it seems like the narator was just making things up during the transformation bit, not only did the heros that always wear fur not make any sense, but you could tell that the narator knew it sounded bad from his chuckling.

Wow, I just watched the original japanese version of this (something I didn't even know existed) episode, and it's clear that the tone is very different, but the story varies as well... for, in the japanese version, we didn't even know that the ninja crows were behind all this until the 2nd time we see the dragon attack, and THEY didn't know until moments before they took down the dragon. Truely, the only similarity is the animation, but even that was edited to better lip-sync with the voices.

The people who had to do the dubs never got the translation, so they just came up with something themselves. I think they came pretty close without actually knowing what the hell was going on.
