I don't think you could say it uses the same engine. That would be weird. I've messed with Soup about 5 years ago, you can actually change the picture files and customize it.

the fist looking G that looks like a 6 pointed cube is the emblem of Gouji Rokkaku, the main enemy in both jsr games was always either Goji or Gouji.
