I wonder why people keep on comparing them. I think they're really different actually, and I love both bands a lot. Alex and Luke have both great voices and they both write amazing songs. Why do you always have to compare them?
Try to compare "junk of the heart" with "suck it and see". If you listen, the guitars of the kooks are much complicated than the AM. I like both but I think THE KOOKS are better, that's my opinion.
Each one are great in their own way. You can't compare them. The Kooks are more melodic, wich doesn't mean that they're worse. In fact, they aren't. They're just different.

Kooks are cool in how they brought back certain traits from classic rock like the electric guitar fill ins between lyrics but they seem a little more superficial. Maybe it's because they're more poppy than the Arctic Monkeys but they still seem kind of superficial. I also think A.C's singer's accent works better. I get annoyed by the other singer. Arctic Monkey's are also way more creative with their music. I prefer bands that can play many different genres.

I love both bands, they are all awesome, different sounds, not better or worse just different, but Ithink I prefer AM, because of the kind of person I am
I respect anyone else's opinion, as mine is based on my criteria which includes originality, skill, and overall greatness of sound. If you think The Kooks are have better musicianship and are better artists, by all means try and refute me, but evidence and examples are necessary.
I LOVE THE KOOKS and love singing their songs. I just think the Arctic Monkeys is a greater band worthy of international respect and recognition, and SHOULD be considered for one of the 'greats' of our generation.

they are very different the kooks are one of my favorite bands but they rarely sing a song that doesnt sound as if hes bleeding his heart out to a girl the arctic monkeys have such a great sound and the direction the two bands are taking are very different paths the kooks still diggin them upbeat and easy to listen to music and the arctic monkeys atleast for now have that almost jim morrison doors vibe goin its amazing and i cant get enough

People used to compare this two bands, because, altought they sounds different, Alex turner ( arctic monkeys) and Luke Pritchard ( the kooks) have some problems long time ago
that was something like alex tried to pull the leads out of luke´s guitar pedals while they were on stage, so luke kicked him in the face? i´ve heard about it and i find it very childish...
luke said in an interview that alex was at his show in the crowd & pulled out the guitar lead, then luke tryed to kinda kick him away! aparently alex was off his face he said.

The Kooks' debut is amazing.. but the Arctic's debut is phenomenal. AM wins easily.. they sound pretty unique whereas The Kooks has so many similar sounding bands like... Pigeon Detectives or Razorlite or One Night Only (which all btw, gargles balls). Favourite Worst Nightmare is an immense follow-up and a change of direction and Humbug is really unique and shows that they're not a one trick pony and have a very varied sound (albeit not the best of the three). Konk is err.. mediocre at best.
Better vocallist, Outstanding lyrics, quality guitar playing, great bass playing, pretty amazing drumming. Arctic Monkeys headline Glasto and continue to evolve as a band... The Kooks on the other hand, just don't compare to be honest... I don't see The Kooks winning a Mercury Prize for an album. Not that i don't like them personally, i just think Arctic Monkeys are a country mile better than them.

It's like comparing the Beatles to the Jonas Brothers. Arctic Monkeys, of course. The only appeal of the Kooks is that they can write catchy poppy stuff that's featured in television commercials and such, while Arctic Monkeys write stuff that's actually meaningful.
clearly isnt, theyre both amazing bands, kooks have a better lead guitarist, no doubt about it, but arctics have a better drummer. theyre both good bands, thats why people debate whos better. ive only seen the kooks live though and they were absolutely amazing. the style of both are great and they both have amazing lead singers and both bands have songs that people remember and like, so dont compare them to jonas brothers, its more like the beatles and rolling stones

The Kooks' debut is amazing.. but the Arctic's debut is phenomenal. AM wins easily.. they sound pretty unique whereas The Kooks has so many similar sounding bands like... Pigeon Detectives or Razorlite or One Night Only (which all btw, gargles balls). Favourite Worst Nightmare is an immense follow-up and a change of direction and Humbug is really unique and shows that they're not a one trick pony and have a very varied sound (albeit not the best of the three). Konk is err.. mediocre at best.

Arctic Monkeys are miles in front of The Kooks.
Better vocallist, Outstanding lyrics, quality guitar playing, great bass playing, pretty amazing drumming. Arctic Monkeys headline Glasto and continue to evolve as a band... The Kooks on the other hand, just don't compare to be honest... I don't see The Kooks winning a Mercury Prize for an album. Not that i don't like them personally, i just think Arctic Monkeys are a country mile better than them.

no way I can decide....AM and The Kooks are my two favorite bands...I really can't compare them...Alex and Luke have way too different voices (and they both sing beautifly),they make different music and they sing about different stuff...I prefer Alex's writing,but on the other side I think that Hugh is better guitarist than Jamie...maybe I could decide if I've heard The Kooks live,cause I heard AM live and they are just BRILLIANT!!! Don't know...they are just two amazing bands!

Its hard to compare them really i mean they're both rly good i mean alex turner is a genius his lyrics are amazing lol and they create catchy riffs n songs tht when u hear u think r yea this is a tune lol but the same with the kooks rly i mean okay there lyrics arent as meaningful as the arctic monkey's but again they come up with really catchy poppy riff's n stuff which just get stuck in ure head lol so its hard to say tbh i did prefer the kooks but now i think the arctic monkeys have my vote

Arctic Monkeys of course. They've been my favorite way longer. and now that Mardy Bum is playing while I'm typing this, I have to say Arctic Monkeys. lol
but I've been listening to The Kooks lately.. and yes they're good, but they honestly just don't compare.

It's like comparing the Beatles to the Jonas Brothers. Arctic Monkeys, of course. The only appeal of the Kooks is that they can write catchy poppy stuff that's featured in television commercials and such, while Arctic Monkeys write stuff that's actually meaningful.

clearly isnt, theyre both amazing bands, kooks have a better lead guitarist, no doubt about it, but arctics have a better drummer. theyre both good bands, thats why people debate whos better. ive only seen the kooks live though and they were absolutely amazing. the style of both are great and they both have amazing lead singers and both bands have songs that people remember and like, so dont compare them to jonas brothers, its more like the beatles and rolling stones
