I love this video!!! My son has been in Missoula for over two years!!! He was supposed to go for a 6 month internship with his church. He loved it so much he decided to stay and get his bachelors degree at UM!! Thanks for a great song and pictures!! i hope to go to Missoula this year!!
Lived in Missoula 13 out of the 20 years i've been alive. I am getting ready to move to Arizona because I am sick of the winter here. After hearing this song I am going to miss it.
@filoIII It depends on what you consider mild. Missoula's winter lasts about 7-8 months out of the year. This year we had a very long and cold winter with lots of precipitation which makes you really appreciate the Sun when it does appear. Best time of the year to be in Missoula is spring IMO.
@minivan442 The way I understand it, the first snows are around Oct 31. What are the avg highs/lows in the dead of winter? Jan & Feb? I was under the impression the mountains block much of the extreme arctic air in western montana. I was just up there last week and enjoyed it.
@filoIII Mountains do not block weather patterns at all its a very common misconception. The only thing mountains have an effect on in regards to the weather is air pressures. Average highs and lows in Jan & Feb are 15/30 degrees. The record low in Missoula during Jan is -36 degrees which I believe was in 1996 and in 2004 I remember it got down to -32 for a few days. This year (2011) we had sub zero temperatures for a few weeks getting as low as about -5. Along with lots of snow.

I am not really a jewel fan but i stumbled upon this video and I too must say how much i love and now miss missoula. after living there 5 years leaving seemed like the logical thing to do when i finished school. but now i am kicking myself for having done so... cant wait to get back to montana

Love this song. I moved to Missoula when I was 19 then had to move to Philadelphia for a few years. I plan to get back to the zoo very soon and bring my new dog Montana home with me. This song just made me forget all about my horrible week that I've had at work with my terrible coworkers. Can't wait to get back there again, and when I do, I'm never leaving again.
@Montanathepug I live about an hour and a half from Philly now but lived in Missoula for 8 years ('97-'05). I miss it everyday. Thats great you get to go back and even cooler now that you know never to leave again. I LOVED Pint Night @ the Rhino!

Its a very unique place that is filled with very real people that choose to be friendly, outgoing, & accepting. Although the mountains, rivers, lakes, sunsets (i could go on & on) are mouth-dropping beautiful, the people & attitude are magical.
Well ! I really don't know what to say! The video was Great ! And so was the melodey of the song. But , the singer Jewels (Never heard of her before) left a little bit to be desired. I guess if she hadn't had a mouth of Fecal Matter, and I could have heard the Lyrics more clearly, the overall song may have been Great also! Maybe if the lyrics in text had been posted at the bottom of the screen, I could have followed the Bouncing Ball!
It's so nice to see so many devout Missoulians! I helped create the video with the pics Emilie sent me. What a beautiful town! I didn't know anything about Missoula going into our little project, but now I want to go there for a visit. And the song by Jewel is great too I think for basically creating it on the spot a few hrs. before the show.
Have never been a big fan of Jewel's but this song is quite good and evoked nice, happy memories of Missoula, my home town! Sounds like the Missoulians at her performance loved it! I live in NC, but I lived in Missoula for a short time (maybe 6 months), and lived in Plains, MT for around 10 years. Exciting to see the "M" hill again, climbed it several times. Big Sky all the way!
During her last tour in June, Jewel wrote a song for each city she was playing in. That song is pretty good, considering she wrote it a few hours before the show and performed it only once ;)

Love this song. I moved to Missoula when I was 19 then had to move to Philadelphia for a few years. I plan to get back to the zoo very soon and bring my new dog Montana home with me. I still remember a Saturday Nite Live cartoon sequence where Jewel was playing out in Nature and all the animals aronud her started to get sick...
then Joni Mitchell burst thru the screen and the animals got up and started dancing.
That's exactly how I feel about Jewel.
We are DEVO, for sure. Jewel and her chipmunk sounding little girl delivery and brain dead music are such a step down.
Bob Dylan would never make it now if he came along in this era. Fluff rules now.
