FYI, Erma Franklin first recorded this song. Janis did the cover. Janis covered many wonderful blues artists from the early days. "Tell Mama" was originally Etta James' song. "Ball and Chain" belonged to Big Mama Thornton, who incidently was the first to record "Hound Dog" before Elvis. "Piece of My Heart" has been recorded & covered by everyone from Mary J. Blige to Melissa Etheridge and no one does it like Janis. I like Faith Hill, but she isn't gritty enough to do the song justice. Peace.
