab

    everybody wang chung indeed.

  • @utrapzab Indie rock, bro. Check it out. There IS hope for modern music, I promise.

  • @utrapzab Thank you for posting your thoughts, they are so my thoughts as well. A young parent of 2 boys , I hope they will learn to appreciate the music and learn to play a guitar, any instrument. thumbs up!

  • @utrapzab I understand where you're coming from - my dad introduced me to The Smiths, David Bowie etc, and I love it all. But don't dismiss modern music altogether - bands like this probably won't return, but there is still so much good new music being produced. Unfortunately, Cheryl Cole and N-Dubz dominate the airwaves at the moment, leaving most adults with the conclusion that nothing of any substance is being created. Educate your son about music, but let him teach you as well. peace

  • @Multivaaac always keep an eye on whats fresh but can you honestly say its great these days? when was the last real movement? some say britpop, rave, madchester - all around two decades ago, things, society is too fractured now, it was better back then no question, but you are right every now and then a peach comes along, my sons three and listens to justins house on cbeebies - and yes that is better than DUN ZUBBED or Manky Mix lol,

    'its not where your from...'

  • @Bioeoo2 possibly the worst guess ever.

  • </3

  • reminds me of Placebo

  • @ReganDaly A friend recommended it to me. I stopped listening to the Cure after "Pornography" and they became a parody of themselves.

  • where'd those 18 dislikes come from? must've been accidental

  • @ReganDaly oh fackin ell

  • @ReganDaly Not accidental... we're just upset it was a still and not their actual performance.

  • @soulmerchant can you got tell by the link image?

  • @soulmerchant It's music, you don't put an album on and the band starts playing in front of you, just listen and enjoy the album art.

  • @ReganDaly I know, right? Crazy to think that different people would have different tastes.

  • @loljustice31 just weird that people bother to watch or listen to videos on youtube when they don't even like it. they know it's Plainsong by The Cure because it's in the title, yet they still link to it

  • Disintegration IS the Cure's best album and this song is an anthem! I love it!

  • amazing

  • learning this song on guitar :)

  • i wish robert smith had gone solo and hadn't made all the shit under the cure's name. this was their best album imho

  • @thomas79marshall robert smith is the cure

  • excellent song from an excellent album

  • 18 people aren't plain

  • I feel the lyrics do not make sense with the song. It's very stressful to get into. I don't understand how they are so amazing. I feel that the lyrics do not mix with the background music. I feel that it is just all over the place.

  • so fricken beautiful. i love the cure, though it's hard to listen to them since my boyfriend passed away ... they were his favorite band!

  • Best opening of an album ever...

  • I saw them in San Jose on 4th of July of '92, best concert I've EVER been to!

  • I saw them in Atlanta during the curiosa festival and this is what they opened with. I've seen hundreds of concerts from punk to hip hop, from Neil Diamond to Morbid Angel but when they started with this is the only time I've felt a wave of emotion from a show.

  • You can really hear the Joy Division influence in this one!

  • Probably the saddest song I've ever heard...:*(

  • It must suck to be deaf

  • @RandomChaosprod we should try playing this to deaf people see if this beautiful song cures it

  • @jaime94693 Haha, I bet any Cure song would.

  • hanno invaso i terreni ma si sono dimenticati dell' infinito del mondo sottoterra e dell' occulto please read "dylan dog", and after 3D.for me and you.

  • @BlodwenLilith YOU SHUT YOUR GODDAMN MOUTH!!!! RIGHT NOW!!!!

  • @BlodwenLilith Jk, love the song :3

  • Absolutely BEAUTIFUL. The dreamiest song I've ever heard !!!

  • Incredible song by one of the greatest bands of all time. "Disintegration" has always been my favorite album by The Cure. It's one of the albums that got me through those dark and turbulent teen years. It's hard to say what life would have been like had it not been graced by their music. Absolutely astonishing stuff.

  • There is not an album I own that's as complete as this. There is not one bad track on it, a masterclass in the genré.

  • dedicada a mi querida tia SOLEDAD hoy en el dia de su muerte!!!!!

  • the wind is blowing like it's the end of the world....

  • This entire album is just amazing, from this song throughout, I can still remember the first time I put the needle ( yes on vinyl ) down on this opening song. I sat there mesmerized for the next hour.

  • such an amazing song. This is my favorite album from The Cure.

  • i wonder who opened for them that night

  • i had this song in my head when i got out of the hospital. . . there was may elders around me, which just made me feel a whole lot better xD

  • this song is what I feel like when I go back on my antidepressants.

  • This song make history in my life. From Goiania in Brazil

  • i start listen to this on my iphone 4!!!

  • I walked down the aisle to this song June 25th :)

  • @invisiblestars No you didn't lol.

  • @invisiblestars congrats invisable starrs :0

  • @invisiblestars rock on ROCK ON

  • I saw this tour at Dodgers Stadium in Los Angeles; my first major concert. Love and Rockets were among the opening acts, which was wonderful enough, but when the lights went out and this song exploded, all 6 ft 4, 200 pounds of me cried like a kitten. Absolutely stunning.

  • @richmltn wow...that's a wonderful moment... :)

  • @richmltn kittens dont cry

  • @richmltn I was at that show. The summer right before my 10th grade. The first opening act was Shellyan Orphan followed by The Pixies. Do you remember the insane food fight before The Cure came on?

  • @richmltn cute <3 C:

  • One of best 10, five songs ever after 1000000 songs in my life.

  • I love this song so much, especially the intro, the chimes sounds so serene that I actually bought chimes that sounds exactly like it and hang them outside my door and the song plays in my mind. :)

  • beautiful. songs this lovely make me feel like I was born in the wrong decade.

  • 0:22 = <33333333333

  • I listened to this album all the time all my high school bus. To bad there was not much to distract me. This was the time of MC Hammer and Arisino Hall, allthough I like them, the music at the time inspired the teen age girls of the world to look like idiots. And of course there were girls my age that still like Kids in the Halll..... where do you think depression from the early 1990's came from?

  • @timepope Reagan, well it started with Roosevelt

  • The summer of 1989. So young, and times so simple. This brings me back.

  • Yes this song is so amazing. it had a big affect on me when i first heard it. and then i met this girl who i fell in love with who was the biggest cure fan i ever met. She had a cure shirt on, Right when i needed her most. i love this album. This first three songs are the best, but there all good. Hello everyone.

  • this song and "Breathe" (B-side of Just Like Heaven single) are the most beautiful songs The Cure ever put out and I owned every single record, CD and singles with b-sides I could get my hands on. Dickhead ex-husband destroyed them all before I could get them back in court. Still, as Kyle on Southpark says: "Disintegration" is the best album EVER! Kick ass Robert Smith!

  • CURIOSA FESTIVAL PLEASE COME BACK!!!!!

  • This whole CD still haunts me ... especially this opener. The Cure are such an accomplished and thought provoking band ..... love it ..... nearly as dark as Pornography ... not quite !!

  • by far my fav album this brings back my teenage years :0)

  • i absolutely loved this music as a teenager 15 years ago...... but please, can somebody explain to me what this song is about?? i love it, just wish to know if this is a happy or sad love song??

  • i could choke in this song,it would still be amazingly beautiful

  • Ahhh. Globalization.

Now men and children of all creed can have bitch fights on a youtube video.

  • @troy7531 unfortunately yes...

  • Anyways. Let's all ignore the negative comments, because we all know that this song and band is great. So, let's forget about them and just kick back and listen to some beautiful tunes.

  • A pen, for rewind this cassete a hundred times...

  • I saw them in Paris a couple of years ago. They opened their 4 hour show with this song. Really felt like heaven.

  • Saw them twice in Florida!!!!! Both an amazing show :)

  • love this song. and yes i use to listen to this alblum on my walkman.

  • Such Power

  • this song sounds sort of modern... like it wasn't made in the 80's... well to me it does... like it'll never "sound old" that's what i'm saying... it's a good song.

  • Whoa....

  • In the internet world it is hard to tell when people are baiting others for a reaction, but Robert Smith has been married for 23 years so isnt' gay. I've not ever seen stated that he switch hits either.

  • @daveyol What does being a homosexual have to do with anything...?

  • I'm not homosexual (not that it matters) but I always thought this would make an awsome wedding march.

  • Robert Smith was and is a brilliant and mad . Nobody could ever replicate his beautiful, musical genius.

  • robert smith, damn gay dueds can write some fucking songs. his shit is like pomes...

  • this album got me through many a BART ride during my freshman year in High School.

  • MEKTIG!

  • First Cure song I saw live...Disintegration tour...will never forget Robert shuffling to the front of the stage through the rolling fog...everyone throwing pairs of high-tops on stage! One of my favorite Cure songs, of many.
