  • hello

  • Hey sorry to hear your udu broke, but unfortunately it does happen often with the ceramic udu's.

May i suggest if you still want to purchase another udu that you take a look at Meinl's line of fiberglass udu's. they have just as much tone and sound, if not more and they are nearly shatter proof.

I have the Meinl Liquid IBO drum and i love it, take a look at there website and how they sound hear on youtube you might like them....good luck.

  • ahhh yikes. that sucks i thought you slaped it for so long that it just broke into pieces. well im pretty sure it wasn't fun cleaning up.

Idk but what im thinking is the Design they put in the Udu and how big it is.

and pottery class is fun lol i tend to do a lot of side projects. like some ocarinas i made, and other useful stuff.

  • Wow.. Im not in expert in Udus and what gives them there high price but hey im lucky I was able to do a Udu for free in my pottery class.

Sounds pretty good ill probably make a video when its fired.

  • @acidfriend47 Please do so! I'd like to hear what it sounds like.

b.t.w. the schlagwerk udu I played on on this video fell down from on top of a piano (while I was playing) and needless to say broke to bits. Haven't gotten one since. And don't know if I'll be joining a pottery class anytime soon. would be fun I suppose...

  • @polytunal

Lol im not sure if i told you but I did the Udu video a long time ago I dont remember if i told you about it.

Its not that great because my dumb ass didn't realize that the skinnier I make the Udu the better sound I get lol XD but ehh I tried it and Im happy cause it can be played and it looks nice in my opinion.

I'll probably do another udu, do you have any suggestions on how i can make it good. Maybe some tips on how the Schlagwerk udu is and the one i have.

  • is this udu made in ceramic or in clay like the original ones from Nigeria?

  • Where do you get an udu drum and how much do they run?

  • try to ply sum oriental rhythms on it. it work well

  • Well I destroyed my Udu not so long after I made this vid. I had it on top of the piano and played for like 40 minutes, suddenly it came flying towards me, hit the grounds and wooosh. lots of little pieces of Udu. I'll have to get another soon.

    Thanks for the encouragement.

  • Bummer! Those Schlagwerk ones are pretty expensive too. I've been scouring Youtube for udus to try to decide which one to get. This one sounds ok but nothing special given its price. Initially I disregarded the Meinl fibreglass ones but I've seen a vid of one on here and it sounds pretty good and has the great advantage of being unbreakable! So it's a toss-up between that and one of the LP models so far.

  • @polytunal Sucks.... Mine was broken by airport security checkers not placing things back into the bag the way they were found. I had it wrapped in bubble wrap + inside of the neck then placed it in a thickly padded cymbal case inside by suitcase with all of my winter clothes around it. Made it from Japan to D.C. no problem ( I checked it ). D.C. to Florida... It is just one section at the top of the neck so I might be in luck if I can figure the right glue or epoxy to use.

  • For being on the steep part of the learning curve your playing sure sounds excellent. Would love to see more videos!
