  • The Cavaille-Coll @ ND may sound like crap, but it's way better crap than most of what you hear today.

Funny how organ builders & technicians had the audacity to think they could improve upon a Cavaille Coll,

yet no-one, to this day can re-create, exactly, his sound.

  • I can't comment on the sound of the ND organ today. But the 'usability' has no doubt improved. Even with today's crescendo and combinations broken, you can still play the way you would with the C-C mechanical console (as long as the couplers and stop controls still work). But try playing a Latry-style improvisation on that. Either you need to keep it less rich to have a hand free to change stops or you need to rehearse with someone to pull the stops for you (not much of an impro...).

  • I am sorry to say this after working on over 20 pipe organs in my life Cavaillé-Coll made there instruments so they would never half to be restored if they just left it alone it would of never had to have been worked on. Look and St.Sulpice it still has its original console and it will always have it. There's a quote "if its not broke don't fix it. Unfortunately they have completely destroyed the original sound of this wonderful pipe organ today it sounds like crap.

  • Can you tell me what's the theme of this improvisation? Is is a french hymn? is this an entree ?

  • Il est Excellent l'Assistant du Maestro!!!! il faut le faire qqd même registrer sur une Impro de cette dimension!!!

  • This improvisation is pretty frightening:-)

  • The guy who pulled the stops excelled in this job. I read in the booklet of a CD that since 1983 the setzer didn't work at all. It's so interesting to look into what really happened at those times at the console. Devernay was simlpy inbeliavebly virtuos, and improstiator.

  • The were the CHAMADES !!! Much betetr than today's :-)))

  • You think so? They had a better bite to them

  • I heard that the organ was in so bad condition that the stops didn't work.

  • The organ was in terrible shape

  • Incredible ! Who is his assistant ?

  • I think its Jean Frohlich...
