Don't know what you mean by "The Real Blue Meanies" These guys have been around forever. Even signed to Thick Records and did a bunch of major touring. If you "real" blue meanies were around first, they should sue them for the name. If not you should shut your trap.
Awesome stuff! Saw Blue Meanies play in Brisbane supporting Frenzal Rhomb about 10 years ago and had a giggle because they looked like a bunch of accountants - two songs in I was hooked and have been a massive fan ever since. Pity they're no longer, but one of my top 10 bands (still got my CD signed by Bob the drummer pledging to come back to Oz with Civ or Voodoo Glowskulls) - LeroyRockboy (Brisbane, Australia).
The guitar player here fronts Tubring. They have a similar sound, I found out when I caught Tubring on tour and remarked they reminded me of the Meanies:)
I think the only band around that still comes close is The World Inferno Friendship Society. Sure miss shows with The Meanies, I really miss watching the reactions of folks seeing them for the first time:)
i had the honor of seeing them perform at last year's Riot Fest. they were the BEST band there! amazing set! i went all the way from Boston to Chicago to see the 06 reuinion of one of the 3rd wave's best!
Me and Mike helped get the Blue Meanies going further in Chicago. Still got some of their old tapes when Jim Cooley and Jay played with them. Awesome creativity and great fun. Respect by Aretha Franklin (cover), American Super Hero, all great songs they made and covered. Bill is such a great guy. They are missed much.
The Blue Meanies still hold my record of "The band ive seen the most" w/ 23 live shows. Their old guitar player, Mike, was from my hometown...think he was on my dad's flag football team actually. A shame they are no longer together...the best show i saw them do was at Hanger 9 in C-dale...complete skankin genius.
This band has gone through a few lineup changes but EVERYTIME I saw them they absolutely RIPPED! They came to Indy one time and played so fast and so loud I just don't think the crowd actually got it. My advice? Grab what you can from them but you must own a copy of "Full Throttle".
I saw Blue Meanies in Melbourne, Australia during the 90s. I'd been listening to their CD and then finally got to see them live, I couldn't believe how tight they were live! Definitely never got the recognition they deserved...
This is the first time I've ever seen any video of this band, and I have been a fan for a few years (I didn't really get into them until after they split).
Their reunion show in December 2004 was probably the best show I've ever seen. I talked to Billy Spunke via AIM about a year ago and he said there's a DVD of it coming out but he didn't give a time frame.
You should contact them and see if they want this footage, because it's really good.
I always offered to send them copies, they were great to let me record, they've broken up though. I shot footage of Flogging Molly at this same show and they're using some of the same footage on a DVD coming out in June. The World Inferno also played this show and that footage is up too. Thanks for the kind words. They were a great band, don't think they ever got the proper recognition they deserved sales wise.
I saw them perform in Madison WI back in 94

The keyboard player's Chas. I know he sung and played guitar in Bitchy, think he's working in a music shop now.
Had the pleasure and priviledge of playing with Blue Meanies many times - some of the best times of my life.
