@jackonue for me Southpaw is my favourite moz album, i know most would disagree for various reasons but thats coming from a hardcore Smiths fan, i prefer southpaw because it means more to me musically as well

Have to disagree. This is one of my fav moz songs from one of my fav moz albums. Love the extended instrumental passages. Happy that he let his band jam out for once.

If extended instrumentals are self-indulgent, then I suppose lots of artists from Mozart to Miles are wankers.

Arguably, writing lyrics about the same personal themes is the real self-indulgence (thought moz does this better than anyone).

Agreed. "Compensated" for rushing out an album two songs short by making three of the songs 3 or 4 minutes longer than they needed to be in order to pad the album out. Shame.
