Although Bachata is essentually a street dance...from studying Bachata all over the world you will see that there are "common" fundamentals...such as a basic step, turns and other movements that are shared among ALL STYLES of the bachata rhythm. What I mean by Bachata being a street dance and having no rules...I mean that it isn't like ballroom dancing where each style has rules concerning what is and isn't "allowed" for that particular dance.

You can do those steps in salsa too, like the side to side salsa steps are very similar to basic bachata steps, except for the fact that bachata is slower and has exaggerated hip movements on especially count 4 and 8.

In this video they are dancing bachata not salsa.

In salsa the side to side step is used rarely, mostly for travelling on the dance floor. However, in bachata, side to side step is what you do most of the time, ofcourse in a slower speed compared to salsa.
