the way i saw the finals where this "build" originated. fantasy decided to go for some valkyries because jaedong was silly and wasted his hydras on the front. then there was a window to go for this. against an all in straight to muta its pretty clear this fails.

the current Zerg builds, which include at least 3 hatcheries. so the Zergs have transitioned back into Jaedong's classic 2 hatch mutas and now it's time for the Terrans to adapt again. Flash failed at adapting hence failed at this match!

Is the half depot really worth it?  The spare change you lose in the process aside, investing those minerals that early in the game in essentially nothing delays tech a little. Could that be part of why Flash wasn't ready by that 20 or so seconds?

your timings are off this wasn't 'standard' luxury went for a very (30 secs or so) early timing attack by getting his pool AND gas before second hatch at 12-11 respectively

Yellow's build was 12 pool, gas, hatch; instead of 12 hatch, pool, gas. That gave him mutalisks 30 seconds earlier then the more standard muta timing. That's what killed flash. If Yellow's muta were 30 seconds later, flash would have some goliaths, one valk and some more turrets to fight the mutas off.

at least someone else saw that i was almost screaming at my monitor when nuke said 'flash has nothing to defend himself' BECAUSE yarnc played very smart and went for a off-timed build

this is how weaker players beat better players sometimes (as idra would say) going for builds that aren't easily countered by standard timing

Considering Yellow has the best ZvT (at least % wise, even over Jaedong) I don't know if Yellow is that much of a "weaker" player at least in this match up.

I think if any gamer had a choice though... they'd chose to play yellow 10 times out of 10 over playing Jaedong. Build order loss though i think... has Fantasy build ever won against 2 hatch muta? and is this really the fantasy build? thought you needed vult drops for that

Probably but that's not what I'm saying. I just mean that vT Yellow isn't exactly a "weaker" player. Yellow is more then able to face any terran on equal footing, he doesn't need to pull off some special build to make up for his short comings as the post I replied to was implying.

i wasn't implying that at all. i was making the point that pro players have certain timings down in their heads and throwing in a little idra bashing because this is an excuse he uses sometimes when he loses to people he thinks are beneath him

Lol thx for the shoutout - called this match ^^ except for the 14cc part. Was hoping that the game would have been more close, though...

It's interesting to note that yarnc actually went for a 12 pool 11 gas - a build you would almost never see in ZvT, but is very common in ZvZ (and he morphed his lair the moment his pool finished, which someone noted below). Still, Flash saw the spire timing, so he should have been better prepared :(

Anyway... As someone pointed out in Jon747's video of the same game, Yellow pretty much skipped lings and instead got a really quick lair. That might be why Flash wasn't ready at all.

On another note though, I don't really understand why the mech build is so popular. I see it fail more often than I see it succeed, I think Zergs have figured it out pretty well.

Flash has been doing marine gol lately in pro-league and has been destroying zerg, he tried switching it up for some reason and got caught when yellow went for a superfast lair
