If you listen to director's commentary you will learn that they hired a previous steadicam director that was simply not physically fit enough to complete this shot. This represents all but the pinnacle of what great steadicam operation can achieve.
ARE KIDDING ME? This is amature compaired to the steadicamoperator on Janet Jackson's music video "ROCK WITH YOU." You wanna see awesome work check that video out. This shouldn't have been a staedicam shot. hand held would of been better for thid type of action scene. But who am I? ...Oh yeah the consumer, that would or would not buy a ticket to see this movie.
Because it's not your typical fight scene that looks like a MTV music video all hand-held and cut together, it really impresses you. One take I hope too! I was thinking of a Rube-Goldberg Machine when I saw this.
I checked out the Janet Jackson video... very smooth, but no stairs! And no level changes.... it's all head level. Two totally different technical challenges... like comparing apples and oranges.
@fisherboom... Youre just a kid, what the fuck do you know? What I do know, is I wouldn't pay a cent for this crap. Of course, I do hate Asian martial arts films. they look like choreographed crap
@ fisherboom... Steadicam work is steadicam work, regardless. Be it a live a TV show, a major motion picture, a made for TV. Movie a music video and I dare say a wedding video. PERIOD! I can give a rats ass how long you've been working in the film/movie industry. I expressed an opinion and Im sticking to it. As far as you, being a pro and I a consumer LOL! Who gives a fuck?
@ fisherboom... Pros are nothing with out consumers. Consumers, either by a ticket for the movie, or not. If they do, you get paid. If they dont you dont get paid
top shelf, you could see that the guy had done some real training, beatiful AKI moves...and the kicks had eral power which made it all look more real, it was not speed up and silly
This has GOT to be the GREATEST steadicam shot i've EVER seen! BRAVO BRAVO BRAVO!!! MAGNIFICENT! INCREDIBLE! Not to mention it was choreographed very well. NICE JOB!
"Oh shoot...I forgot to start the reel. We have to start over..." Great camera work, well coordinated shot. Terrible acting.

It was slow, which in my opinion is very difficult.

What's really amazing is that they made a few mistakes and were able to adapt on the fly and you didn't even notice.
