If the idea is carried through correctly and it sounds good, more power to you. A singer needs to add their little tweaks to make the song feel more real to them. This includes Elaine Page in Cats, because she sure as hell doesn't sing exactly whats written, Jonathon Groff in SA, Heather Headley in anything, and just about any other major star you can name.

PROOF : just look at her performance as a standin for sick Barbra Streisand (i finally found someone) . While Streaisand panicked and got sick at the thought of singing live at the oscars, Celine took her place and her song at a 24 hours notice. NO OTHER ARTIST ON EARTH COULD HAVE DONE IT THE WAY CELINE DID IT.

I respectfully disagree. I've actually obsessed over Elaine Paige's immortalization of 'Memory' for many years and claimed what you do- that it can't be beat. Until....I heard Celine's rendtion! Celine just puts so much emotion and intensity to her singing. She has that Midas touch. Everything she sings turn golden. To be honest, the women of musical theater are lucky Celine didn't trod in that territory. If she did, they'd all be completely blown away off the ends of the earth!

During her "prime", she chose to sing with a 55-year-old Barbra and a 65-year-old Pavarotti ...decades from their prime & only fractions of their voices left. Celine couldn't go wrong with that!!...looks good on her resume to sing with legends, & at the same time they were too old to sing their best with Celine. She DID perform with Florent Pagny, but he CLEARLY significantly held back his efforts, most likely by request of Celine's management

Question: 10-15 years ago, why didn't Celine choose to sing with the TRUE best singers: the current Broadway performers such as Ruthie Henshall, Lea Salonga, & (at the time) Sarah Brightman? Why did she choose to duet with a young, developing Josh Groban instead of the much superior Michael Ball. Broadway singers perform 8 times/week, often for years! ..each time giving 100%, belting out unbelievable notes which Celine (who needs to save her voice only to LIP her concerts) could ONLY DREAM OF!!
