Don't be selfish and eager to POSESS an uncommon animal enough to buy any salamander , or snake , or iguana or snake , or lori ... whatever ... buy a cat , or a dog and let these animals have a proper life feeding themselves IN THE WILD . Just having one of those animals at home proves YOU DON'T RESPECT THEM .

@alizarine11 I do not agree. If man countiniously destroys their natural habitat the one thing that DOES matter IS that people ARE keeping them as pets, preserving the spicies so to speak. Far from everyone deserve having pets, I agree with that, but the ones how treats them with love, affection and care SHOULD be allowed to obtain, have, them if the so desire. Why don't you go stop people from destroying the earth rather then preposing "the freedom to get extincted out in the wild by man"?

Preserving species is a very important matter ... and it's already , legaly and very well done by zoos , wich can provide to the animals the better possible conditions of life thanks to people who have done long studies for that . @joplincrazy salamanders eat moving food as simple as that so u either have to use tweezers and feed them like in the vid and shake the tweesers a little bit so it will appear alive or breed/buy ur food for the slamander

I was cleaning out the basement window well today, the tenants before us left a lot of trash in there, and I found a tiger salamander. I don't know if the previous tenants left it out there, or if it was wild and fell in the well. If they left it there, it has been surviving on it's own pretty well for almost a year, including a Colorado winter.

@kirsty6999 They can do, - this is generally achieved by introducing iodine into their system, but I believe it can also be done by gradually reducing the water in their tank (but the lattter method will probably kill them in the process).

Either way, I'd be inclined to keep them in their larval state, the way mother nature intended them to be.

if you feed it with your hands it will associate that with being fed. if you then try and go close to it it will think it's being fed and bite you.

I have a salamander, he is eleven years. I got him from a 12 year old girl that lived next door. She got him from the bait shop across the street for 75 cents. He is very, very friendly. He eats nightcrawlers most of the time, but in the summer I take him outside and catch him young grasshopppers. When he is inside he likes to be under his half log house. But if I come into the room, he always comes out and starts bobbing his head to ask to be fed!

Sadly for the last 4 days her tongue and cheeks and neck seem puffy and hard . She isnt walking around and not eating. She fights me when i pick her up. When i put her in bowl she gulps water. I think she is just old and dieing but any1 got any ideas? Hibernating?
